Chapter 8 - CHESS

Raul suddenly felt something strong hit him in the back. It was a water bomb. It collided with his strong fire energy and turned to gushes of steam and by the time it settled down, Tyde Voda had disappeared. Raul inferred that she had hidden away the water bomb in the fountain. So that's what she was making while distracting him with the water jets.

Gaga who had reached there by then found his Lord laughing and drying himself.

When they reached back home, Raul demanded information on the Vodas.

Raul flipped through the files that Gaga had given him.

ARES VODA, 27, son of late LORD JEREMIAH VODA, AND LADY REGINA ARBEIZZY, ..... lives with Lady Regina at xx manor, xy county...

TYDE VODA, 21, daughter of late LORD FERDINAND VODA AND late LADY KATHLEEN KAZBECK.....

....lives at cc mansion, xy county...

Raul went through the information on their businesses and assets and closed the file.

" Is it just a bar fight, or do they have something against us?" asked Raul looking at Gaga.

" That my Lord, it is just an allegation.." said Gaga "The Vodas claim that the Adaras have illegally acquired some of their businesses."

" Blaming us for their ruin are they?" said Raul looking at Gaga, " or could it be that you believe it too?"

" Certainly not my Lord." said Gaga.

"That's good then." said Raul.

"What have you been up to my Lady?" Agatha nagged all the time she was treating Tyde's wounds.

" You know how these fractures are like scratches for us nobles." said Tyde looking at Agatha's pained expression.

If I became dead meat, what kind of expression would she make, thought Tyde.

Yes, that was close. Did it all not stem from a bar fight? That person whom Ares picked a fight with must be an important person in the Adara family, for their head to personally interfere. Because things had gone this way, it would be better not to tell Ares, unless she wanted the Vodas to go extinct.

Should she go away somewhere, and wait for the Adaras to cool off? They were of the fire clan after all. Tyde smiled thinking about the pun.

" My Lady, I do not see anything to smile about. Don't tell me you were fighting another noble?" asked Agatha looking at her suspiciously.

" Oh rather, I met a handsome man today," said Tyde. From her childhood, she had learned that the best way to cover up something is by exposing another fact that might interest the listener.

Agatha was immediately interested.

" He reminded me of Father." said Tyde.

" He reminded you of our late Lord?" asked Agatha quite taken in."Was he strong and kind?"

Yes certainly very strong, thought Tyde. She must avoid him at all costs.

Her father had taught her two things when she was still a kid, one was how to make an unbreakable barrier and another was how to play chess..but she had discovered today that her barrier was not enough to protect her against really strong nobles.

" Ask Paul to play a game of chess with me tonight." she told Agatha. Paul was the only person around her who was good at chess. She had to beat him tonight to regain some of her confidence.
