"What is a gun?" Jacob asked.
The little princess just looked up at him and smiled. "Something that will change the world. Do you have any explosive powder?" She asked.
"Explosive powder?" Jacob asked. He had no idea what little Luna could possible be asking about. In their world science did not advance since magic existed. IF they needed fire there was magic, water also magic. They had no need for chemistry and no need to advance science. "I have never heard of anything like that." Jacob responded.
"Well damn!." The little princess let out with a yell. "I guess the gun will have to wait for now."
Just then the king and his advisor Jeremy entered the room. "So how did it go?" Asked the King while he looked around the room. He noticed all the crossbows that had been gathered. "Seems like it went really well! Bravo Jacob! Bravo!" The King was ecstatic and slappingJacob on the back fairly hard.
Jacob stubbles forward by the force of the blows. "Couldn't have done it with
Luna's help, your majesty!" Jacob said while he steadied himself.
"Well that's my daughter for you!" The King said while bending down to pick his little girl up. "There is nothing she cannot do!" The King turned his attention to his child. "Luna dear why don't you head on to bed. Let us adults worry about the rest."
"Ok Daddy!" Luna gave him a hug and ran off as soon as he put her back down.
"Ok now that she's gone. Do we have everything we need?" The King asked.
"With these completed weapons, you need only give the word." Jeremy responded to the king.
"Let's do it then, let's save that village." Said the King.
Out at the village, evacuations were underway. The soldiers were moving the citizens out to a secured area about a mile away from the village. After the task was completed there was a sense of uneasiness throughout the abandoned village. Soldiers were beginning to question the merits of this plan. They had been told it was thought up by the young princess. Even the weapons they were told to use came from the mind of a child. None of them would dare speak ill, however, they knew the King would not tolerate any suggestion that the princess could be wrong.
Hours passed. The impending horde of demons were coming. The soldiers just had no idea when. There was a chill in the air and all there was, was silence. The moon had cast shadows across the village, adding to the creepiness of the situation, and then it happened. An eire orange glow could be seen over the horizon, it was the fires from the demons torches.
The demons thought that they were advancing on a helpless village in the middle of the night. They had planned to attack while the humans were sleeping to make it easier to capture. Even though the humans fought with a sense of honor the demons felt no such restrictions. They often laughed at how badly the humans were at war, how they would all just line up to die. Constant years of victories had emboldened the horde, they had no fear when facing the humans.
Tonight would prove to be much different from them though. For the humans had a plan. Using the tactics given to them by the princess, they were prepared. In every shadow behind the buildings soldiers were hiding. They had painted their armor black so that no reflections of light would show. They even wore their face guards so that every bit of them would be black as the night.
The horde entered the village without a care, so much so in fact that there commander was leading the charge. This village had but one entrance as soon as the last demon cross the threshold the trap was sprung. The mages in the company created a firewall blocking the only escape. The demon commander was confused by this sudden wall of fire behind him. As he turned to look at it an arrow pierced him between the eyes. As he fell to the ground the demons around him were in a panic. One by one they were being picked off. "What is happening!" One demon cried out. "Oh lord what are these attacks!" The demons had never seen an arrow before and now the arrow was laying waste to their ranks. "We need to retreat!" Another demon said right before an arrow did him in. The panicked demons ran to the entrance where the wall of fire stood. They were completely unafraid of the fire since demons were extremely resistant to magical attacks. The fire however was just a trap as well. As soon as the demons crossed through the blaze they were struck down by a firing line on the other side.
Not a single demon survived the night and not a single soldier was lost. This had never happened in the history of warfare in the world. Humans sometimes won the battles, but always at a heavy cost. Never had they had such a complete victory. "Our princess is the best!" One solider shouted out, overcome with emotion. All their fears had vanished and they now had complete faith in their little princess. "Send a messenger! Inform the king of our victory!"
Meanwhile back at the castle, the King and Jeremy were having a discussion. "I do so ever hope my dearest Luna's plan works, Jeremy." The king said.
Jeremy had serious doubts that a six year olds plans or weapons would be effective in a war that had been fought for generations. Doubts he would never dare bring up to the king. He saw what the King did to the last person that questioned his daughter. "I am sure it will be fine your majesty." Jeremy replied to the king. "We should start shoring up the castle's defenses though, just in case." Jeremy paused for a moment to give the King time to think about what he had said.
There was no answer from the King, only a sad stare into the fire place that was in the room. The awkward silence continued for some time, until the door burst open. "Your Excellence! I bring news of the battle!" The messenger yelled out unable to contain himself.
"Yes, Yes tell me how did my little Luna's plan work?" The King asked. "Did we save the village? Was it a success?"
"Yes Sir!" The messenger yelled back "All demons were executed and we did not lose a single solider! It was a complete victory."
The King fell into his chair, in shock of what he just heard. He expected, or at least hoped, that Luna's plan would be successful. But he never dreamed that it would go so well. He had never knew the words complete victory existed. "Your majesty?" The solider asked. "Are you ok?"
The King was so happy and so full of pride he could not even begin to explain. "Yes, I am just so proud of my daughter. She has done more at six then I have done in my entire rule as King." The King turns to the soldier. "Tell the men that when they return to the castle we shall have a feast!"
"Yes sir!" The messenger bowed and left the room.
"Jeremy are you ok?" The king asked.
Jeremy had just been standing there, speechless. He was completely dumbfounded that a six year old girl had achieved something that no human had ever achieved, a complete victory over the horde. Hearing the King's words snapped him out of his stupor. "Oh yes, your majesty. I just cannot find the words to describe how wonderful your daughter is."
"I have that very problem every time I look at her Jeremy!" The King responded. "This though, this is really big. The whole kingdom must know of my daughter's achievements!" With that word of Luna's deeds spread far and wide, and the Legend of Luna the genus princess had begun.
