Chapter 1 - Worlds Collide

'WE WON!' The soldiers roared out in utter happiness. They were seen surrounding the corpse of a big, white whale. A boy walked up towards them. He was in a very unique attire. All the people there, be it the soldiers, villagers, and even the mounts, were in some kind of mediaeval outfits. However, the boy was wearing an orange tracksuit.

'Good going!' The boy called out. A girly looking boy walked in front of the boy in tracksuit and smiled at him while doing a girly pose.

Hands on his hips, body bent slightly to the right, head tilted to the left, lips curled up in a seductive manner, the girly boy said: 'It's all thanks to you Subaru-kun. Ferris-nya is now attracted to you~'

The boy, now known as Subaru, shuddered at the display the catboy showed.

'C'mon Felix! That's creepy!' Subaru stepped back. As he did so, he felt a hand on his back.

'Ah!' Subaru immediately turned around and got into a kung-fu pose. He calmed down however when he saw a girl with blue hair and eyes. She was wearing a maid outfit, signifying that she was working as a maid.

'Rem…' Subaru muttered as he placed his hand on his forehead.

'Subaru. Are you okay?' Rem asked, worry evident on her face. Subaru nodded as he turned back, noticing the noise in the background. It turns out that the soldiers who defeated the White Whale were having some kind of celebration. Subaru nodded to himself as he knew many of those who joined the subjugation had beef with the White Whale.

'Subaru. Shall we go?' Rem asked from behind. Subaru turned back and smiled.

'Let's go!' Subaru was happy. Really happy. He finally made it this far. He would stop the Witch Cult once and for all. Or that was how it should have been. Out of nowhere, a black portal resembling a black hole opened up in the sky.

'What is that?' Murmurs could be heard. Rem, on the other hand, seemed to be in guard.

'What's wrong?' Subaru asked.

'That thing...I sense that...it's extremely dangerous...' Subaru tensed up upon hearing Rem's words. He was scared, no doubt. Rem had never spoken so seriously before...well...with the exception of that one time she killed him outside the mansion.

Suddenly, everything blacked out.

Chapter 1

'Argh…' Subaru opened his eyes. At this point, he expected himself to be somewhere in the past. However, to his surprise, he was in a place he had never seen before. Looking around, he saw rubble. He rubbed his eyes and confirmed his suspicions.

He was in a new world. How did he know? Well, it was extremely obvious with the fact that he was in a modern location. The area had skyscrapers, or at least, half a skyscraper.

Shocked at this new event, he walked around cautiously.

'Rem! Rem! Where are you!' Well, being Subaru, he didn't think about shouting being a dead giveaway about his presence. As Subaru continued to walk, he heard footsteps.

Surprised, he crouched down, grabbed a random stick he could find, and ambushed the person. The stranger however yelled out: 'Snipe!'

A small pebble broke the stick into half. Subaru landed on his feet and looked at the person. The person was wearing a white tunic, blue pants, black adventuring boots and a green hood. His green eyes stared into those of Subaru's.

'Who are you…' The stranger spoke cautiously. Subaru looked at the person and thought he looked awfully like a Japanese. Taking a risk, Subaru raised his hands in a surrender pose.

'Sorry. I thought you were the enemy. You wouldn't happen to be Japanese, would'cha?' Subaru asked. The stranger's eyes widened as he let his guard down.

'My name's Satou Kazuma.' The boy said.

'Natsuki Subaru. So you're a Japanese huh.' Subaru replied.

'I thought I was in another world…' Kazuma muttered. Subaru heard it and put his hand up to his chin.

'So Kazuma, you got transported to another world too?'

'Yeah...before this I was in a fantasy world.'

'Same…'

'Then you saw a big, black portal that resembled a black hole?'

'Yes…' Kazuma was now beginning to think, it seemed. He tapped his foot a few times before coming to a conclusion.

'Subaru. We have been transported once again to another world. It might be a summoning of heroes.' Subaru thought about it.

'(If what Kazuma said is true, I was selected. What? I only have Return by Death!)' Kazuma suddenly turned around in shock.

'I sense someone!'

'(Oh and this guy already has a much better ability than me!)' Subaru complained in his mind. Kazuma drew a shortsword from his belt and got it at the ready while Subaru took a combat stance.

Heavy footsteps could be heard as a black, bear-like monster appeared in front of them. It had a white mask on.

Kazuma narrowed his eyes at the sight.

'Hmm...Snipe!' Kazuma yelled out suddenly as he took a pebble out of his bag and launched it at the beast. It deflected off the tough hide.

'Grahh!' The beast now charged at them angered.

'Any other pl-' Subaru was interrupted. Why? Kazuma turned tail and ran.

'Hey Kazuma!' Subaru ran after him.

'Yes I'm Kazuma!' Kazuma cheekily replied as he continued running. The beast was fast. And I mean, fast. It managed to smash through all the debris and started swinging at Kazuma and Subaru.

Before, Subaru probably would've taken a hit to return back in time to try to change the things that have happened. But as he was in a new world, he wasn't even sure if his ability would work. Thus, he focused very hard on dodging the strikes.

