Chapter 79 - The Surni Cult

The forgotten continents.

A place filled with terror.

No one truly knows or understands what lives there, it's a mystery to most but has piqued up the interest of adventurers over the billions of years that the world has existed.

What the adventurers would find would be unlike anything they'd normally expect. Environments that would drag them to the point of insanity and creatures so large and feared that humans were just simple ants to them.

Most adventurers would die, but not all.

Those who survived would build civilisation, but that civilization couldn't survive through normal means.

"TODAY IS THE DAY!" A voice screamed from the forest floor as the skyscraper trees in the rainforest stood silently still. "We reach one step closer to see you!"

Many cults formed inside the forgotten continent. After witnessing the power of these creatures, it made sense for them to see them as gods that they couldn't escape from.

"We offer you this sacrifice as a way of showing us a path in life that we could never repay you for. No amount of human blood could be enough."

The man who screamed stood in the centre, sounded by those who all bowed in dark black cloaks covering their faces. They all didn't look at the midday sky that was shown through the parting trees. Only the man in the white cloak, who stood next to a crying; pleading, girl, was allowed to look up.

As the girl's tears echoed around the rainforest, the leaves above started the rustle. Tree leaves from far and near all shook as if something moved through the canopy. The sky above quickly turned dark, but the girl couldn't look up to see what it was.

She could feel its breath on her as its tongue came down from the heaven's above and wrapped itself around her.

Had she not died from shock, the poison on the creatures tongue would have killed her.

"I'm jealous…" The man in white fell to the ground on his knee, as all the members said in unison:

"We thank you, our lord and saviour, our queen who protects us, Mistress Surni."

They all stood up once the sky reappeared. They looked around at each other as the sun was right above, the wind blowing through the leaves as peace entered their minds.

"Bring the next girl." The head spoke.

The other's bowed and immediately went away to retrieve the next sacrifice.

The arrival of the sacrifice was announced through their screams. Their attempts to beg for their lives even if they knew it was useless, but this time it was different.

The head turned around to face the blonde-haired elf that stood before him. Her neck tightly wrapped with a thick metal chain which was tugged at whenever she'd refuse.

"Good to see you again, Amara." Said the head, "I hope you are ready. You are lucky to be given as a gift for our queen. If only I was born a girl."

Amara, the chained elf, didn't reply. Her time spent with the Surni cult was short. Having only arrived a few weeks ago, she quickly became a favourite of the head who treated her poorly.

Locked away to starve till only her bones were showing. Her fingernails ripped off whenever they grew back and eventually her fingers were cut off. Punched, beaten and cut. She stopped screaming after the first week.

"Not going to say anything?" The head pulled down the hood that covered his face. His tattooed bald head and sinister smile showed the insanity in his eyes.

"I don't think she needs to say much." A voice called from the trees above. The regal tone caused the head and the guards monitoring Amara to look around.

"Show yourself." The guard said, drawing a weapon from inside his cloak. A simple-looking wooden spear.

"Don't." The head put his hand in front, stopping the guards as he stepped forward. "What do you want, vampire."

"My, my," Out from the shadows, a figure stepped. Dressed in a funeral suit, on the other side of the floor, keeping his distance. "You are stronger than you look, being able to tell where I am. Just like that scary man from before."

"You are in the forgotten continent, don't think it's as easy as that stupid little place you come from. What do you want?"

"Her." The vampire raised his finger and pointed with his long red painted nails. "I want that girl."

"She is to be sacrificed to our god."

"There are no gods." The vampire said, preparing to fight as he knew his words were sacrilegious.

"You'll be seeing one soon."

The head guard stood without a weapon or even his hands in front of him. The vampire looked with sweat pouring down his face, unable to make a movement.

"Not going to attack?" The head provoked. "Perhaps you are scared?"

"Shut up, I'm just thinking."

The vampire dived into a shadow from one of the many surrounding trees. The head's eyes darted around, trying to find him but quickly received a quick kick to the back.

"Cheap trick."

The head guard turned around but the vampire wasn't there. The same happened again, he got kicked in the back. The guards wanted to do something but the head ordered them to stay with the girl.

"I'll deal with this," he said, as he reached his hands into his cloak, pulling out a large halberd that he held up to the sky with one hand. The ends of its shining green-scaled covered tips dripped in purple poison.

"This weapon will be your end."

With a simple swing of the heavy weapon, the trees all shook. A large force blew them all back, ripping the leaves off their branches and revealing the entire area in sun.

"Wow," The vampire seemed shocked, "Certainly are strong, but you wouldn't want to make your god angry, would you?"

The head looked at the vampire who stood directly in his vision. He kept his eye on him as nothing seemed to be happening, but the sky above changed to darkness. The remaining leaves fell to the ground as something moved over them.

"My lord…" The head said as he looked up to see his scaly lord. Entrapping the area with its large green body that a satellite would easily pick up. With a body that could wrap around the entire planet, the large creature rested above them in tranquil silence.

However, in the head's moment of hesitation, the vampire had left with the girl.

He looked back up to his lord in shock, wanting guidance but she wasn't there.

"An illusion…" The head said collapsing to his knees. "That asshole! If he thinks he can show me that false god and get away with it then he's got another thing coming! After him! Chase him off this continent if we have to!"
