Chapter 13 - 13 Ride Home

Lilli didn't know where she was going, only that she was in a car with someone who was familiar for some reason. Too drunk to do much, she looked out the car window and saw houses going past her, the only sign of life being the porch light illuminating the dark night. She looked to her right and saw a man driving, both of his hands on the steering wheel and and a strand of hair in front of his face. Not thinking, she reached up and pushed the strand to the side of his face so that he wouldn't be distracted by it. He looked over at her, his green eyes softening as he did.

"Thanks," the man said, and smiled at her, then returned his eyes to the road.

Just then, they pulled into her house and parked. The man got out, and that's when she realized who he was; Daniel. He opened her car door and gently picked her up bridal style, noting that she was dozing off and probably couldn't walk. He carried her up to the front door, and after realizing that her house was locked, looked down at Lilli.

"You wouldn't happen to know where your house key is?" He asked, hoping she had one on her.

She sleepily pointed down at a pot of orchids sitting next to her door and said, "Under them."

Daniel squatted down and tilted the pot up, and saw a silver key lying there. Picking it up, he unlocked the door and carried her in. He looked around her home, and wondered if he should set her on the couch or go and find her bed. Deciding on the bed, since she could get uncomfortable on the couch, he walked through her living room and searched for her bedroom. The first room he checked he saw a kitchen, and noted how clean and organised everything was. He then moved on to the next room, and opened the door to her bathroom. Knowing that the last door had to be it, he opened the final door into her bedroom. Laying her down onto the bed, he took her shoes and jacket off and covered her with the blanket. After making sure she was comfortable, he turned around and started to walk out.

"Thank you," he heard, and felt a hand grab his. Looking back, he saw Lilli looking up at him a small smile on her face. She closed her eyes, and her hand fell down beside her. A grin appeared on Daniel's face. After that he left her home, making sure to lock the door and return the key. He also left a note on her kitchen counter for when she wakes up so she knows what happened. He drove back home, thinking back to how she looked holding his hand and thanking him. Daniel shook his head, he shouldn't be thinking about that.

"Jesus, snap out of it," he said to himself, then walked into his house and collapsed on the bed, exhausted from the night.
