The next day, it's the last day. An announcement sounds.
"Phase 4 of the hunter exam is now officially over. All remaining applicants please return to the starting point at once! You will be given 1 additional hour to make your way back. If you still haven't returned by the time that hour is up, you will fail the exam. Furthermore, exchanging badges at the starting point is prohibited. Any attempt to do so will result in immediate disqualification."
I quickly shake the others awake, they are still tired.
Esther: "Gon. I have a stupid idea, but since we're on a time crunch. We're kinda out of options. You carry Kurapika, I'll carry Leorio. Let's run to the start. What do you say?"
Gon: "That's fine by me. Let's go."
We run. And make it just in time for the lady in pink shoes and red pants to count applicants badges.
"Looks like 4 more has joined us. You're certainly cutting it close aren't ya?"
We thumps up to Killua, he's there. Wonder what he's been doing.
"So, these 10 applicants have passed the 4th phase of the hunters exam!"
10 applicants huh? What will the last phase be about? We board the hunter exams airship again. Why?! Leorio thanks us, well that's brave of him. And an announcement that the chairman wishes to speak with us one-on-one sounds. We are called up individually. When it's my turn, I enter a room. I see Mr. Raccoon sitting at the end. He asks me questions.
"Now then, why do you want to become a hunter?"
Esther: " To find someone. He's the key to me finding my home."
"Next question. Out of the other 9 applicants, which one are you keeping a close eye on?"
Esther: "Number 44, he's dangerous. But I gotta say, I like his style."
"Last question. Which of the other 9 applicants would you least want to fight?"
Esther: "That's easy. I don't want to fight number 44 as well."
"Alright, that's all."
After answering his questions, I exit the room. I walk around the airship before settling near a window. I rest on there as I write more in my notebook. So much has happened in our travels that I don't want to ever forget about this. I'ma tell mother all about this, she'll be so excited! I stare out the window, it's turning dusk. I close my notebook and start thinking.
When I get my hunters license, what should I do from then on? Should I leave the others and search for my home, or stay with them and only look when I have found that man. But how can I find someone I don't even know looks like besides from his eye color? And it's not like where I live seems to be on the maps. Where do I come from, why was I born different, and what do I do when I find it? Move on with my life? But this only task is what I live for. How can I leave it? Does it even exist?
Does it even exist…why did I think that? Of course it exists, I just have to find it. And when I find it, I'll tell mother to show me our 'home'. I nod at that idea and close my eyes. Time passes as I sleep, and we already arrive to the last phase of the exam. I get off the airship and throw up on the pavement. Mr. Raccoon says we should go inside, we do. After entering, he starts to speak.
"Well gentlemen, everyone rested up? Good. Now then, the hunter exam committee runs this hotel. So I want all of you to make yourselves at home until the battles have concluded. For the final phase of the hunter exam, you'll be competing in a one-on-one tournament."
Someone pulls out a board. Mr. Raccoon takes off the drape and shows us the board with the names covered still.
Leorio: "Hold on a second, so only the last person standing passes?"
"No. You only need one win to pass this phase. See it's the winners who will drop away and the losers who will advance to the next round. Which means, the person who finishes at the top will not pass. Makes sense to everyone?"
Esther: "So you're saying that only one person will fail the exam?"
"Exactly. Here is the branch we put together. "
Mr. Raccoon peels off the tape hiding the names. WHAT?!
