Chapter 18 - "We Won't Let That Happen!"

"I'm going to miss you so much," Sara said, hugging Grace affectionately while pulling her to the side. "What the heck is going on? I thought you hated her?" Sara asked with a frown.

"I do?" Grace asked, raising a brow curiously.

Zoe, who had been returning from the ladies' room where she went to ease herself, overheard the whispered conversation between Grace and Sara.

"Your accident must have messed up your head if you don't remember this much. She's engaged to the guy you love. What is wrong with you? Don't tell me you're trying to practice that keep your enemies closer stuff," Sara said while smiling at Ann, who was still waiting for Grace.

Ann smiled back even though she could randomly guess a number of things Sara was possibly saying to Grace, but she wasn't bothered by it.

So Ann really liked Wang Tae-Joon? That was okay with her. It was even more than okay with her. She didn't care about Tae-Joon after all, so she was just going to encourage Ann to win his heart.

Wouldn't it be just beautiful and perfect if he actually fell in love with Ann, and then she got to dump him after returning to her body? That would be classic. Grace thought with a smile as she patted Sara's back. "Yea, I want to keep my enemies close."

"I'm ready to leave now," Grace said to Ann immediately after she returned to the table with Sara.

"What took you so long, Zee?" Ann asked Zoe.

"Sorry for keeping you waiting. We can leave now," Zoe said without taking her eyes off Grace. If this wretched lady thought she was going to let her take advantage of her sister, then she had another thought coming.

Grace would have been amused had Zoe been treating someone else in that manner, but at the moment, she wasn't amused since she was at the receiving end of Zoe's hostility. Who could she blame for it other than herself? Besides, Zoe was only being protective of her elder sister. Grace reminded herself wearily.

"Sara, you don't have to worry about Ann. I will make sure she is fine," Ann said, reassuring Sara as they stepped out.

Grace waited for her driver to open the car door for her but frowned in disappointment when he simply walked past her to open Zoe's door. Ann simply gave her a knowing smile before sitting inside the car.

"Where are we going to?" Grace asked Ann politely, even though the real question she wanted to ask Ann was whether or not she had rented the apartment she had asked her to rent.

"We are going to my house. There are so many guest rooms in my house, so you can just take one," Ann said before looking outside the window.

"Dad isn't going to like that," Zoe told Ann in a whisper.

"Don't worry, Zee. I already talked to Dad about it. She'll be with us for some time before we get her an apartment of her own," Ann told Zoe.

Grace wasn't sure how she was to feel or react. Being a stranger under her own roof wasn't something she was looking forward to, but at the very least, it was better than living in poverty.

The driver stopped in front of the house a while later, and they all stepped down from the car. "You're welcome to my home Ann. I really hope you'll be polite to the household staff. My parents will love you, I'm sure," Ann said with a smile as she walked into the house with Grace following behind her.

Grace couldn't describe exactly how she felt stepping into her own home but being a stranger, her mother, who was sitting in the living room on her favorite chair, simply gave her a fleeting glance before bestowing her attention on Ann. "My babies are back! How was your day, darling? How're you feeling now?" She asked Ann with a radiant smile.

"I feel much better today," Ann said, smiling genuinely for the first time as she took her seat beside Mrs. Jiang.

"Who is that young lady over there? Don't tell me you got us a new househelp," Mrs. Jiang said cocking her head in Grace's direction.

"Oh yes! I almost forgot this is Ann. She is my new personal assistant," Ann said with a smile.

"Come over and say hi to my mother, will you?" She asked Grace.

Grace could literally feel her heart breaking, and she suddenly felt like she was choking as tears formed in her eyes. Maybe this was a bad idea.

"Personal assistant? You always said you never wanted one, so why now? And even if you did want one, you can do better than this. She isn't polished enough to be your personal assistant," Mrs. Jiang said, shaking her head in disapproval. "Is your father aware of this new development?" She remembered to ask.

"Yes, he is. And she is going to be living with us until I get her a suitable accommodation," Ann said, ignoring the insult to her body.

"What? You want this--- this person living under the same roof as us? Can you see her hair? Look at her eyes. Which slum did you pick her from? How do I know she won't murder us in our sleep?" Mrs. Jiang asked, making Grace roll her eyes inwardly. Her mother was definitely overdoing this thing.

"You're being rude to my guest, which is totally unacceptable!" Ann snapped at Mrs. Jiang before leading Grace up the stairs.

Mrs. Jiang was taken aback by Grace's attitude. This accident must have really affected her head badly for her to be behaving in the most unlikely way.

Zoe, who had been silently observing everything, walked over to her mother. "She is acting really strange, right?" She asked her mother.

"The accident must have affected her more than we thought, but it's a good thing she is no longer saying she is someone else," Mrs. Jiang said with a worried frown.

"I don't like her new personal assistant, she has a foul attitude, and I fear she might want to take advantage of Grace and push her around," Zoe complained without telling her mother about the conversation she had overheard.

"Take advantage of my daughter? We won't let that happen!" Mrs. Jiang promised. She was going to have to keep her eyes on that young lady... if she so much as raised her voice on her daughter, then she would have no choice but to deal with her.
