Chapter 91 - War Meeting

After Fishy and Vogef's public display, the two of them moved into Fishy's room, where they were sealed away from the outside.

The door was locked shut as guards stood outside, stopping anyone from sneaking in.

No one would be able to hear them.

"Let's start and be quick," Fishy said as he sat down on the floor, leaving the chair to Vogef, who almost broke it with his heavy armour.

"First, that man we saw in Va works for the Church of Heroes, I don't know what he wants, but I'm out for revenge."

Vogef didn't say anything and let Fishy continue, but sweat started to form as he was concerned for what Fishy was about to say next.

"That man had connections with Va's king, Dean. The man you saw earlier also works for them. We know very little about them, they were the only two members we knew about."

"You understand that what you just did would make you a target as well, they'd also come after you."

"I want them to come."

Vogef had seen Fishy at two ends of the extremes. He first saw Fishy near the time he first arrived into the world, filled with gleeful ignorance, but now he saw the Fishy he needed to be for the sake of the world, someone who was willing to take on the strongest for his goals.

"Very well…" Vogef said as he collapsed onto the ground, "Can I ask how you found all this out?"

"We've got some people undercover who are investigating where they can. I'm sure you are aware that we were even watching you. We've tried to dig up the history of the church, but that is one thing we can't. We even sent spies to investigate Birth, where the church is based, but we found very little, and most never returned. We've yet to send in another spy because of how dangerous it is."

"Birth is a holy ground, only royalty would be able to get in, even then, King Dean has never been himself."

"It seems to be a mystery as to what is actually inside, as the borders are far off. Just getting to the island was hard enough."

"Well," Said Vogef as he pushed himself up again, "There is no point in just waiting around. We best do something to kill time during this disastrous night."

Vogef casually walked away as Fishy looked at him, confused and uncertain as to how their meeting ended so quickly. He questioned what Vogef was going to do, wondering what the tank-like man would do for fun. And to his surprise, as Fishy was randomly walking around, he noticed Vogef helping out on the construction sites, digging up piles of dirt and moving large wooden beams.

The long night continued, with several more hours passing. Time didn't matter much, but it was 6 PM.

The executives of the city were all gathered around in the meeting hall, that had recently been closed off to the public. They all sat around the large pristine wooden table, that was engraved with symbols along its rims that depicted the cities founding. From The Destroyer nest underground to the Rynad visitors, the history of the village was engraved in front of them.

"This place is greater than I imaged," Vogef said as he joined the usual executives at the end of the table, sitting next to Ena who sat still with her arms crossed and eyes closed, almost as if she was sleeping.

"Thanks, we've come a long way since the start," Fishy said. "But that's not why I called us all here."

"What's the reason?" Clara asked as if she had something better she could be doing.

"It's about the church—" Fishy said, only to be interrupted by The Elder's dry coughing, which caused all eyes to go on him. But, their eyes would be diverted again, at the sound of a light tapping coming from the roof.

"It's raining…" Ziu said as he turned to look out the window, only the see true darkness that swarmed Fishy's flickering torch lighting, even the houses on the other side were unseeable through the pitch-black void that the rain brought with it.

"This is the rain the druids were dealing with since the start. They must be excited it's finally moved on." Clara said.

"The rain hit them the most, which is why we couldn't ask for their help, as for Rynad…" Fishy read a document in front of him that detailed the exchange between Fintan City and the Kingdom of Rynad.

The kingdom of Rynad supplied the city with a bountiful harvest at the start which was rationed, but now, almost halfway through, they were starting to feel the famine hit.

The meeting went silent as everyone thought to themself. The outside was filled with furious rain, crashing against the roof like hard rocks, whilst the inside kept as warm as possible thanks to a fire heater in the corner of the room.

It was cosy, and that was what Fishy had hoped it would be.

However, he didn't understand the true fear the rain created.

"Something seems to be messing with my sensory magic…" Fishy said as The Elder spoke through his croaky shrivelling voice.

"The rain has anti-magic effects during the long night."

"I see…" Fishy slumped his head onto the table, "Guess we wait till it goes."

It was peaceful ignorance as everyone smiled at each other, writing or drawing to pass the time, as there was nothing else they could do.

But, this peace was quickly ended, as suddenly...

At the far end of the room, from the wall that Fishy's back faced, a large explosion pierced through.

The explosion lit up the night, turning the city into day for a single flicker, but it quickly turned back.

The loud deafening noise and feared earthquake woke the village up as they all ran outside to see what had happened.

They ran over to see the meeting hall collapsed to the ground. All that remained was rubble as the rain put out the struggling fires that chard away the wooden supports.

Everyone could only look in horror as they feared their leader's condition.

All this happened in less than 10 seconds, and the worst night had just begun.
