Chapter 1 - Disaster Survival

James loaded up his virtual activity device, ready to load into CHUNKS. He had recently purchased access to CHUNKS and couldn't wait to get started. It was a game platform, anybody who wanted to could create a CHUNKS game as long as they purchased a developer pass (which typically sold around $100 each). James sat down on his bed, attached both sensors to his temples and pressed start on the V.A.D (virtual activity device). A small electrical jolt sent nerves running through his body as a white room surrounded him and the V.A.D company logo appeared on the screen. 'At least it's not an advertisement,' he thought to himself.

As the logo disappeared James took no time browsing through his game and movie list to find CHUNKS. A small loading wheel along with a pop-up for an update took up his vision which led to a groan coming out of James's mouth. "I just installed it and it has to update? What kinda b.s is this?" James rolled his eyes and let the update run its course.

As the update finished he was prompted to make an account, however since his V.A.D had his information it quickly plugged all of it in and then he was prompted to make a user name. He mindlessly typed in his online name, which was xXxMicrowavexXx. A joke name he made up when he was a kid but went with because every other game account had the same juvenile username. A small grin appeared as a welcome message popped up 'Welcome to CHUNKS xXxMicrowavexXx. Since he was new to CHUNKS James decided to play the first and currently most popular game. 'Disaster Ordeal.' "Play Disaster Ordeal," James commanded verbally. He had heard CHUNKS was voice command.

A small loading wheel appeared along with the thumbnail of 'Disaster Ordeal' which was just a building being ravaged by a tornado. His character loaded in, vision switching from the thumbnail to an in-game lobby. Couches and chairs filled the area along with a small obstacle course people could complete to help train their parkour skills. He got up and headed over to the couch and laid down. The V.A.D allowed for wholesome feelings to be simulated such as the feel of warmth and coolness or the texture of the couch he was laying on. He slowly sunk into it, it was comfortable which meant the developer took their time making every detail of the game solid.

A small timer buzzed, the round ended and a list of survivors appeared. Loud sounds came from the survivors a few laughing, others wincing while healing their wounds and some leaving the game. A small transition and James was in the middle of a giant lot along with several trailers. A small sign appeared in front of him informing him that the map was aptly called 'Parking Trailer' A few people started walking towards some of the trailers while others waited outside talking to others. "So, what was your email address again?" he overheard. The clear skies quickly turned cloudy and as soon as they did someone yelled "TORNADO!" Everyone scattered to get indoors however a few seconds later a voice boomed from the sky "Acid Rain incoming! Get indoors!" as the voice boomed a few people groaned at the thought that they were dealing with acid rain and not a tornado.

James ran to different trailers, finding most of them locked he proceeded to dig away at some dirt beneath a trailer and hid underneath a hot pink colored trailer. A small lump rose in his throat and some of his neck hairs raised when the rain started falling. A small sizzle appeared with each drop, over time some of the trailers started melting and with them came screaming. People came out running of some of the more melted trailers, some of their skin dripping off onto the ground. It was a terrifying sight. Some dropped to the ground and their body disappeared meaning they respawned in the lobby.

The trailer above him started making a sound as it was getting melted. A drop of acid melted through the top and bottom of it, hitting James in the back. The pain radiated for a few seconds before disappearing. He forgot to turn the pain sensitivity down from the last time he used the V.A.D. Meaning that each drop would hurt like all hell. It felt like a pen or pencil got stabbed through his back. "Please let it end," James muttered, "I've gotta change my settings in the lobby." The rain slowly came to a stop and the round ended. The survivor list came up and his username appeared, xXxMicrowavexXx was one of the few survivors and with that win he got an achievement, commemorating his first victory in Disaster Ordeal.
