Chapter 60 - Me a

Since Jason's father wasn't there, Uncle David offered Jason to spend the night in their house.

Jason and Vanessa both had royal blood coursing through their veins, but they were only distant relatives to the main family. As such, they were not known. Their family name is called "Bourne." This family had only existed for one reason. "To protect the royal family."

Being a WS agent can be considered as neglecting that purpose. WS agents can't partake in any situation other than that which could pose a global threat, but the Queen herself had offered the Bourne family to the WS.

A car pulled up to a mansion, which was almost a 10-minute drive from Head Quarters. There were about 50 rooms in the villa. Its own swimming pool, garden, library, 2 dining halls, a place which was turned into a gym to exercise, and a classical dojo to practice martial arts.

Agent David, Jason, and Vanessa and Alex exited the vehicle and entered said mansion.

The mansion wasn't vast but nonetheless was lavish. Maids and servants were everywhere and continuously greeted, to which Jason politely replied back.

Tea was being prepared as Vanessa gave a tour of the house to Alex. Jason was dragged along for no reason. He wanted to go to his room, and that wish was about to be granted.

'And here we have Jason's room, wanna see what's inside?'

'Please. You don't mind, Jason. Do you?'

'Can we do this tomorrow? My room might be a little messy.'

Jason was always sensitive about people prying into his room, mainly Vanessa.

'Come on, Jason. Your room is clean as ever.'

Vanessa casually opened the door taking Alex inside.

--I had locked the door before I left and took the only existing key with me.

Yet Jason's room was unlocked. But this did not surprise him. WS agents can pick your expensive security lock with nothing but a toothpick.

He knew Vanessa could pick the lock to his room even in her sleep. He was worried about what she had done inside.

He quickly went in to see his room was just as he remembered. A queen-sized bed where he slept alone, 3 large shelves all filled with books. Windows, which had a view of the garden. And a certain cupboard which Jason was happy to see was still locked.

The room was considerably large.

'And here's where Jason keeps his underwear.'

'I see.'

'Why are you showing him this?'

Vanessa looked incoherently at Jason.

'I'm only giving a tour.'

Alex paid great attention to the tour and gave a thumbs up to Jason after looking at his underwear as a sign of approval. Vanessa then looked at the cupboard and back at Jason. His eyes shouted, 'No,' and Vanessa smiled slyly.

'Want to know what's inside of that, Alex?'

'Sure.'

Jason ran to the cupboard and guarded it with an iron will.

'Get back, you savages!'

Just what was in there that Jason was so bent on keeping it hidden. Some dirty magazines? His Diary? What could it be? *Anything I want it to be.*

'Jason, don't make me force you.'

Vanessa cracked her knuckles.

'Just try it.'

Jason would not yield. His back leaned back to the cupboard to offer support. To his astonishment, it opened a little, and from there came a poster that slipped through the narrow gap.

The poster came from the bottom of the cupboard, slipped between Jason's legs, and finally landed on the ground after swaying back and forth in the air. Vanessa picked it up and gave it to Alex.

'Here, that cupboard is filled with these kinds of things.'

It was a Batman's poster signed by Christian Bale. Jason looked like someone had stepped upon his dignity and now had lost the will to live. *Come on, Jason. It could have been worse. Just be glad even Vanessa doesn't know about the stuff you keep in the ceiling's false space.*

Uncle David came to call them for dinner.

'Kids, dinner's ready.'

He looked at the pale Jason and the poster.

'Oh, is that the poster I got you for your birthday? This brings back memories,'

'Let's go, Alex. Shouldn't let the food wait.'

'Coming.'

Vanessa and Alex left the room with Uncle David. Jason was left all alone in his room.

It was past midnight, and everyone fell asleep, except Jason. For some reason, he couldn't sleep. After changing sides every 5 minutes, he went for a stroll.

He wandered the hallways like a ghost, continuously thinking about something. He went to the terrace to get some fresh air. The night was clear, and the canopy of stars pacified the heart. He found Uncle David there with a cigarette in his mouth, enjoying the night.

'Can't sleep, Jason?'

'I was just…..thinking about father.'

'Care to tell me about it?'

Like the kind uncle he was, he lent an ear to his troubled nephew. Jason took up his offer and rested his hands on the balcony, copying him.

'I came here to talk to father, but…. do you really think he will listen?'

'My brother….'

He puffed a smoke.

'Isn't the one who would make rash decisions. He has always been a calm and rational guy.'

He faced Jason.

'But he is also not one who would change his decision so easily. He can sometimes be cold.'

Jason didn't need to hear the last words. He knew better than anyone else how cold his father could be.

Ever since Jason could remember, it was his Uncle who played the role of a guardian in his life. It's not like his father was never there, but Jason failed to recall any pleasant memories he had with him. All he ever got were cold words and harsh treatment from him. Words to stop being an embarrassment.

He could never once remember his father smiling at him or being proud of him. Jason kept struggling to get his attention even for a moment. He worked hard, became faster, studied endlessly. He became the youngest WS agent in history, hoping that now his existence would be a sense of pride for his father.

His father was there, but instead of a warm smile, he only received these words as his present.

'Try not to throw mud on the Bourne's family legacy.'

Jason had an idea of how the conservation between his father will start and how it will end but hoped he was wrong.

"What does tomorrow hold, not a soul knows."
