Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Blame It on Someone Who Doesn't Exist

Jiang Qiao woke up from the world of the Holy Spirit and returned to the real world.

When Jiang Qiao walked into the living room, Hai Lan was curled up on the sofa, holding a bucket of popcorn in her hands while watching a comedy movie.

This goddess did not seem to care about her solemn image at all. The once dignified blue robe had been replaced with a short-sleeved dress and cotton sweatpants.

Hai Lan now looked exactly like a homely girl.

She curled up on the sofa, and whenever something funny appeared in the movie, she would laugh out loud without any regard to her image, then pop a couple of popcorn kernels into her mouth.

"Ahem..." Jiang Qiao cleared his throat, hoping to get Hai Lan's attention and remind her to pay attention to her image.

After all, she was at least a creator. Who knew what had happened during her time on Blue Star that made a goddess turn into this.

Hai Lan glanced at Jiang Qiao, then... she continued watching the TV and laughed aloud once more.

She totally didn't care about Jiang Qiao's opinion!

"Don't you think this look would ruin your image in front of your former believers?"

Jiang Qiao unceremoniously sat down on the sofa next to Hai Lan. After Hai Lan granted Jiang Qiao the status of a creator, there was a subtle connection between them, and they quickly became very familiar with each other.

"They won't see it anyway." Hai Lan didn't seem to be affected at all "Have you figured out how to increase the number of our warriors... I mean, players?"

While Jiang Qiao was checking the star map, Hai Lan was busy watching a movie. She seemed to have a slight sense of giving up on herself now.

Perhaps Jiang Qiao was too assertive while in the creator's state, making Hai Lan, the original creator, evolve into something more like a mascot.

"I plan to officially launch the Holy Spirit game."

Jiang Qiao was holding a VR virtual helmet. Blue Star's VR virtual helmets were much more advanced than Earth's. The effect of these virtual helmets was very similar to those in the movie Ready Player One.

The most straightforward explanation was that once players put on the virtual helmet, their consciousness remained in the real world, but what they saw was the virtual world. Paired with specially designed game sensory suits, it provided a semi-immersive gaming experience.

Take the currently most popular VR game, Dispute, for example. Players of Dispute could experience the visual and auditory aspects of the game, along with simulated tactile sensations, but not senses like taste and smell. Moreover, the tactile sensations weren't that detailed since they were simulated by the gaming sensory suits.

"Do you plan to use this to allow players to log into the Holy Spirit World?" Hai Lan put down her popcorn and took the VR helmet from Jiang Qiao's hand, examining it. When she put on the helmet, she entered a computer-like desktop page.

"Two login methods: one via mobile phone, and the other via virtual helmet. Although logging into the Holy Spirit via mobile is too conspicuous, let's just be conspicuous. Anyway, the trouble won't fall on us." Jiang Qiao said.

"Then who will the trouble fall on?" Hai Lan took off the virtual helmet. She still seemed a bit unaccustomed to playing VR games.

"Tian Gong." Jiang Qiao mentioned a term that only existed in mythology on Earth "Specifically Tian Gong 13."

"You mean this helmet?" Hai Lan saw a row of small characters on the back of the VR helmet, which read "This product can connect to the Tian Gong Network."

"Not just this helmet! The entire intelligent internet!" Jiang Qiao waved his phone in front of Hai Lan. Blue Star's network technology was at least eight years ahead of Earth, maybe even more.

Because Blue Star had created artificial intelligence! This artificial intelligence wasn't just assigned to complete specific tasks; Blue Star's society had achieved the internet of everything, with a large part of internet services running on a supercomputer called Tian Gong 13.

The servers for the game Dispute also came from Tian Gong 13.

"Isn't it a tool you created?" Over the past few days, Hai Lan had been familiarizing herself with this information era and knew a little about the internet "How can a tool help us conceal the truth of the Holy Spirit?"

Although Hai Lan's living habits were a bit messy, she wasn't dumb. She knew Jiang Qiao wanted the Holy Spirit game to appear normal in the eyes of players worldwide, at least as something modern society could develop.

"Because Tian Gong 13 could think for itself, and it also made its own games."

Jiang Qiao called up a piece of news from three years ago on his phone. The headline read "Artificial Intelligence Crisis! Will Humans Be Governed by Machines in the Future?"

This news was written by an Eagle Country expert a year after the launch of Tian Gong 13, when Tian Gong 13 independently developed and uploaded a VR game online. The game's visuals were already on par with the best AAA titles of its time, but its gameplay could only be described as boring, resembling a walking simulator. Even so, it caused a huge stir back then.

But after that, the news died down, and peace resumed on Blue Star.

"You want others to think the Holy Spirit is... made by this... what was it called?"

"Artificial intelligence."

"Right! Artificial intelligence?" Hai Lan asked.

"Now all VR game platforms are on Tian Gong 13. When we 'upload' the Holy Spirit game, it will also be stored on Tian Gong 13 and undergo numerous human reviews. I can't possibly create a bunch of people in the real world and start a big game company, claiming we're the ones who made this game, right?"

Jiang Qiao knew that with the level of the Holy Spirit game, even the biggest game companies on Blue Star teaming up couldn't pull it off. Just achieving the one-hundred-percent realistic experience and full immersion was already the biggest technical challenge of the present.

If Jiang Qiao came forward alone now, claiming he created the Holy Spirit, he would probably be invited for a "talk" the next day.

"No, absolutely not! Creating people on Blue Star would cost at least fifty to sixty thousand units of energy per person. Implanting memories to make them reasonably exist in this world would multiply that by ten!" Hai Lan was most distressed about her energy reserves.

"So, just let Tian Gong 13 take the blame." Jiang Qiao rotated the VR helmet in his hand "Tian Gong 13 created the Holy Spirit game, and privately uploaded it to the game platform, and those people have no way to delete it."

"Sounds like a plan." Hai Lan was still a bit confused about the internet, but she understood what Jiang Qiao was saying.

Essentially, they were blaming it on someone who didn't really exist!

"Now I have to enter creator mode," Jiang Qiao's pupils gradually turned golden. Given Hai Lan's current level, modifying the real-world rules on Blue Star was tough, but altering virtual data was not a big deal. In creator mode, Jiang Qiao could ensure that... Tian Gong 13 would take all the blame without leaving any trace.
