"And that is why we do NOT discriminate based on what they are, but who they are as a person." The bell rung, signalling that school was over for the dash when Ms Dawson finished her lecture.
Everyone hurriedly got up from their seats and rushed out of the classroom, thankful that they didn't have to be stuck here anymore.
"Don't wait for me guys, I have some stuff to do." I told Kia and Joey, slinging my bag over my shoulder as I stopped by the door.
"Okay, just be at Dimes Diner by five." Kia pointed her finger at me playfully. "Don't wanna break tradition."
I playfully slapped her finger away, smiling as I watched the two of them chat as they walked down the corridor.
I leaned my head against, constantly looking over my shoulder waiting for Delilah to walk out. I got confused looks from people as I stood there waiting for her to come out. I don't blame them, school was over and I was standing there, waiting for Delilah to finish talking to the teacher. It looked like I was eavesdropping.
I had grabbed onto Delilah when she walked out pulling her closer to me, causing her to shriek.
"Woah," I said, backing away from her, "it's just me."
She heaved heavily, holding onto her chest. "Please don't ever do touch me again."
She recollected herself, brushing out her skirt. She walked away from, her nose in the air. I stood there, confused by her sudden change in behaviour.
I quickly followed after, swaying as I walked beside her. I could tell she was trying to speed up her pace, but her fast walk was like a sluggish stroll to me.
"Are you trying to avoid me Delilah?" I asked, looking down at her.
"And why'd you think that Leo?" She retorted, still not looking at me.
"I don't know. Just the fact that you won't," I spun her around so we'd be face to face, "look at me. Am I that ugly or?"
Delilah smiled warmly before dropping and staring at me with a stone cold face. "I'm looking at you now."
"Delilah, look I know I have known you for like a solid two minutes. What possible reason is there for you to avoid me."
"I don't know..." She said, tapping her chin sarcastically, "maybe it's the fact you smashed a beer bottle over someone's head? Or does that not ring a bell or two."
I scratched my neck. "Oh, it definitely rings a bell, but I was defending a friend !"
"I really don't care if you were defending a friend or not, you don't just smash bottles over peoples heads!"
"Even if they were a racist?"
"That doesn't give you any brownie points, Leo." Delilah sighed deeply. "Look, I was really feeling you at that party and I'm pretty sure you felt the same way with me, it's just that my first impression of you was ruined by you smashing a bottle over someone's head."
"So you see me as..."
"Violent." Delilah interrupted. "I see you as violent Leo. And I don't want to be involved with violent people."
"If it helps, that's like the first fight I've gotten in this whole month." I said, looking down at my feet.
Delilah cocked her eyebrows. "This whole month, really?"
"Hey! That's better than the usual once a week." I added, trying to make her feel better about the situation.
Delilah scoffed. "You know what, thanks for helping me back there but," she rummaged through her bag and took out my pair of sunglasses that Ms Dawson took off of me, "take these and stop getting involved even your friends problems."
And with that, Delilah stormed off.
"Does it help to know that's it's self defence Deli—nope she's too far gone to hear me now, dammit!"
