Chereads / Fushi Tensei: Undead Reincarnation / Chapter 14 - The Knight in the Night

Chapter 14 - The Knight in the Night

Seeing the horde, I ran in the opposite direction. A few mosquitoes managed to outpace me, and were hitting the back of my head with their proboscises (the pointy thing all mosquitoes have).

Somehow, I made it all the way out of the dungeon, but oh! A rock caused me to trip. "AHHHHHHH!", I screamed. Just like the lady in the movie Psych*, when the curtains are pulled back. But more about that later.

As I looked back behind me, the mosquitoes had apparently stopped at the entrance of the dungeon.

HA! I guess they can't leave the dungeon. Just like poor BDSM... I miss all the time I spent with BDSM... It sure was a good fight.

'But considering that most creatures couldn't leave the dungeon, why could I? What made me so special? Was I really different from the rest of these things?', I wondered.

Before another thought could take over my curiosity, I looked around the place. It was night-time, and I could see the starry sky and a moon, above me.

"Beautiful." I had never seen so many stars before in my life.

Looking left to right, I saw a forest filled with crooked, leafless trees. As I stepped further, I ended up standing on muddy ground.

"Ugh. I need to get some shoes. It just feels wrong having mud on my bones."

So, the conquest began. I headed forward, to find a way to get some shoes in the silent forest.

After about an hour, all I could see were trees. The dungeon was far behind, and ahead of me was uh-

Uh? A? A? What the heck is that? Light reflected over the shiny surface of an object getting closer. *Clink Clank*

As I squinted my eye sockets, I saw a knight walking towards me. He had silver armor on, covering the entirety of his body. I couldn't see that clearly, but it was obvious to me that the knight was 2-3 feet taller than me, and was far stronger, judging by the width of his armor around his buff hands. In his right hand, he held a great sword that shined red and silver, like a metal of sorts. *Clink Clank*

'God dammit. I don't want to fight another human.', I thought to myself.

I ran to the left with my lightsaber, hoping that the knight didn't see me already. The further I ran, the more distance I created between me and the armored knight.

And finally, encountering no problems across the forest whatsoever, I had exited the forest, and entered, what seemed to be a village.

Huts and houses were lined up next to one another, and there was a pavement below me, constructed of smooth marbles. "Ah! The feeling of a smooth ground..." I couldn't really feel the ground, but it visually felt better.

The houses were constructed of wood, and there were torches latched onto every door, to light the way. Not a single person could be sighted.

Walking around, seeing the different houses, I wondered how I could acquire some resources. The thought of breaking into one of the wooden houses crossed my mind, but I thought it inappropriate.

As I took a left turn, I saw a man standing on the end of the road. He had long blue hair, a patchy beard, and a red bandana across his forehead. A gold-handled dagger sheathed, attached to a leather belt. He looked to be muscular, and he looked right at me.

Before I could even think of running, he covered the distance and swung his dagger right at my ribs. "Oh sh*t." I had instinctively placed the lightsaber in front of me, countering the dagger.

But my strength alone, was not enough. I was flung back, and landed on my head as I toppled close to the forest.

The moment I was stationary again, another red pop-up appeared.

"Ugh." The feeling of pain. Before I would end up dead, I ran back into the forest and hid behind a tree, sitting on the ground. The place was beginning to light up a bit, and I could tell that the night was about to end.

I genuinely can't take this anymore. It's almost as if I transitioned into max difficulty. The mosquitoes in the dungeon, the knight in the forest, and the human dagger guy in the village. How the hell am I supposed to move on?!

No wonder mob monsters don't level up. Everyone else is just too overpowered here!

Before another thought could overtake me, the knight appeared right in front me. How had I not noticed it approaching?! It waved its great sword at my head, and all I could do was wait. The movement of his hand was too damn fast for me to lift my lightsaber up. Looking closer, I realized that the knight had no head. A DULLAHAN!

As the great sword landed on the top of my skull, the monster vanished into thin air. The sky was no longer dark, and the Sun had risen. However, the mark of the dullahan remained; a huge scar right on top of my head.

Phew. I was saved by the bell. I didn't know what happened, but I sure as hell was glad to still be here. Considering the way things were progressing, maybe if I would have died, the next dungeon could have been harder.

After all that I had experienced through the night, I could finally see the Sun rise, and brighten this world. "Haah...", I sighed.

"It's time to level up."
