Ye Wudao was soon rescued by the crew on the cargo ship, and naturally, they had to ask him a few questions, such as how he ended up in the water and so on.
Ye Wudao made up an excuse and answered without missing a beat, claiming he was an adventure enthusiast who had been kayaking to an island for exploration when, unfortunately, his kayak began to deflate, and then he fell into the sea.
Such an excuse was common and not particularly suspicious, especially since Ye Wudao had been searched for weapons when he was rescued and was found to have only a dagger, which Ye Wudao claimed was for self-defense in case he encountered any sharks in the water.
The reason sounded reasonable enough, though it was quite extraordinary for someone to think of using a dagger against sharks. But then again, who doesn't do that? Having something for self-defense can add a bit of comfort, even though one knows it's useless.
