Chereads / The Little Bird / Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Khilahni awoke early the next morning. She would need to go into town today to lease a space on the main square where she could work. She had fallen in love with blowing glass back in college as part of an art course. She had always loved to make things, and it didnt matter to her which medium she used, at least until that class.

She hadn't used it since then until she had finally broke things off with her last ex. She didnt have the time. She was the bread winner in the relationship. While her ex always put himself down for not being as rich as he had wanted to be. He always talked about it but never really tried to push himself. Staying only in his comfort zone where he made enought to buy his beer, weed, video games, and new tattoos. He only ever paid for his own things, and even then there were times he needed help. Ann I'm sure it was hard for him when he spent most of his time drunk and high aying video games, watching sports or going out with his buddies.

Thinking back on it she couldn't understand why she ever decided to date either of her exes. they were cocky, selfish, extremely jelous, and she ended up putting in all the effort. Her last ex was the worst though. His jealousy knowing no bounds, she couldn't even spend time with her own sister or he would assume she was cheating. She couldn't even own any toys because it made him feel inadequate, yet wanted her to be kinky. But at the same time put zero effort into it. He simply spat on his hand,, rubbed it against her vaginal opening and went to town. He didn't sqeeze her butt, play with her breast, finger her, or even kiss her. It was so bad that she couldn't even stay wet, so only a few minutes in she would be in so much pain that she would pray he would finish just so she could soak in a bath to heal herself.

But the last straw came when she had awoken in the middle of the night as if something was wrong, only to find him standing in the corner of her room; a room they never shared; staring at her like he wanted to put an axe in her back. He gave no words, or explanations just walked out after a few moments and went back to his room. Completely taken aback she had smoke the last two cigarettes she had, and went to the store for more before she returned to ask him what the hell that had been about. Again he dismissed her as if she was being crazy, and it was at that moment Khilahni had had enough. As the house was in her name she simply told him that at an appropriate hour he needed to collect his things and go to his sister's.

She swore then that she would never make the same mistake again. This time she would wait in celibacy until the right man came along. Someone who would love her faults and quirks, her wild side, her insecurities, her humor. Someone that wouldn't cage her or change her, but somone would let her be herself and want to be there for every silly moment of it. So she had bought her toys and avoid men ever since. No one night stands, no flings, no chances to make the same mistake again. And for amlost three years now she'd kept her promise.

As Khilahni finished her breakfast she turned her mind back to the day ahead of her. She had put her showcase pieces in her rangler the night before, now all she had to do was convince the town comity to aprove of her opening a shop in town. "Okay cowgirl, this is it so knock'em dead." she whispered to herself as she put her vehicle in gear. And with that single thought, she backed out of her drive and started the senic dirt road treck to town.

Brodie leaned against the hood of his truck finishing his smoke before it was time to head in. A meeting had been called today about a new prospect for a store in town. He hated the meetings and quite frankly didn't understand the necessity for them. As long as the person could pay the lease it didn't matter to him.

The only reason he was able to have his own store and a place on this comity was because his family had lived here for generations. They owned almost one third of the town real estate, which was far more than any other man in the room. And he had to admit, it felt good that the other comity members had to essentially choke on him. They couldn't keep him from opening his store or from his rightful seat. But he never payed much attention to anyone who wanted to open a shop as long as the money was there, he always voted in favor. Which to his amusement only left an even more sour taste thier mouths. They were all pompous jelly rolls.

So as he took his seat at the table where all the other men had gathered, he knew he was about to have a very good day indeed. Because formalities aside the only spaces left available to rent were spaces he owened, giving him veto power if he saw fit. Sometimes he even took the loss just to see these pricks loose even more of what little hair they had left due to thier outrage. Brodie leaned back and closed his eyes, until the prospect arrived he had no intention of mingling with his fellow members.

Khilahni pulled into an open spot infornt of the town hall put her car in park, and headed in with her things. She could do this, she was gonna make it on her own come hell or high water, rain or shine. So she loaded her hard cases into a cart and went it. Her meeting was in conference room 2, and when she came to it she took one deep breathe and opened the door.

