Chapter 99 - The Green mist mountains

Barda was rather impressed by the advancements made in the airship designs and development. All he had done was come up with a concept, the rest he had left to the able shipmasters of Tristan who worked in close collaboration with the crew that made the capsules and attach them to the ships.

In a matter of weeks, the ships did not even need magic to be steered. The same concepts used to sail across the seas were now being used to sail over land. The winds were not as reliable but they still served their purpose.

Barda appreciated the view of the lush greenery of the forest as he few towards the Green Mist Mountains. Everyone was looking over the deck as they sailed. It was an awesome experience.

"Don't get me wrong, I love the new look ...." Lady Maara commented as she regarded Barda. After he had learned that he had aging modules, he had to explore what they presented. Luckily, they would only simulate age, not the weaknesses that came with it.

The software was adapted to simulate the most common aging parameters. He was set to begin his life at the peak of his youth, as a 20-year-old. At first, Barda had worried about aging too fast, but with Lord Abu, he realized he could extend his lifespan to be more than 500 without much concern.

Another factor Barda found was that he could grow a beard, and that was what he had now. It had started as a stumble, but every day he simulated some growth while acting too busy to shave it. Over time, Barda found he had a bush on his face.

"... but?" Barda asked.

"Are you sure that is how you want to appear before the mages?"

"Is this your way of commanding me to shave, your royal highness?"

"You are free to think of it as a command if it makes it easier," The Queen said. Barda lamented how forceful this woman had become as he went below deck. Just as he was about to go below, he heard gasps.

"Is that it?"

"It's so beautiful!"

"Look, the walls are glowing!"

"That's not even it, look at the city. It looks as if it is enshrouded in green mist, as the name suggests,"

Looking at the city himself, Barda was also impressed by the magnificence of the city. The green mist also seemed to glow or was luminous in some way.

What impressed Barda the most about the city was the amount of magical energy coming from the city. It looked to Barda as though it was a hub, with magical circuits and arrays running all over. Even he was afraid of doing anything rush in this place.

Drawing closer, mages riding on pegasi approached them and guided them into the city, where they found a procession waiting for them. Moreover, many residents of the city had gathered. When the ships crossed the city walls, the mages began chanting:

"Love Live The Queen!"

"Love Live The Queen!"

Lady Maara had a bright smile on her face as she waved at her new subjects.

For the journey, the Queen took 11 ships. Barda was in charge of security, and he had the 10 ships surround the main ship in an octagon formation. His ship was in the lead as usual. In case of anything, he would bear the brunt of the attack.

"This weapon is splendid!" Lord Abu weighed the gun in his hand. Among the many gifts that he had been given, this was the one that caught his eye.

Mages were generally not impressed by plain inventions that did not have any magic, but Barda's invention could not be termed as plain.

Barda had specially made 3 guns for him, each made with gold as its main material. He had made a golden desert eagle, a Kalashnikov and a light 50. They looked magnificent in the pile. The Arch-Mage requested a demonstration. Barda did not do the demonstration himself, of course, he was too senior for that sort of thing.

The loud bang of the Desert eagle stunned many, as well as its destructive power. Next up, the report of the rifle and the rapid-fire was compelling, but what took the day was the long distant accurate shot from more than 1.5km away.

On their part, the mages demonstrated long distant shooting from more than a mile away while riding on their pegasi. There were fantastical demonstrations of magic that served as entertainment.

"Her name is Morningstar, she is the finest among the many I have bred. Her grace and magnificence have no equal. She is a fitting mount for a Queen," The big-busted woman sais as she brought forward the magnificent white pegasus.

Looking at it up close, Lady Maara realized that it was bigger than a normal horse, The wings were leathery and looked extremely tough, and whenever the beast moved them s slight gale would form.

"She is so beautiful," Lady Maara said as she drew near the pegasus. Interestingly, the beast recognized her as the master and bowed before her. She then went down on her knees to allow the Queen to climb on top.

"Your Majesty, you need to go for a ride for her to recognize you and your commands."

"Wait, I don't know how to ride a pegasus," The Queen protested as the beast started running.

"To fully ride a pegasus, you need to learn the commands to use. Once a bond is formed, the beast will follow you for life, and only you will be its sole rider."

The Queen did not catch most of that since she was already airborne, but she had already been told that.

"Next, My Lord Barda. As the Lord Commander of Tristan Armies, you need a reliable partner to see you through many battles. Meet Firestorm, born in the family of fire mages, the stallion's firepower and strength is unmatched,"

As she spoke, a powerful-black pegasus was brought forward. Barda admired the beast and its appearance. Its wings were already spread as it approached Barda. As with the Queen, the beast bowed but did not kneel.

"He is a warrior pegasus, he does not kneel," The woman explained. Barda approached the beast and climbed it, and before he knew it, they were airborne.

Barda found that he had to wrestle control with the pegasus. The problem was that the beast did not have reigns or a saddle.

***

"How was your first flight on a pegasus?" Lord Carwin asked.

"Eventful," Barda answered, He was putting a saddle and bridle on the Firestorm, his new ride.

"The pegasi are trained to handle these saddles, and given they are magic, they should offer you better protection." This time, Barda wanted to ride the pegasus the proper way. He found that with a bridle and a saddle, maneuvering was much easier.

The pegasus was not the only gift Barda received from the order. Since he had expressed interest, Lady Arnea organized a trip to the largest library in the order. Barda claimed the only wanted to explore and admire the library.

The request did not seem too ridiculous. Since Barda had shown he was a brainiac, asking to go see the library was not far fetched. A knowing smile crossed Barda's smile for a brief moment before he restored his composure.

Time for a another information heist.

"How are you guys enjoying your stay?" Barda asked Batoo as he got back from his ride.

"Well, we haven't received magical beasts or taken special tours in case you were wondering," Karla remarked off-handedly.

"I thought you guys always wanted to come to Green mist?" Barda protested.

"We can't all be god," Batoo said, supporting Barda.

"I have to say, I love the creations the mages have created, very beautiful work," Kia answered.

"Perfect answer, tomorrow I am taking you on a special trip!"
