When he woke up, Will walked out of the workshop to see Vince cleaning his house.
"You are awake? Good job yesterday night." Vince nodded. "Have some of the breakfast."
Will thanked Vince and had breakfast. He then walked to the Elder's house, where the Elder was already waiting for him. When he saw Will he nodded with a glad look.
"Young man, you helped us with the sudden crisis, I am very thankful to you as are many of the villagers."
Will nodded. "I just did what I should have done, Elder."
The Elder smiled. "Take these pair of clothes as a gift. I can see that you are facing hard times."
[Basic Plain Clothes Set]
Will looked at the set of ordinary clothes and was surprised. Each item actually had a Speed + 1 attribute, and the total set gave a Speed + 6.
Will quickly changed the clothes. After thanking the Elder, who told him that the guard was looking for him. Will remembered that the useless wooden sword was still with him.
Will walked to the guard who was standing on the cobbled path. "Hello, sir."
The guard's eyes lit up. "It's you. Come with me."
Will followed the guard back to his house. The guard went in and brought out a wooden machine mannequin. "Hand me the wooden sword." He said.
Will was confused, but handed the wooden sword the guard had loaned him. The guard nodded.
"I will teach you how to swing the sword. Look carefully as I explain." The guard said. Then he swung the wooden sword onto the mannequin. Along the while he explained his movements carefully, which Will listened to with attention.
[You have been instructed in Basic Sword Skill.]
[Learned new Skill - Basic Sword Skill (Locked)]
[Black Sky]
[Human Level 0]
[Basic Sword Skill (Locked)]
The guard then nodded. "You should have got the basic gist. Now you should activate the skill."
[Quest - Swing the practice sword until skill unlock.]
Will nodded and then took the wooden sword. After the guard's urging, Will began swinging the sword on the mannequin.
With each swing, Will felt the reverberations from the mannequin and a proficiency meter appeared with each swing.
"33%"
"26%"
"42%"
Slowly, the proficiency with each swing began gradually improving. When Will had swung about a hundred times he was having about 80% proficiency. However, now the the proficiency had become harder to improve.
At that moment, Will was confused. Just to learn how to swing the sword, he had to practice so much. Then how were other players hunting monsters were using swords? He browsed through the forums and discovered the situation.
Players were generally loaning a sword when they began their journey in Twilight Orbit, and then began hunting the monsters. However, their accuracy would be terrible initially. However, the shop in the beginner village sold a potion that increased accuracy by 5 for one hour which was extremely cheap and with that every random swing would be able to kill the monsters.
Will realized that the players weren't learning a skill, but swinging using raw power and that the monsters actually didn't have much attack. However, he himself had killed around 20 monsters but had yet to level up, which surprised him.
Will returned to swinging the practice sword on the mannequin.
"87%"
"93%
Eventually, Will suddenly felt like he was in the zone and his swung was very much like an extension of his own arm. He swung again and the sword hit the mannequin with force.
"100%"
[Quest Complete.]
[Basic Sword Skill unlocked.]
[Skill point + 2]
Will sighed in relief. At that moment, he felt a wave of insight in his mind the moment the skill got unlocked. He also received 4 skill points in total.
Getting skill points was not easy in Twilight Orbit, so Will didn't use his skill points. Now that the quest was completed, the guard appeared again and he nodded. "You aren't a natural, but you are a hard worker. I hope you can use the skill well. Keep the wooden sword."
Will thanked the guard. He went to the store to purchase food. The store was manned by none other than Linda. When Linda saw Will, her face was inscrutable.
"Welcome. To be honest, I don't know how to think about you. On the one hand you saved me from the curse, one the other you attacked me with that horrible glass bomb." Linda spoke.
Will had an apologetic look on his face. "Miss Linda, I apologize for that. I only struck out in self defense."
"I know. Thank you for yesterday night." Linda nodded.
Will purchased lunch to have and replenished his stamina after eating the sandwich. He sold the rabbit fur to the store. Then he looked through the items for sale and found something that wasn't in the guides.
[Rattan Scarf - Cursed]
Will looked at Linda with a questioning look. "That is the object which cursed me. I want to sell it off. The item was sold to me by one of you adventurers."
Will was curious. "Miss, didn't you or the adventurer realize that the item was cursed earlier?"
Linda shook her head. "It appeared to be an ordinary rat monster remain. Who would've known it was an item cursed by the Rattan."
Will nodded. However, he didn't purchase the item. Linda looked at him. "If you purchase it, you could try to remove its curse."
"I don't know how to." Will replied shaking his head. "I have never dealt with a curse before."
Linda sighed. "Why don't you go meet grandma Golo. She could heal me, may be she knows what could be done with this cursed object."
[Quest - Investigate the Cursed Rattan Scarf]
Will acknowledged Linda's request and made his way to the Grandma's house. He found the house where she lived. It was an old house which seemed to be poorly managed. The grandma lived alone.
Will quietly knocked on the door. Five minutes later, the old grandma opened the door. When she saw Will, she nodded and went back in. Will followed the old woman quietly.
"What are you looking for, boy?" Grandma Golo asked.
"Grandma, I am trying to investigate the cursed object which caused the problem yesterday night." Will said.
