'Welcome.'
The man leisurely turned around. Two guards beside him stood motionlessly. It was as if Vanessa was invisible to them. Watson carefully looked at them, waiting for something to happen.
'Is Alex not coming?'
'I locked him up in jail. He won't be coming.'
Vanessa carefully searched for any signs of a trap. She was sure there was one but couldn't find where it was.
'That's too bad. I worked hard to arrange all of this for him. I'm disappointed.'
Watson didn't bat an eye being at gunpoint.
'Don't worry. I'll let you meet him in jail. Don't resist if you want to live.'
'Live?'
Watson hated being threatened. Seeing Alex was not there, he lost interest.
'Do you think you've won? You think you have complete control?'
Watson spoke loudly and arrogantly. He felt he needed to educate the child. He stood from his seat.
'Don't move.'
Vanessa shot a bullet in his calf. The guards still showed no response.
'That was a warning. The second one will go through your stomach.'
'Had Alex been with you, you might not have failed.'
Watson coldly replied.
--Failed? What is he talking about?
Vanessa was getting anxious. She kept thinking about what was wrong. Everything was going smoothly, but there was a problem. What was it? She then got her answer.
'COMMANDER! COME IN!'
The sound was deafening as a man screamed through his communication device.
'What is it Soldier# 07?'
Vanessa promptly replied.
'It's terrible. We have been trick-AAahhh.'
'All soldiers have been eliminated.'
A second voice took over the man. It was a voice she had heard recently, but not in this manner. It was the same voice as the terrified man who groveled before her. He was standing along with his 12 comrades, holding the soldier's ear he ruthlessly chopped off.
'Just wanted to let you know that all your men are dead. I'm coming upstairs to kill the rest of you.'
'Bastard! What did you do?'
Vanessa shot another bullet into Watson's thigh. Undisturbed by the pain, he showed his devilish smile. The civilians were actually specialized mercenaries in disguise.
'It's called confusing the enemy.'
Watson disappeared from her sight. He rapidly approached her, sank his fist into the soldier, and snapped the other one's neck. Such speed and precision were not humanly possible. Absolutely not possible when you got shot twice in the leg. He grabbed Vanessa by her throat and held her up against the wall.
Choking, she shot two more into his liver, but the grip wouldn't loosen up. Watson stared at his blood-filled wounds and smiled.
'We're entering a new era where such trivial injuries are equivalent to a splinter.'
Only one reason came to her mind; Watson had undergone the surgery and became a superhuman like Alex. She realized how unprepared she was, how naive she was.
'I know what you're thinking."If only Alex Was here.".'
Watson punched her in the stomach and forcefully hurled her on the floor.
'Tie her up.'
He ordered.
'Since you're here, maybe I'll launch the missiles. It's a bit early, but this is to show you my gratitude.'
At that moment, she admitted that she had failed. The guards tied her firmly with ropes. There was only one way left; to blow herself up. There were bombs planted in her suit that could easily destroy 2 floors.
All she had to do was move her feet in a specified pattern, and they would go off. It was the necessary procedure for a WS agent. Failure was not an option. Millions of lives are in their hands.
She never thought it would come to this but took full responsibility. She started the 5 step pattern. She didn't want to die as she forced her feet to move.
Flashbacks started appearing of her short-lived life. It wasn't a comfortable life, but one she was happy to have lived. Her feet kept moving. One by one, everyone took turns appearing before her, her father, sister, WS friends, and Jason. She moved her feet again.
If she had a last wish, it was that she would at least get a chance to apologize to him. She thought this was the end of her memories, but in the end, one more person came.
'Giving up this easily? Pathetic.'
It was someone who was an idiot and didn't know his place.
'Looks like I have to save your butt too. Hold up, I'm coming.'
She thought it was strange her will to not die took his form. She moved her feet for the fourth time. This was it, one more step, and it will all be over. Before she could complete the circuit, gunshots were heard. The fight was supposed to be over, who was firing now?
Naturally, Watson heard the noise. He turned on one of the 5 screens in the room.
'Marvellous!'
He exclaimed.
'Jason, you ready?'
'It is too late to ask that now.'
'Let's go.'
