Fishy would have died.
He hesitated as Lilith dashed towards him. He didn't react. He just watched as he died.
He couldn't move his body to dodge.
"You were too focused on the fact that you were about to die. You won't be able to help anyone when you are dead. But maybe you'd be remembered in someone's memories" Lilith pointed out as she jumped back without helping Fishy up from the bright floor that gave them both clear, defined shadows.
"Bloodlust is an effective method to stun your opponent if they underestimate you."
"I understand." Fishy stepped his right foot back for support as he watched Lilith closely. His arms were out in front of him with his fists tightly clenched, ready for the attack like a boxer.
"You don't understand." Lilith was already in front of Fishy, punching at the arms he used to try and block himself. Even though Fishy managed to block the volley of blows, one sudden powerful hit was enough to send him flying back into the void.
"Too many openings. You keep looking at your arms and not the attacks. You may have good durability but that durability isn't constant, your arms get stronger whilst your legs get weaker." Lilith critiqued, stretching her arms and legs as she watched Fishy climb off the ground, taunting him. "You may have natural talent, but you lack any form of real-world experience. People won't go easy on you. Make sure to learn from every fight we do here. I plan to keep you here until you beat me."
"I see…" Fishy pushed himself off the dry ground and tried again, but instead went on the offensive.
"Running head first without a plan will only get you killed." Lilith appeared again in front of Fishy. Her foot in line with his eyes, kicking him in the face before he could react, sending him back to the ground.
"Don't stop thinking!" Lilith screamed as she kicked him further into the cracked ground.
"Look for an opening!" She kept saying as she pulverised Fishy who was helpless on the ground.
"Be smart! Surprise them. Use that endless mana pool of yours" Lilith grinned as her pointy teeth showed in Fishy's eyes when a pillar of fire appeared underneath both of them.
"Clever, you have good magic resistance so it made sense to use a spell on yourself to get me off." Lilith jumped back as she watched Fishy climb off the ground.
"You're fast." Fishy panted, "But I think I understand."
"Let's see it."
The two of them ran towards each other. Lilith had already calculated when Fishy would be in front of her and was ready to hit him, except, miscalculated. As Fishy launched magic from his feet to propel him forward, arriving at Lilith before she even knew it.
His fist was in her face, but she had a plan and darted down into Fishy's shadow before the hit connected.
As instructed, Fishy didn't hesitate and created a large ball of fire directly above him. The ball pinpointed his shadow directly below him, shrinking it so Lilith could no longer stay inside.
"Smart." She said as Fishy absorbed the fireball into his hand.
"Thanks."
"Don't get arrogant, the battle has only begun."
The two of them continued to fight. They continued to fight in this void without rest for two weeks. They didn't know how much time had passed, but when they did leave, they knew the city was a mess and that Fishy had to go and save Clara.
