Sugoroku Poker? From what I can deduce, It's a game where Sugoroku and Poker was merged. But I don't know how It merged. The Sugoroku I'm used playing with, and the Sugoroku we're going to play. Is it the same?
Sugoroku is a game adapted from the snake and ladder. You'll roll a dice and move your character, and your character's going to stand in the number of point the dice has shown.
Every tile of Sugoroku has punishment or benefits. In the end, It's just a game of luck where you're going to bet your chances by a roll of dice.
But if we're going to merge it with Poker, then all of this will change!
"Well, all of you might have a little idea what a Sugoroku Poker is. But I'll explain the rules anyways."
Here it is! The rules of Sugoroku Poker!
"The rules of Sugoroku is still the same. But instead of rolling a dice to decide who's going to be first and how many steps you'll get, we're going to decide... by Poker."
Poker! Like I thought, the only place where they can fit in Poker is dice rule.
"The dealer will give five cards to the five of you and that'll decide your hand. Every hand has an equivalent point. For example, a straights has 4 points so you can have 4 steps. Once all of you are given 5 cards, all of you will enter the showdown and the player who has the strongest hand will be the first to convert his or her hand to steps and move his or her character."
I see, by having the Poker decide the showdown and the number of steps you can have is actually a huge twist. But isn't this gamble a game of luck? If you actually got a trash hand every time, then there's no way for you advance.
"I'll continue. After every round, a Discard Phase will be held. You're allowed to discard one card and put it in the box."
I see, a discard phase, huh? If you've got a really good hand, for example, full house. You've got a Full House but there's a Hearts Of 1 in your hand. That means the Hearts of 1 will ruin the Full House so you need to discard it.
But the rules states that you need to at least have 5 cards to have an official hand. If we're going to discard one card, then we should get a card in return. I've gone ahead and asked the question I had in mind.
"Excuse me, If we're going to discard a card, are we going to get a card in return?"
"No, you're not."
What?
+++++
"I said that you're not going to get another card. If you only have 4 cards, that will be treated as an invalid hand and you can't play the current round."
What? What's with that rule? That's nonsense! Then, there's no reason to even discard a card! In the first place, if you've got a good hand, then you just have to keep it for the rest of the game and voila! You already won!
"I'll explain further. True, you're not going to get another card, for free that is."
What the hell? Is this a scam? They're definitely charging money, right?
"This game is still a Sugoroku. So every tile that you're step on, has a benefit and punishment, and money was involved in those punishment and benefits."
I forgot. This game is still Sugoroku! There are benefits and punishment in every tile! For example, you stopped in this certain tile, and the words 'you're going to get 1 Million Yen are written'. It means you're going to get 1 Million Yen.
If you're going to have benefits and you're to going to get money, then you can... buy a new card! Even multiple cards! I forgot that this is Sugoroku! Depending in the tile where you stopped, you could even... rise from the lowest or fall from the highest!
This is a complete game of chances and luck as I thought!
"There are 30 rounds in this game. All of the players who managed to reach the goal before reaching Round 30 will qualify for the preliminaries. Also, the money that you're going to get at the tiles of Sugoroku will be your war funds if you won, so don't use too much. Also, violence is forbidden. Anyone who will act violent will be automatically disqualified."
30 Rounds? Isn't that too long for a match of Sugoroku? What's the purpose making the match so long? Regardless, I didn't complained anything.
"So is all of the rules clear? Then, we're going to start! Line up here and the dealer will give you your cards."
I lined up like they said and the waited patiently. The line advances so fast, at least for me. The hand that I'm going to get will decide this whole match! Either I'll have a headstart or a handicap will be decided by this hand!
But wait... my luck is actually shit, right? All of the misfortunes I'd had last time actually came raging in my brain. I remembered every bit of it!
What the hell? Focus! I need to focus!!! Forget about the past for now and look forward! After some time, It's finally my turn and the dealer gave me 5 cards.
I gulped down some saliva and readied myself for the worst thing to come. I slowly turned around each card to see if my It's a great hand or a trash hand!
And the result was....