Kazuma, on the hand, was yelling out a lot of things such as 'Steal', 'Stun', 'Explosion' and the likes. Subaru freaked out at the phrase 'Explosion' and Kazuma assured him that he was joking. He didn't even know the spell, and even if he did, he didn't have the mana to cast it. And even if he could somehow cast Explosion, they would all die. Subaru most definitely didn't get reassured by Kazuma's words.

They were soon backed into a corner for Kazuma made the wrong move and led them both into a dead end.

'Ah...Kami...I guess this is how I die...actually... scratch that! Aqua is definitely laughing at me right now!' Kazuma yelled out at the top of his lungs.

Subaru, rather than feeling scared like a normal person should be, and I would like to emphasise normal, which Kazuma and Subaru aren't, was just smirking.

'(I may die...but I believe...Return by Death wouldn't let me go so easy.)' Subaru closed his eyes as he prepared to rewind time, when something strange happened.

'Let's do this!' A voice was heard. A cute voice. And in a blur, a trail of rose petals appeared. The blur started to attack the beast, and in a few seconds, the beast fell and disappeared into ashes.

The blur began to slow down and when it did, a girl, of about age 17, in a red hood, appeared.

'Take that you meanie!' The girl announced in her incredibly cute voice. It was in fact so cute, that Kazuma began to visibly pant, as he started to get flushed, and his nose began to bleed.

Subaru had a face of pure disgust. '(And I thought Kazuma was cool…)'

'Heya! My name's Ruby Rose!' The girl excitedly said as she rushed towards Kazuma, only to get pulled back by Subaru.

'Don't! You ever heard of the Red Riding Hood? Kazuma's the wolf right now!' Subaru quickly said. Ruby however, looked confused.

'Huh?' Ruby asked.

'(Oh boy...this girl's an innocent one isn't she?)'

Subaru quickly introduced himself and Kazuma, to which Ruby giggled at.

'Sorry...but...your names are just so funny!' said Ruby as she rolled around on the floor comically.

Subaru raised his eyebrow at that. '(But I thought these were pretty normal names in Japan…)'

Then, it dawned on Subaru.

'Hey Ruby. Don't mind me asking, but are you from Japan?'

'Je-Fre? Is that a new flavour for cookies?' Subaru sighed as he realised that Ruby wasn't from Japan. But looking at her outfit, he noticed that it was pretty modern, so she couldn't be from a fantasy world.

'So...where are you from?' Kazuma asked. Subaru turned around and realised that Kazuma has gotten over his creepy perverted phase.

'I'm from Patch!' Subaru and Kazuma jawdropped at that. They didn't know where Patch is.

'Um... where's Patch?' Subaru asked.

'Wha...how do you not know Patch? I mean I know it's an island but still-' Ruby got interrupted by Kazuma as Kazuma said one thing.

'We're from different worlds Ruby. Well, not me and Subaru but us and you.' Ruby looked visibly shocked at this as she shivered.

'So you're not from Remnant?' Kazuma shook his head. Ruby held her head down.

'(Poor girl...she must be so shocked…)' Subaru thought as he tried to think of a way to comfort Ruby. One rule of Subaru is to always help as many people that he can possibly help. That was why he helped out the kids in the village when that Wolgarm placed a curse on everyone.

However, Ruby wasn't actually feeling negatively shocked. She was instead super surprised and excited. She suddenly appeared beside Kazuma and started to ask questions about our world. More specifically, the weapons our world had.

Kazuma pretty much wetted his pants when Ruby's eyes glittered when hearing about a nuclear warhead.

'Seeing new kinds of weapons is like meeting new people! It's an incredible thing!' Ruby exclaimed.

'Good speech Professor.' Kazuma said.

'Wait...she's a professor?' Subaru asked as Kazuma facepalmmed and asked Subaru.

'Ever heard of jokes?' The three soon finished their banter and began to discuss about what had happened. They soon agreed that the black portal was the cause of this weird phenomenon. Ruby said that she had to find her team as with her team, they were a beast.

Kazuma mentioned that he had a Goddess of Water on his team who could pretty much revive anyone and the three agreed that she would be a valuable asset, despite Kazuma constantly claiming that Aqua is useless.

Subaru said that he had to find his friends as they wielded some amazing magic, especially a person named Roswaal.

The three soon decided to team up for the time being as the areas as pretty dangerous and despite Ruby's skills, she wasn't that confident about fighting the stronger monsters, Grimm, she called. It also turned out that while Kazuma had low-leveled skills, as he called it, he had a wide variety of them.

Well, when Subaru tried telling them about Return by Death, he felt the Unseen Hands threatening to crush his heart once again. So he ended up saying he was useless. To which Kazuma snorted and claimed that Aqua, the epitome of uselessness, was more useful than him.

Subaru ignored the statement however, as he figured that since the threat was still present, it meant that he still had the ability. So he was feeling rather good about himself.

They decided to leave their current locations soon after the discussion when they heard a loud explosion in the distance. It was followed by what seemed like the loud chirping of birds. Curious, the trio decided to head that direction, in hopes of finding an ally in this forsaken place. Yet, they were also prepared for an encounter with the enemy.

Full of hope, the trio set off, not knowing of the trying times ahead of them and the world.
