As soon as he arrived at the first floor, Rick headed to the reception where a man wearing a black suit was dealing with a lot of what looked like new recruits and members before giving them an envelope and sending them out.
"Excuse me, I was told to take my first assignment here.." The man stared at Rick for a second, then he spoke.
"Name?"
"Rod.... Rick Lawson."
The man's eyes lit when he heard the name before his gaze wandered before locking on the obelisk device on the youth's wrist.
"So you are the one I was told about. There has been numerous reports of missing people in the southern sector, rural area..."
"Wait. It's the police who should do something about this?"Rick interrupted. He found strange to be sent to do something the police was supposed to deal with.
"Well, yes. You are not wrong, but this only applies to ordinary cases which is not the case this time. From what our intelligence gathered, the perpetrator must be an elemental master or a beast that managed to invade our island and in both cases it is the Divine Guardians that deal with it. You assignment is to go there and investigate with the police. All the details can be found in the obelisk, if necessary use the obelisk to reinforcements."
"Understood." Leaving the Headquarters, he saw a flying car of the latest Mythic model. Fully black with a special wind core taken from wind element beast. Inside the car, Rick saw the driver, a middle aged man with sunglasses waiting for him.
"Investigator, I am the driver the headquarters assigned to you. My number has been registered in your communication device already, just call wherever you need me. The name is Jake."
Rick nodded and then he looked at the information sent to his obelisk. The names, address, family, the day they vanished. All of that was registered in his device.
"Jake, take me to the River Street." River Street, where the latest victim lived. A seventy-eight old grandma, she was with her grandson when she went to the kitchen and vanished. This is the first case there has been a witness to the disappearance which made it the first place he should go. Observing the wonderful view of Eden from above, Rick was surprised to see how big the city was. With the north, east and central sectors as residential and marked areas. The southern were the source of all the crops and weapons. It was also when the study of elemental weapons started 300 years ago with the professor Cloud who wanted to find a way for first stage elemental masters to fight stronger beasts without help.
They were about to arrive when Rick's activated, giving him a warning. Feeling a chill on his neck and taking a deep breath, he could easily feel a strong smell of blood in the air, Now he was sure this assignment won't be easy to complete.Rick and the driver opened the windows without hesitation, but even though it was 11 am it was too dark to see everything. They just heard gunshots and small flares that helped them see the figure of strange creatures fighting the police officers.
Concentrating, Rick could feel his brain accelerating as his eyes shone blue. His senses were improved which allowed him to see through darkness. Now he realized that maybe things could be worse that he thought.
"Jake stay here in the sky. I will go there."
"Yes sir!" Being a driver, Jake would never jump in the danger like this Investigator from the divine guardians. Opening the door, Rick jumped from the flying car surprising the police officers who saw a man falling from the sky. One of the creatures was about to take a police officer down when Rick fell right above it, smacking the creature under his feet. Helping the officer get up, Rick stared at the twenty creatures attacking the other police officers while noticing the bodies of countless civilians. soon the creatures noticed his presence and all headed towards him.
"Rick Lawson, investigator of the Divine guardians. Go help the other officers, I will take care of the creatures." The light in his eyes grew in a matter of seconds. A creature attacked him on the back, but lucky those creatures were all slow with his innate ability would he saw them all in slow motion.
Seeing a gun in the ground, Rick dodged the first creature then slid toward the gun. The creature noticed it was in danger, but the investigator had taken the gun and shot behind him as the bullet hit its head.
Bang! It head exploded, but Rick noticed there was no blood. Even the smell made him think the creature was dead for a long time.
"One!" Staring at the gun, he realized a utility he didn't thought of earlier.
Overflow! The darkness around them suddenly disappeared and exchanged by a bright blue light. Lightning covered Rick's body as he felt a unlimited amount of energy bursting from within his body as he shot three bullets forward.
"Elemental Master!" The officers that didn't noticed his presence before yelled in happiness.
boom!
The bullets covered in lightning slashed, and countless pieces of flesh flew. Then the second bullet arrived and hit a creature in the back, the lightning burst forth and the ground was cut out of a large pit. Even the third one, as soon as it tried to got up, it exploded just like the others leaving lightning marks on the ground.
"What was that, lightning?" A officer asked. Stunned by Rick's lightning.
"Don't think about it, just continued killing the beasts."
"Two, three and four. Now for the close combat." Rick was happy with himself. Then his body was shot at a beast like a thunderbolt and grabbed it's head before he smashed it on the ground leaving a small crater behind.
Boom!
Pang!
Boom!
Wherever he passed a trail of body pieces would be left behind, soon Rick had finished all the beasts and he stared at the bodies with disappointment. Wishing he could fight more, but it seems overflow used more energy than he thought and he just eat a ton of food to replenish his energy.
"Mister investigator?" The police officers approached him and Rick showed his Badge. He asked how those beasts appeared here, but no one seemed to know the answer. Then he stepped besides a corpse only to see all of them shared the same thing. No blood flowing out and their bodies were all rotten inside.
"It seems I will have to call for help." Searching for the registered people in his obelisk. He saw Athena's name and remembered that she was the main researcher of beasts in the Divine Guardians. A holographic screen only him could see appeared and the figure of Athena appeared.
"Oh, if it isn't our new investigator. How it is going the assignment we gave you."
"Not good. Twenty beasts appeared out of nowhere and attacked the police officers. Three were killed, but I managed to clear the area before more died."
"Good, it is just what we expected from our golden boy. Now, where is the problem?"
"This!" Rick showed the bodies of the beasts to her before continuing: "I killed them all, but there was no blood, their flesh was rotten and they could not use any elements. They looked more like wild creatures than elemental beasts. I believe this could have something to do with the missing people."
Rick was observing Athena's face as he explained what he saw and a hint of fury was caught by his eyes. It seems she knew what was happening.
" This is not something you can do by yourself, you must return right now. We will deal with it."
