Chapter 9 - City Market

Just as the firewall was about to hit Zara, his mother, Lennie, who was sitting beside her, pinched her fingers, and a blue-colored shield-like translucent membrane appeared around both of them.

As the fireball collapsed with the shield, it instantly dispersed, leaving behind strokes of steam for the aftermath.

"Kaitlyn, don't go overboard."

"Overboard? Well, then why don't you tell this to your sweet little daughter, Lennie. She does nothing but harasses my brother. And now she is doing it up and over. What don't you teach her some manners?"

"Kaitlyn, mind your words. I know what I should teach and what I should not. You are in no way to bother about something like that." Lennie replied, and after giving her a low glare, continued, "But you are attacking her out in the open. Is this the manners that you were taught, girl?"

"You-"

"It's enough. Both of you sit down and complete breakfast."

Interrupting Kaitlyn, our father - Alistair, voiced out to cool down the situation. His voice was deep and with a lot of force making you submit and no way to refuse, which resulted in a groan from Lennie but nothing more. Kaitlyn also gave both the mother and daughter a deep stare as she took her seat once again.

As for me... well, I was too shocked by seeing my sister cast a fireball out of thin air that. So much so that I nearly wet my pants and thanked the heaven that I was sitting along with her and not the opposite.

I was amazed that Kaitlyn, who was a trainee wizard, could do pull off such a trick right off the bat. I broke out in cold sweat, thinking what an official wizard could do - such as the male sitting in the middle of the dining table, my father.

"Alex, I have something important to tell you."

Just as I was thinking about the prowess of my father, he called me out, giving me a surprise.

"Today there is a small celebration in our castle. And you must attend it. Understood?"

I hesitated. First of all, I am not Alex, so a slight misstep from my side could expose me. And another was that I felt a dangerous omen whenever Alistair's eyes would cast on myself. My whole body let out goosebumps when he did.

In spite of all the reasoning to decline the invitation, I don't think that he would have liked my refusal. After all, who would take 'no' as an answer from trash like me? It would surely anger them, right.

So, I did what the most obvious thing to do was. I nodded my head in acceptance.

"Hm. Be there after the sunset."

He said nothing more and the rest of the breakfast went as usual, or rather peaceful.

After breakfast, I chatted with my sister, Kaitlyn, and left for my room. I wanted to gain more knowledge about myself, and I thought that accessing the library would be an excellent option to enrich my experience of this world. So I planned to ask Lilah for the location.

But not all your plans are a success.

When I entered my room, my sweet little maid, Lilah, was nowhere to see.

'It seems like she was too embarrassed about our morning. She should have talked with me before leaving at the very least.' Alex thought.

It was then that his sight fell over to a note lying on the bed where Lilah was sleeping. Getting closer to his bed, Alex's face broke down into an excited smile as he read the letter.

'I will be back at night to deliver desserts to master. I am sure that the master will like it as much as he did in the morning.'

Alex's heart skipped for a moment as his thoughts for future action played into his mind.

Shaking his head, Alex chided himself, "What am I doing? The previous owner of this body was already a playboy, and now I am starting to share his line of thoughts. I should instead focus more on how I should survive in these troubles."

Taking some time, he came with an alternative plan of action.

Alex called in another servant and asked him for some information as he left the castle.

His thought process was straightforward. He believed that the market condition was the best proof of the stability of the city. And a group of towns together made an impact on the imperial capital, which stood at the center of the nation.

He was right as in this world, each citizen needed to pay some form of tax to the city lord mansion every month. Likewise, a specific amount was to be transferred from each city to the imperial capital, which controlled the overall functioning of the nation.

Alex had gone through the talent awakening ceremony. And although he became a chosen one and could become a wizard, it was next to impossible for him to become one.

It was because of the simple fact that he had no talent affinity. It meant that there would be no inborn talent with the natural elements, and hence his path of a wizard was bound to be a dead one.

The mother and daughter pair - Lennie and Zara too had no talent and had the fate of remaining a trainee wizard their whole life, which is part of the reason that they hate her sister, who seemed to possess a bright future. But they had the backing of their father, Alistair, who was a powerful wizard himself.

On the contrary, Alex and Kaitlyn had no one to rely on. And this made things difficult for the brother and sister duo.

It was because of this that Alex thought of supporting his sister. He was a successful businessman in his previous life and hence, had excellent market knowledge.

He thought that since his sister has a talent to become a wizard, then as her brother, he could at least support her with all the material and supplements that could potentially help her in the path of a wizard.

As he was about to reach the city market, he heard a female scream coming out form his right.

He saw a chubby girl with neck length, sky blue colored hair being harassed by a pair of hooligans. Alex was directly attracted to her onyx eyes, but her obese body and the worry on her face did not notice it.
