Chereads / The story of a hero named Fishy / Chapter 101 - Escape

Chapter 101 - Escape

The world is split into two, but possibly more.

The home continent and the forgotten continent make up the entire world. No one knows how big the forgotten continent is, and no one dares to find out. It could be one island, or it could be thousands of large country-sized islands.

The long night affects both continents. It's foolish to attempt to survive the long night on your own in the home continent, but it's suicide to try in the forgotten continent.

Darkness is where monsters live. The creatures that live in hell wake up and are fully awake for all 2 weeks of darkness. But, despite its difficulty, just like everything else, it isn't impossible.

The tribes that live in the forgotten continent are protected by the gods they worship. The Surni cult is protected by their goddess, Surni. With protection from these gods and goddesses, it's possible to survive on the forgotten continent.

And at this moment there were two currently waiting for the sun to rise. They were currently breaking the impossible, and surviving the long night by themselves.

These two had escaped from one of the largest and most deadly rulers on the continent, Surni, and were currently in hiding, waiting for the night to end so they could cross the deadly waters back to the homeland.

These two were the unlikely pairing of a vampire and an elf.

Two of the rarest races in the world. Two that were both on the verge of extinction, with most believing vampires went extinct years ago.

"How long do we have left…" Amara, the golden-haired elf, said as she sat atop a tall tree branch, unable to look at the fall that crawled with beasts below.

"Shouldn't be too long… The day will soon arrive."

The vampire stood atop the tallest tree in the forest. One with large green leaves that shielded the below-ground from all the crazy weather the continent experienced. Yearly downfalls, acid rain, volcanic eruptions. This one tree protected the ecosystem below.

"Hey, Natnif…" Amara spoke to the vampire, Natnif, as he smiled to the girl that called his name; as if he enjoyed the sound of people speaking his name.

"What is it?"

"Those cultists are going to ambush us…"

"Oh? Can you see it?"

Natnif, the gentleman vampire, jumped from the tall leaves, landing on the thick wooden room-sized branch Amara sat on.

"Not fully,"

"And you aren't lying just so I repair your amputated fingers?"

Amara lived a life as a slave, destined to be sacrificed. She lost her mind quickly, all her emotions shutting off as she sealed herself away. She had given up on life since first being turned into a slave, but she knew she had to keep a secret.

She wanted to die, and if the secret got out, people would do whatever they could to use her and keep her alive.

And that is that she can see the future.

No one knows how her visions work. Even she doesn't understand it. But, Natnif was well aware of all of this, and that was why he arrived to save her in the first place.

"What do I gain by lying? It's not like they can stop you."

Natnif smiled with one that seemed as if it was full of ecstasy.

"True," Natnif suddenly stopped, looking down at the world around him, "It seems those below are leaving… the sun is coming up…"

They wasted no time in hurrying along. The two of them leapt from treetop to treetop, jumping around to avoid whatever terrible terrain waited below.

Until they arrived at their destination.

A large ocean, further than any eye could see, curving around the world.

They reached the muddy side of the calm waves that gently splashed up against the dirt beach.

And slowly started walking along the bank, until they reached a tiny wooden ship. A steam-powered ship, made from little metal and mostly wood. It seemed as if it wouldn't survive any journey, but Natnif and Amara quickly jumped on without question.

The two of them started up the boat, using Natnif's magic to light the boiler and keep it running indefinitely.

They had begun their journey back home to the other land.

"I wonder how Gabriel is doing…" Natnif muttered, "There are too many people I need to catch up with…"

"Um… Natnif…" Amara called out from above, watching out across the horizon as she spotted several large white and red ships. Each ship was stripped by the green snake of Surni.

"I told you…" Amara said, still unable to smile or show any emotions on her punished face.

And standing at the front of the armada, was the man with the snake tattoo on his head. His large Halberd in hand, dripping in poison as his bloodlust reached far into the forest behind them.

They had created a wall, blocking Natnif from getting to where he needed to be. But that wasn't going to stop his hunger.

In the forgotten continent, surviving the Long Night is impossible unless protected by one of the 6 rulers.

But amongst them is one who dared challenge their throne, a so-called 7th ruler.

Everyone would laugh at him, calling him foolish.

But he was no man to boast.

As he was Natnif, the Vampire King.
