Gabriel.
A common name but one that belonged to the most powerful human. Someone who the old hero Fintan would have trouble fighting. The man who was head of the church of heroes.
This was who Gabriel was.
His power was unrivalled. His strength seemed endless and his magic was a mystery to most, but what made him even stronger, was that behind him stood an organisation that had the world trapped.
The human religion, the religion of the old hero, Fintan.
Every human worshipped them at a point. Some stories told of the hero slaying the dragons that rested on earth, allowing humans to inhabit the world. Other stories told of a female warrior named Fintan who slew 7 powerful demons that took the form of animals. The most common story was that they slew the undead king.
By killing the undead king, Fintan released humanity from being used by the devil and gave humanity true independence.
Of course, not everyone believes this.
Over time people began to think for themselves, other's called Fintan a villain and worshipped the undead king, whereas others refused to believe a human could ever possess such power and decided to worship the 7 animal royalties, the celestials.
It all depends on where you grew up.
If you were raised in any medium-sized city, you'd study Fintan and join the church. If you were something other than a normal human, be it elves, druids and even dwarfs, you'd worship the celestials. Those that were ruined by the world and forced to live their days as slaves and never see the sun turned to the undead king for hope. And those that struggled to survive, starving to death in a village that people thought would rot and corrode to dust, they would worship no one.
For Fishy, who came from a world filled with a variety of religions and beliefs, he personally doesn't believe in anything. Science in his world had converted him into believing that it was impossible, but he was currently in a world where the impossible happened in front of him.
His encounter with Gabriel was one that shocked him, he thought he was looking after two innocent girls, but led them to what he assumed were their deaths.
In a fit of rage that swallowed the city of Va and even reached his home city, he was knocked unconscious. Done so by the one he swore to protect, a small vampire who he took custody off, Lilith.
Her magic allowed her to knock him out swiftly, but eventually Fishy would awake from his sleep, and he did so with a headache. As if a bullet was resting gently against his brain. A sharp pain that welcomed itself in but showed no sign of leaving peacefully.
"What the hell…" He rested his head on his hand. Looking at the room he was in. A small compact cubicle-like room with only a bed and some dusty curtains that barely blocked the oncoming sun. He tilted his head slightly to the other side of the room and saw the metal bars that blocked from what seemed like an underground tunnel.
"Where am I?" He asked as the pain in his head returned, memories of Robin and Callie releasing their grasp from his hand filling his mind as his heart began to explode.
"Prison," Lilith spoke to Fishy through his mind, calming his heart with just reminding him that he isn't alone.
"Prison?"
"You woke up quicker than I expected. You were out for 5 days. Vogef and I both were out for 3. But, I thought you would be gone for at least a month wasting that much mana."
"What happened?" Fishy still couldn't escape the pain in his head.
"I'll explain," Lilith displayed an image in Fishy's head. A view of what Lilith saw at the events. After Robin and Callie left, Lilith continued to call out for Fishy, but having no option, she used her magic to transfer Fishy's mana to herself and Vogef in an attempt to calm him down.
"I caused you more problems… so much for protecting you…" Fishy's slump continued.
"It was problematic. It was too much mana for both Vogef and me so I had to transfer a lot of it into the earth. There were reports of earthquakes and several storms that show no sign of leaving because of it."
"I did that?"
"Without knowing." Lilith continued, "But they still arrested you. You used magic and extremely powerful magic and the king saw it as a threat, you are currently being held in the king's prison."
"What about Vogef?" Fishy stood up and gained his balance.
"He said he'll save us, I was supposed to report to him when you wake up. Just hold out a little longer Fishy, it'll all be ok soon."
"Did I do the right thing?" Fishy doubted himself, staring at the brick walls that surrounded his cell.
"I don't know, but I do know that he would have killed us all. He would have killed both his daughters there and us in a second and by not attacking now, we are given a chance to get stronger and fight back next time."
"I doubt that… I suspect they are already dead. He probably killed them when they resisted."
"You don't know that. You will never know that. But if you are going to be stupid and waste this chance to redeem yourself and save them then I'll just have to keep annoying you till you understand."
Fishy stayed silent. His mind was filled with the short memories of Robin and Callie. The smiles the two rarely showed were in his head, even if he thought it was stupid to keep believing, he decided to trust Lilith's words, and fight to give them eternal smiles.
