She reached out to pull the blanket.
"I'm tired," she said softly, "Let's rest, I don't mind you sleeping beside me."
Zaiden Santos smiled.
As if compelled by some unseen force, he lowered his head and kissed her forehead.
The warm kiss was gentle and brief, like a dragonfly skimming the water.
In that instant, Ann Nolan froze, incredulously looking at him with wide, sparkling eyes.
"Go to sleep," Zaiden Santos said as he pulled the blanket over her, casually, "I'll join you in a bit."
"Okay," Ann Nolan didn't argue further with him, glanced at him, then closed her eyes.
He looked indeed very tired, with fatigue evident in his face and eyes, as if he had just rushed back from City Z.
She wondered if Harper Glorian had called him; it must have been the case, otherwise why would he have returned.
Perhaps Harper Glorian had also told him something else, but Ann Nolan no longer wanted to guess.
Let it be what it will be.
