The night was dark and mysterious. Two shadowy figures lingered near Sally Jackson's apartment. One of them was the lord of the skies. The other king of the seas.
"Poseidon you must. You know the risks that could be harmful if you don't." Zeus was saying. Poseidon looked sideways toward his brother.
"I know but they are both too important to me. I can't." He said trying to keep a straight face. But Zeus could see the worry in his brothers eyes.
"It must be done." Zeus said strictly. Poseidon sighed heavily and knocked on the door. A woman answered, her curly brown hair a mess her blue eyes gleaming.
"Hello how may I help you?" She asked but gasped when she realized who it was.
"Hello Sally." Poseidon said with a grim smile. He engulfed Sally in a warm hug, that made them both feel better. Zeus coughed.
"Mrs. Jackson we are here for the child." Zeus said promptly. Sally shook her head.
"No no please, I beg you, let them grow up together! " She begged. Now it was Zeus's turn to shake his head.
"Its too dangerous, two demigod children in the same house. We will have to take one of them and leave the other here. " Zeus explained. Sally slumped against the wall as the two gods walked into the living room. Two babies laid side by side, one was crying loudly while the other kept silent. Poseidon looked down at his children, his eyes sparkling with pride.
"A girl and a boy? I must be a lucky man!" He chuckled without emotion. Zeus pointed at the girl who wasn't crying. The sweet girl grabbed his finger and then slapped away. She gave him a hard stare, her eyes cold. Poseidon looked at his son.
"His name will be Perseus." He said smiling as he said it. Zeus snorted.
"You really have lowered your status, Poseidon. Naming your son after mine?" He snickered. Poseidon glared at him, his eyes holding the same coldness his daughters eyes had.
"My son will be the greatest hero Olympus has ever seen. My Perseus will be twice the man yours ever was. So I suggest you keep your trap shut about him." He whispered in a harsh tone. Perseus had cried even louder. Sally ran in with a bottle and held him to her chest.
Poseidon smiled at her. "His name will be Perseus and you can name our daughter." Sally thought before smiling.
"Madelyn. Madelyn Rose." She said. Her happy face turned to a sad one.
"Have you chosen which one will leave?" She asked her voice shaky. Zeus nodded.
"Madelyn will leave." Poseidon looked horrified.
"We didn't agree on that!" He exclaimed. Zeus rolled his eyes.
"Isn't it obvious? Your son needs his mother more than Madelyn. She hasn't even cried since we've been here." He said. Poseidon let the truth sink in.
"Yes it must be her." Zeus put his hand over the baby girls chest. A bright light shone but then reduced.
"There now she has my blessing." Zeus said. Poseidon gave Sally one more hug before holding his daughter.
"You two will meet when the time is right." He whispered to the twins. Perseus stopped crying and looked at his sister, as if he knew what was going on. The twins looked at each others eyes for the last time before Poseidon left the house.
The two gods arrived at a mortal house. Poseidon laid his daughter at the steps and left a note, telling the mortals what her name must be.
"I thought I'd never say this but I like your daughter. She is going to be a real warrior when she grows up." Zeus said. Poseidon sighed.
"Lets hope so." And with that he knocked on the door and him and Zeus returned to Olympus before the mortals opened the door.
Poseidon will just have to watch his twins grow up apart, until the time will finally come.

Maddie POV:
I swung my sword around carelessly, not even trying to train. I was already good enough I think. The Poseidon cabin was neat and organized, a huge surprise when it comes to me. As a Hood I'm filthy inside and out. Luke's words not mine. I sighed and looked out the window. Demigods scattered around fighting, slashing their bronze swords. I would normally be outside with them but Chiron told me to stay inside today.
"A wise soldier observes others mistakes before taking their own risks." He had said. The sunset burst a thousand colors across the dusk sky. I smiled at its beauty. A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts. My feet padded against the cold floor. As I opened the door I tripped, my brown hair falling in front of my face. I fell into the arms of someone, and I looked up to see my savior. A familiar face looked down at me, his blue eyes gleaming.
Luke.
"Hey Starfish, next time you want me to catch you, tell me before hand. I need to look my best." Luke said, smirking. I rolled my eyes and stood up, leaning against the door frame.
"Well there won't be a next time." I replied. Luke's smirk deepened.
"Sure about that?"
"No."
Luke laughed. "You're not wrong. Come on, lets go down to the beach." He suggested.
"Okay just let me get dressed." I said looking down at my tank top and shorts. Luke nodded before sitting down on the porch steps, playing around with his sword. I smiled at him once more before closing the door, and pulling on a hoodie. I glanced at my shorts before shaking my head. Luke won't care. We've known each other forever. While Annabeth has a crush on him and acts weird around him, he is my best friend. I fix my mess of hair before opening the door again.
"Ready." I announced. Luke smiled before putting away his sword.
"Why weren't you out today?" Luke asked, as we began to walk down the hill.
"Oh, Chiron wanted me to 'observe'." I said making air quotations, "Whatever that means." Luke shrugged.
"Maybe he wanted you to learn that sometimes watching is better than doing. But then again, Chiron always has his own reasons. Once he made me use a stick to fight. I lost in a second." Luke said. I laughed.
"Well that was probably fun." I snickered. Luke pushed me playfully.
"Hey, I challenge you to a stick fight." He said picking up a random stick.
"Now?" I asked.
"No better time than the present."
I raised an eyebrow. "Now you sound like Chiron." Luke chuckled, handing me a stick. I inspected it skeptically.
"Oh my gods Maddie its just a stick!" Luke exclaimed. I rolled my eyes and smacked him, playfully, on the arm.
"You never know. It could have some magical powers that I wouldn't know of because you said its just a stick!" I said. Luke shook his head.
"Lets play Lion." I said, running away from him. Lion is a game we have been playing since I was 7. Its when I run away from him and he tries to catch me like a lion catching its prey. Basically TAG but Luke and I didn't want to call it that. We wanted a game that was special to only us. I know we're a bit old now but it brings back memories.
Luke chased after me, and I ran down to the beach at full speed. Just as I began to see the water, two arms tackled me to the ground from behind. We both fell, and sand rushed onto my face. I could hear Luke laughing a few feet away as I got up. I spit some sand out of my mouth and brushed it out of my hair.
"Got ya again!" Luke laughed. I fake pouted, but soon I was laughing too. After we calmed down a bit, we laid down on the sand, shoulder to shoulder looking up at the stars. An old habit from when we would look up at the seashells painted on the ceiling in my cabin.
"Maddie you should laugh more." Luke said randomly. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.
"What do you mean?" I asked. Luke sat up on his elbow, peering down at me.
"I like it when you laugh. It shows that you have a heart and you just seem like you've been a bit down lately." He replied. I shrugged.
"Probably 'cause Chiron's been keeping me inside more." I said. "Unless I am a secret alien from space that doubts their existence."
Luke raised an eyebrow. "I'm pretty sure aliens don't run away from their foster houses 14 times."
I grinned. "This alien does." I said. Luke smiled before laying back down. We talked about swords for a bit while watching the sunset. It was nice.
Soon we had to go back to our cabins.
"G'Night Starfish." Luke said waving at me, as he began to walk to his cabin.
"Night Luke." I called back as I walked to my own cabin. I sighed as I shut the door. Tonight I had a great time with Luke, probably one of the best. Little did I know, this was the last night I would enjoy.
