Chapter 10 - The Lady Racer Takes The Charge!

●Lenox Avenue, New York city●

Renna grinned smugly and dusted off her hands, she was not a neat freak but perhaps the lady did that out of habit, whilst she noticed a few people staring at her jaw dropped in a daze, from afar. As soon as her eyes landed on them, the poor terrified souls scattered away immediately.

Of course no one wanted to stir a trouble with such a fierce lady, who had already knocked down two raucous young men single handedly, who fell under her claws unluckily and unknown of her identity they dared to talk back or else they would have crept down the drain nearby if they had an awareness about her, to hide themselves from Renna's penetrating deadly gaze.

'Huh, as if they got me, insolent ignorant brats!'

Renna was still light headed while the unscathed lady could imagine their faces, going purple with rage while those two men had spat venomously about Renna, cursing her inwardly as they staggered away barely keeping themselves up for a walk, stumbling a few steps.

"They wasted a lot of my time. I need to hurry now before it gets dark."

Renna had calculated the moments she needed to reach the destination, although the lady was back in the city after a long time, she still had a complete acknowledgement of every single thing, including how to tackle the problems of New York city.

She heaved a strenuous sigh and began to walk towards the cab stand which was at the end of the block, every step she took had a defined movement yet outwardly the lady seemed careless and an easy target to pick upon.

"To Raymond street B, sir. Would you bother to take me?"

The lady bent down over the window of the yellow cab, her sudden addressing startled the driver, who was keenly reading the newspaper, burying his half bald head into the folds of the newspaper.

"Whhaa, I don't have any money, please don't kill me. I really don't have any money."

The tin he was drinking crashed down into the brakes, spilling the liquid in the car. The old man must have mistook her for some thug because of the sudden intrusion which induced fright and frenzy condition within his body. Although, her pleasant voice wasn't scary to induce such terrifying emotions within anyone.

Of course, he was in New York city, sitting carelessly in a cab having window of his side open. The poor soul must have thought of being unlucky to halt there and got caught in the claws of bad luck, the old man raised his both hands in air as if he was caught under arrest by police, his eyes scrunched shut with a slightly shivering silhouette.

The newspaper had already slipped from his wrinkled hands and flew delicately landing in his lap, Renna found the sight quite amusing, clearly knowing what the poor had initially thought after her arrival.

"It is okay, sir. I mean no harm, just an ordinary customer, who wants a ride."

The poor soul opened his one eye in a peek as to confirm the words when a feminine voice pricked his ears, though one could not trust anyone in the New York city, even if it was male or female, having a hoard of thugs around in every street regardless any gender, on the top of it the bustling city was the den of the mafiya king, Ronan Ross.

"Phew! You scared the hell out of me, miss."

The man gasped for breath while he ogle the lady from head to toe, pitying the new generation inwardly, moreover he too, wondered the same thing as the earlier female employee of the fast food spot, as his popping terrified nerves near the temples became calm at once, he felt his as if his heart activity had continued again in the frail ribcage.

"I'm actually sorry about that, sir. I didn't know you were so immersed into reading that...ahh, nevermind."

Renna made a cute pout and wore over genuine smile, civilians never bothered her unless they really owed her something, the lady wanted to complete her sentence but refrained herself because it would have caused much embarrassment to the poor cab driver.

The lady was still hovering over the window, placing her right hand on the rubber 'pane' as she apologized and was still conversing with the cab driver, while standing outside the cab, leaning a little on the perfect level.

"It's okay, young lady. Get in, where do you want to go, destination?"

Renna straightened her back and moved towards the other side of the cab, the lady boarded the cab at once but unlikely to the usual thing, what the man had expected she preferred the front seat rather sitting at the back, another odd thing on her account.

The man didn't utter a single word rather something else was visible on his wrinkled face, a silence accompanying a shocked state in his oceanic blue eyes. Renna averted her gaze after fastening the seat belt and found the old chubby man staring at her blankly, with his bulging eyes wide open, mouth halfway hung loose.

"Oh, it's just I feel awkward sitting in the back, you know how quiet it gets like that."

Renna shrugged which caused a smile on the face of the old cab driver, the sharp and witty lady guessed it right away and correctly.

"As you feel comfy, young lady. First time in New York city, if I am not wrong?"

The man prepared himself to drive, picked up the tin and put it into the holder ahead of gear, as nothing could be done with the spillage as for at that time.

Renna replied to his casual question with a smile, the lady had settled herself in a relaxing position by tucking her right elbow to the window, and expanding legs comfortably.

"Yes, for getting a job. You know how hard it is now a days,  to struggle for two meals a day."

The old man stretched his hand and pulled out a breton hat from the dashboard and perched it comically on his head, tilted to one side.

"Ah, I see, yes, it is indeed. So, what is your destination?"

When the old man was all set to drive, he faced Renna.

"To Raymond street B, sir."

The driver placed the destination on the GPS system as Renna told, a red glowing arrow appeared on the screen.

The cab dusted off on the road with an initial screeching sound, while Renna was about to drift into some memory, that brought a glum expression on her face, the old man questioned her once again while his eyes were professionally glued to the smooth charcoal road.

"Living alone here?"

"Ah, yes, arrived today and need a house to rent. That's why I'm going to Raymond street."

Renna filled the driver in with a few bits of information, but still the lady knew how to remain insulted to the people regarding her identity and purpose of arrival.

"Oh, I know a few people living around the street C, maybe I can be of help. Let's see what I can do."

Renna's face beamed with an unknown joy, finally she didn't have to wander around a lot to have a shelter which was her basic necessity at that moment.

"Thank you so much, sir. It is indeed nice of you."

"Aye! It is no biggie, you are new in this city and as a good citizen I should help you."

The words brought a bitter smile on her beautiful face, something unsaid and restless remained there, inside her troubling self.

Renna became occupied with some thought, but soon the  activity of her mind was interrupted with the old man's confused yet anxious remark.

"Why is there a car behind us, are they chasing?"

Renna shifted the direction of the side mirror to adjust, and saw a car behind theirs, sure it was chasing them.

"Fu*k those as*holes!"

She could recognize those two men who had earlier picked up on her, one of them was driving recklessly by overtaking the cars to reach her.

"Sir, would you mind giving me the charge?"

Renna held the steering with a lopsided grin, the lady was determined now to teach them a real lesson.

"What?"

The old man became quizzical, unknown of the dangerous situation he had gotten himself into, with a fierce lady racer!

"I will drive now, get in the back seat and stay low, sir. Let me handle this."

The lady instructed and the chubby man slipped himself into the back seat by crossing over the gear whilst Renna held the charge of the steering as she jumped into the driving seat at once, thumping her foot on the 'race'.

A lopsided grin appeared on her face as she shifted her hazel orbs to the side mirror, she wanted to stay low key during the execution of her plan but it seemed impossible now, when the fiasco was ready to pounce on her, the fool thugs had brought the wrath upon themselves!
