Chapter 39 - Chapter 39

'I'm simply not attracted to any of those women. Lake mind your own business!' He replied. 'Ah! So you're attracted to her then…' Lake concluded. Luke stiffened. He didn't respond with anything else and looked away. Lake received that as a yes and was already committed to help her brother get a love life.

Their mother rolled her eyes when she saw them using their twin 'telepathy'. Her children were literally having a conversation through their thoughts. She sighed and looked at Ashlyn who had her arm covering her face. She smiled lightly when she thought of her sister and how she left her a wonderful niece behind.

There was a sudden call from their captain so she got up to receive it. "Honey, there is a storm so the flight will be delayed for another hour." Her husband informed her. "Is it dangerous." She asked with a frown.

"Nothing too serious, just some rain and clouds and a bit of thunder." He replied. "Don't scare me." She warned him and heard him chuckle. "Don't worry about it, I got everything under control." He told her.

"Last time you said that we got lost in the forest only to find out we were five minutes away from the entrance." She responded mockingly. "That I-"

" It was that one time…" He mumbled when he heard her hang up. "Geez woman sure, remember everything…" He complained knowing this incident took place when the twins were five years old.

On the other hand, Ashlyn had a frown on her face.

"Mom…" Ashlyn called out. Everything turned black and she went back to that scene. Her young self was kneeling on the ground completely frozen. Her hands turned cold and they were covered in blood. The loud noises of the ambulance could be heard.

But she didn't hear anything at all. She was just kneeling in the ground completely lost. Her heart had shattered into a million pieces. " Little girl… I'm sorry it's too late. Your father will be here soon. Let's go." The man came over and tried helping her up.

"Don't touch me!" She warned coldly and got up. " If you can't save her don't touch me! All of you… Should go. You work to save life's right? Of all people why didn't you save hers? Why.." She shouted.

"You're sorry? You didn't even know her!" She continued.

There were no more tears coming out from her eyes. She had cried for so long that her eyes were all red and puffy. An hour from that incident had already passed but they only appeared now.

"If you would have come earlier... She would have survived! That man wouldn't have shot her!" She yelled. A woman came forward and gave her a pitiful look. She held her arm and placed her hand on her head, trying to console her. Unfortunately, this would never work. "I said don't touch me! All of you just g-go!" She yelled.

Seeing two more people coming over to take her way she ran away. She ran for what felt like hours. She had her fists clenched so hard that her knuckles turned white. She gritted her teeth with hatred in her eyes. When she finally lost the people following behind her she stopped and hid in an alley.

He buried her head on her knees and started sobbing again. "Mom…" She called out. Just moments ago they were arguing about what the best ice cream flavor is and now….

Her hands shook and she bit her lip. She bit so hard blood came out. Even with the taste of her blood, she kept biting her lip. She sobbed silently as tears streamed down her face. "Mom…."

"Please! Don't leave me. I can't live like this."

"I beg you…"

The minutes passed by quickly but she kept the same position until the minutes turned into hours. Her body grew numb and her tears were dry. Her lips were purple and she slowly lost her consciousness…..

The last thing she did was whisper the same words. "Mom..please I beg you."

"Wake up!"

"Ashlyn dear wake up!"

"Wake up!"

"Come it's going to be okay wake up girl," Lake called out. She shook Ashlyn's body worriedly and so did her mom. She was sweating and her temperature was extremely high. They had not noticed her condition until she started shouting in her sleep and crying.

"Wake up baby it's okay." Ashlyn heard a whisper. "Mom!" She called out instantly. She heard her repeat the same words again and again. "Wake up!"

She fluttered and her eyes opened and felt extremely uncomfortable. Her head was pounding and she felt hot. She looked at her surroundings and found Lake next to her. She cleared her throat. "What happened?" She asked.

Lake and her aunt sighed in relief. Li Zi and Luke did too. Li Zi handed her a glass of water and Ashlyn took it gladly. She mumbled a thank you after drinking the whole glass and placed her palm on her forehead.

" We will be landing in fifteen minutes you guys get everything ready to leave. Luke go get me some pills." Ashlyn's aunt ordered and everyone listened. "Come here let me help you up." She told Ashlyn and led her towards the bathroom.

Once inside she hugged Ashlyn and sighed. "Sweetie you were calling out for your mom…" She told her. Ashlyn nodded. "I'm okay it was just a dream. Don't worry auntie it was a nice dream. I just feel sick." She told her. Her aunt frowned. "Although I can't tell what you were dreaming about, I know it wasn't a nice dream, don't lie to me." She told her sternly.

Luke knocked on the door and handed her mother another glass of water and some pills. He glanced at Ashlyn worriedly but his mom shooed him away quickly. "Here drink this" She ordered and Ashlyn obediently followed.

She helped herself from groaning in pain at her headache. "When we land you'll go straight to a hotel and rest you hear me? If you need any help call one of the twins or your manager. Except for your hotel room don't go anywhere alone." She ordered her.

Ashlyn nodded. "I'll do as you say, aunt. Don't worry about me I'll be fine." Ashlyn smiled ignoring her pain. "See that's exactly why I worry. I can't even trust my instincts anymore. I'm not sure if your acting is a blessing or a curse." She told her. Ashlyn laughed softly. "I'll be fine."

"Take a shower and get yourself freshened up. We will land soon." Her aunt continued telling her what to do strictly. Ashlyn obediently did as she said and didn't complain.
