Chapter 1 - The Bryson Family

The Bryson family was considered to be one of the most respected families in their neighbourhood. Her father, Kevin Bryson was one of the topmost chefs in the state while her mother was one of the best lawyers in the whole country. They lived in New York with their American names. Though her skin and features were of her roots, Arielle was born in New York. She was the only daughter of the most sought-after couple and it's easy to say she inherited the best of both her parents, both in looks and intelligence.

She had a lot of attention on her since her childhood and hence she was always reminded of her parents' reputation and the effects on it based on her actions. So she grew up controlling her inner demons and wants to see her parents happy. She was content with the choice of becoming a doctor and planned on doing her PhD in criminal psychology. The interest in criminal psychology and her choice of taking up a PhD was not known to anybody. Her mother thought she did a good job keeping her daughter away from her criminal cases and was glad that she chose one of the most respected professions in the society-the field of medicine.

Arielle remembered her parents arguing about the possible dangers to their happy family because of a case that her mother was dealing at that time. She became interested in the details of the case and snuck into her mother's office at midnight after making sure both of her parents were sleeping soundly. Her parents knew of her interests in books so they made sure to gift her a room filled with the furniture required for a mini library and also the freedom to fill the racks with the books she wished. What they never knew was that after the night she snuck into her mother's office, Arielle built a small cabinet in her 'library' that was completely filled with books on criminal psychology and copies of all the cases she read in her midnight trips to her mother's office.

The following few days of the argument, tension prevailed in her otherwise peaceful atmosphere. She knew it very well but chose to remain silent. She plotted all those tension-filled days to go to California and investigate the matter further than her mother, although hers would be illegal. She convinced her parents and went to California on the ruse of spending some time with herself before going back to college. They agreed just because they thought she must not be involved in the tension of their arguments. They wanted to find a way her mother could investigate without putting her family in danger. And find a way they did, one that came with a heavy price.
