Some time passes before Jolon finally arrives to take me back. This time he is wearing the silver helmet issued to him by the Order. "Did you have fun?" He walks over kneels down and examines the body. "It only took one attack to bring her down? Looks like she didn't give you much of a fight."
"She was a worthy opponent however I wish she could have made me use my full strength."
"How long has it been since you had to go all out?"
"Far too long." I say as I finish the cigarette I'm smoking. "Unfortunately there are only a few who can push me that far."
"Listen Fenrir I want to discuss something with you before we head back." He pauses for a moment to stare at me thinking to himself about what to say next." I know what you did back at the market. The way you killed that man torturing him to death. You're becoming like your past self before you met me."
"You say that like it's a bad thing. That man deserved to die how I kill is none of your concern."
"Don't you see that you're becoming like them, the humans that you hate so much, who made this world the terrible place that it is."
"I've always been like this."
"No you haven't, I remember when you took me in and cared for me when I was on the verge of death. After you did that you stopped massacring villages and focused your efforts on protecting the things that you care about."
I stand up and confront him. "There is nothing else I care for in this world. After you went on your own the humans took everything from me, everything that I loved in this world. Why should I care about what I do to them?"
"Because you care about your own species and if your not careful it could put us all in danger."
"The human government already knows about us. Some of us will never stop killing and will be targeted by our own species who decide to join the humans. Either way, there will be a war."
Jolon takes a few steps to his right and sits down staring out into the distance. "There was a time I know you would have picked the other side to fight on. When you trained me you taught me the importance that all life was sacred. Caring for someone changed who you were, and losing everything changed you back to how you were before you met me."
I will admit that he is right about all of that. The fact is that this cruel world has made me into a monster, after what I've been through how can anyone expect me not to be one.
"I know what you're trying to do, but nothing will bring me back to what I was. Those days are over, the humans played with fire and they are going to get burned."
"I wouldn't be too sure about that. I've known you for a long time and I know you better than you know yourself. I want to help you as you helped me all those years ago to return the favor." He looks back at me with sadness in his eyes. "You want to be accepted by those around you, but in the end, you push them back never letting them get too close."
"Almost everyone that I care about is dead, everyone that I get close to ends up dying and no matter how strong I get I can't protect them." I say as hold back tears.
"Then don't protect them. Change this world for the better so they don't have to die."
"I'm done with this. Take us home so I can give them the details of my mission."
"Fine." He says as he stands back up. " But I want you to at least do something for me. I want you to take time away from the Order and train one of my apprentices."
"I don't mind taking time off work but you know I don't like to train others anymore. You were more like a one-time thing."
"Going on missions for them isn't doing you any good In fact it's probably making it worse. Trust me I know good will come of this all I need you to do is try. Besides she is a big fan of yours, I'm sure you'll appreciate all of the attention."
"She is a fan of mine? What exactly have you been telling her? You must have left out plenty of details for her."
"Don't worry about it. Besides you owe me a favor for helping you with your mission and don't worry about the mission report I'll tell them myself that your job was a success."
This is going to be frustrating. Training someone comes with plenty of headaches. I just hope that she is going to be better than Lapu, don't want something that happening again.
"Alright fine I'll do it." I say with a long sigh.
"Fantastic, trust me you won't regret it."
"If I do regret it I'll blame you for talking me into it. You do remember my training methods right? Does she know what she is getting into?"
"No she doesn't, but my training regiment seems too easy for her. She shows a lot of promise and your the only one I can think of that can push her to use her full potential."
"Usually the student is supposed to surpass the master, but apparently you didn't get that memo. What are you afraid to improve or even use my training methods on your students?"
"I just don't like subjecting my students to that level of training. I don't like seeing them get injured."
I see, even though he acts as a spy and an assassin for the Order, he still can't man up train his students like their life depends on it. I should have expected that he wanted something from me, he usually doesn't get sentimental.
"Alright let's get out of here."
"Sure." He says and he places a hand on my shoulder. In an instant, I find myself in a small camp within the forest with Jolon still standing beside me. The camp only consists of a fire pit and a few piles of leaves being used to sleep on.
"We just need to wait here until she comes back, she is probably off by herself practicing her abilities right now."
"You haven't told me her name yet."
"Oh, right I almost forgot. Her name is Fala, I guess I got too caught up in everything and forgot to tell you."
"Since we are waiting I should get some rest. It's been two long days in a row and I barely got any sleep last night." I lay down in a pile of leaves and try to get some shut-eye.
Out of the blackness, I hear the disembodied voice again. This time there are no surroundings just the sound of its voice.
"Just as I suspected, you can't help but keep killing humans. Your own selfish needs will be your downfall." It says.
"Can you at least give me a hint of who you are?"
"You haven't changed have you? You have always had this hatred in your heart ever since that fateful night."
"I still have no idea what you're talking about."
"You will in time, you will remember what you did to me. The events that transpired that day still haunt you."
I wake up panicking. What is going on why do I keep having a dream about this?
"Are you alright?" Jolon asks standing next to a tree in front of me.
"Yeah, just a bad dream I keep having."
"It's good that you're finally awake. Fala should be here any minute."
