"Hey, Chang. Morning!" A guy named Carrera greets me with a big smile. I greet him back while doing special handshake with the other. Whatever's happened at Alfredo's Pizza Shack few days ago does this.
It really was a welcoming party. After I beat them with so much struggle, they woke up one by one then started to talk and laugh with me while eating pizza and beer like nothing happened. What a bunch of boy scouts.
Ten minutes later, Mr White, our leader, comes. He starts collecting our phones and distributes ear sets for us.
"Alright, listen up, boys," White begins his morning briefing. I and the other 10 men immediately standing make a row in front of him.
"Today Mr. Chekhovsky will have an important meeting outside. He wants full security, means all of us will go with full loaded and protection," White tells us.
This is one of the tricky thing about Mr. Chekhovsky's security procedure. We only know his schedule in the morning briefing when all our gadgets to contact outside the world are already secured. Even Mr White, the security leader, only knows about the schedule merely five minutes before us.
"Jackson, you will drive the front car. Carrera will take the rear car. Inner level will be in Mr. Chekhovsky's car, others split on the two car. Any question ?"
"At what time we will go ?" a man asks. White frowns. "Why is it important ?"
"No.. Nothing. It's my mom's birthday. I am expected to be home early today," the man hesitanly tells his reason. Some chuckle hearing it.
"It's a lunch meeting. You'll be home before your mom blows her candles," White answers him.
"Anything else ?" White asks. We shake our head.
"Good. Mr Chekhovsky will arrive in 30 minutes. On your post!" The line immediately breaks once we are dismissed.
"You heard it ?" I ask with a low voice. "Yeah. At lunch with no location," Thief answers me.
"Better than nothing. Ask Bob to follow our motorcade carefully to know the location. Make sure he would not be caught. His men will get to do their part over my signal. Bob knows the signal already," I tell Thief what she needs to do.
"Okay," Thief agrees. I end our conversation right when I reach my post. With my tongue I remove small thing that sticks in my inner teeth and take it out of my mouth. Along with another small thing from the back of my ear, I squeeze to destroy them to pieces.
-----------
I'm standing in a sideway in front of a European restaurant along with six other bodyguards. Mr. Chekhovsky is inside the restaurant, having a meeting with someone that seems very important, being guarded by three men of his inner level, including Mr. White.
I'm sure even if there is a party inside, Mr. Chekhovsky won't have a single bite nor a sip of the food and drinks there. He only eats food that made by his wife and each glass of drink that he has must be inspected by Mr Sternov, his right hand, the only man he trusts wholeheartedly. So without Mr. Sternov beside him, he definitely won't eat or drink.
Almost an hour later, Mr. White's voice is heard from my ear set, ordering us to check condition of the outside before Mr. Chekhovsky gets out. Carera reports it is all clear.
A minute later, Mr. Chekhovsky walks out of the restaurant surrounded by three body guards. Each bodyguard that being passed over by the group immediately surrounds himself to make the second layer, facing outside of the circle. I fix my sunglasses before get ready to do the same procedure. I walk backwards approaching Mr. Chekhovsky's car, body facing the restaurant.
Suddenly there is a chaos behind me. When I turn my head, the car is already covered with smoke.
"Hey, what's going.."
A motorcycle passes the street and the rider throws something right in to the circle.
"Watch out !!" That's the only words I manage to say. The body guards that surround Mr. Chekhovsky in reflect scattered, trying to safe their selves from what ever thrown to them, leaving Mr. Chekhovsky alone, vulnerable.
I see a person in long board about to pass the sideway. The person is still calm and not stunned or panic even when the chaos is vividly happens in front of him. I rush to approach Mr. Chekhovsky who is standing alone in confused. I jump on him, cover him with my body as something painful hits my left hand.
With Mr. Chekhovsky under me, I grab my gun, point it to the long boarder who fasten his speed and shoot him. But I miss.
"Are you alright, Sir ?" I ask Mr. Chekhovsky. The old man, still in stammered, nods. "We need to get you out of here fast," I tell him then drag him inside the car before I jump sit next to him and tell the driver to go after shutting the door.
In the moving car, I take off my tie to bind my wound. My mouth skips a groan to feel the pain.
"You're hurt !" Mr. Chekhovsky exclaims in panic.
"I'm okay, sir," I respond him.
"We need to get you to the hospital," Mr. Chekhovsky says.
"No, Sir. My priority is to get you safe first. We go back to 617 immediately," I order the driver, end it with a wince out of the wound. "I'll be okay, Sir. It's only a scratch," I add to calm him down. I then see a spot of fresh blood on the beige covers of the back seat.
"I'm sorry I stain your car, Sir," I ask him an apologize.
Mr. Chekhovsky looks at me for a second before giving me a gentle smile. "Don't mind it, son. What's your name ?"
-----------------
"What did you do ?" Mr. White asks and pushes me hard against the wall at the same time. "Why did you take Mr. Chekhovsky by your self without having any backup? You're trying to kidnap him ?"
"What are you talking about ?!! It was a chaos ! I only tried to safe him !" I deny his accusation. I try to escape his lunge, but he deliberately presses my wound. The pain is stunned me.
"You broke the protocol !"
"It was emergency !"
"There are rules for every condition ! Even for emergency !"
"Well, maybe the rules must be.."
"Excuse me.. Mr. White.. ?" someone's voice breaks our argument.
"What ?!" Mr. white barks at him.
"Enng.. Mr. Chekhovsky wants to have a word with you," the man says. Mr. White loosens his grips on me and letting me go. "And you, too, Chang. Mr. Chekhovsky also wants to see you," the man adds.
--------------
"How could your men left me unguarded ?!!" Mr. Chekhovsky yells at Mr. White with rage.
"Sir.. It.. it was.. reflect.." Mr. White answers him in stammered.
"So, you told your men that it is okay to left me unguarded on reflect ?!!" Mr. Chekhovsky snaps at him. Mr. White is tongue-tied.
"No, Sir. I'm sorry," Mr. White says then drops his head.
"There is no room for error, White," Mr. Chekhovsky says to him with a very cold tone, even I who stands near the door get shiver.
"No, sir. Please forgive me. It won't happen again. Please, Sir.. Please..," Mr. White is now pleading, no.. even whimpering to Mr. Chekhovsky.
"You know the rule, White," Mr. Chekhovsky says.
"No, Sir.. Please..."
"White.. White.. Look at me !" Mr. Chekhovsky calls him, this time with a gentle tone. "Look at me, White." Mr. White raises his head to look at him with teary eyes.
"Thank you for your service, White," Mr. Chekhovsky says to him sincerely before put a bullet in Mr. White's forehead.