Khilahni entered the room with her eyes down concentrating on setting a few of her best cased pieces on the table as she gretted the room. "Goodmornin y'all. My name is Khilahni Johnson and it's a pleasure. I wanna start off by thankin ya for takin the time out of all yer morningsto see me." she said, her weat Texas accent bleeding through heavily. Right as she'd been about to start her presentation before the men could kick her back out on her behind she froze. Sitting directly acroos from her with his shades on and leaning back like a king was the very man who had riled her yesterday at Den's. Inwardly she groaned and asked God why this man was here of all places, but she pulled herself back together as quickly as possible and tried to talk as if it hadnt effected her.

"I would just like to start of by sayin how much I've come to love this qute little town and it's residence in the short time since I've arrived. Mrs. Grueene is just the most lovely person I've ever met, and Nate and June are just the sweetest children. I would like show you all my work. Something I hope many will fall in love with." she said opening each of the first three cases carefully and handing them to the gentleman so they could examine them as she continued her pitch.

Brodies ears perked up hearing the mention of his kids and opened his eyes to see who was talking about them. A smile crossed his face then vanished so quickly that even if someone had it it, they would be positive they actually had. Seeing the litlle bird in front of him trying her best to win these idiots over made him silently chuckle. Anyone with actually eyes wouldnt miss how she would keep readjusting her glasses, or how she just barely pick at the edge of one of her cases. She was nervous and frazzled, and it was cute. But more importantly the scene he witnessed last night came back in full color and vividness making his cock strain agaisnt his jeans. This was it. This was how he was going to train his little bird. Because she would be leasing from him, that ment they would be seeing each other very often. Before the items had come to him he closed his eyes again and feigned sleep. A felt a nudge each time an item was being passed before they skipped him and continued to the next.

"Im sure most of you recognize what the pieces you've held look like, and these are just a few. In your hands' are a 1962 Shelby Cobra CSX 8000 Roadster, a 1929 Packard 640 Super Eight Phaeton, a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda, a 1967 Shelby GT 500 mustang, and a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. All of these are made of 100% glass. The hood opens to show what is usually inside down to the fan belts. All the doors open including the trucks and gas caps. You will also see here infront of me are recreations of old ships, animals, and even sea creatures. This gentleman is what I would like to bring to this town." she said with seriousness and sincerity. Her eyes scanned the room but she got no read on what these men were thinking. Hell even mister cool hadn't bothered to open his eyes through a single moment of her presentation. But she knew he was awake. She had seen his ribs jerk beneath his t-shirt earlier as if he might have been laughing.

Once the men had finished inspecting and looking over they all looked at each other giving a silent nod. Then one began to speak "Mrs. Johnson was it? I commend you on your craftmanship some of your items are indeed fine work, however we just don't see how a shop selling these items in our town will help this community. The people here are simple and don't have money to waste on these delicate trinkets. They need things like food, clothes, toiletries, and gas. I'm sorry but.." he was saying matter of factly before he was cut off.

"Congratulations Khilahni you've got your space." Brodie interjected as he stood and walked towards the door. "Now listen here! we cannot just go saying yes without thinking about how this will look on our community!" she same plump man boomed. "Wait please, it may be true that there aren't alot of local folk who might be interested in these things but most of my sales are based online. And I'd rather be able to keep them on display for people to see and enjoy trather than keep them in a storage unit where they could get damaged." Khilahni started to plead before Brodie had put his hand up as if to stop her.

"Its done. You have your space. Come by My place later and we will decuss it in further detail. I believe you've seen it, just look for the shop with the sign that says Den's above it." he said then opened the door and walked out. She quickly stepped out of the conference room. "Hey you! I don't understand what do you mean I have my shop, all the other meen seemed pretty adamant that they weren't going to allow it." she asked calling out to him. He half turned with a smile towards her and said with a serious tone "Because I said so." And with that he was out the door.

Flummoxed Khilahni walked back into the room and began to gather her things quickly. The disapproving faces staring down at her made her more than uncomfortable and eager to get out. She loaded her things into the cart and meekly said goodbye and headed to her car. She sat in her drivers seat and reeeled over what had just takin place. What just happened.

First the guy pretends to sleep through my presentation seemingly uninterested, then when it looked like she would be turned down after all he just goes and decides she's got her space. Who does he think he is? They had to vote didn't they? Thats what it had said in the email she'd received with the details of the meeting. So how did he think that he could just decide that? And why was she so upset? She got what she came here for didn't she? But, something told her this was not going to be so simple. Something was off, she just didn't know what.
