Jonathan Alepou's POV
I was rolling my eyes when Emily was laughing at me. Then some of the patrons were looking at us as Emily was snorting. It was kind of cute and I liked it. I never saw her being so carefree with her laughter but tonight, she did.
And I think I wanted more of it as well.
"Wait, you're serious? About that proposal?" She asked as she was wiping the tears that came out of her eyes. Her sea-green eyes with the thick black lashes were to die for to stare at. I can stare at it all day and I never get bored.
Her black, straight hair was flowing behind her back before her face was flushed with blood from the laughter. I don't think she was thinking that I was serious about it.
"Yes, why do you think that I was pulling your leg?" I asked her before she shook her head. Emily cleared her throat before she pulled her hand out of my grip. I missed that touch already.
"Okay, first of all, I don't believe it. Second, you're my friend. My best friend. And best friends don't marry each other." She said as I was getting irritated by her right now. Then I was playing my wild card.
"Okay, I will treat you and show you that we can work it out. And at the end of the day, you will see that I was right all along," I said as I was looking at Emily. She arched her eyebrow at me as I was smirking at her.
"Okay, if you say so. If it worked out between us, I will say yes to that proposal and we get off from there. And if we don't…" she said as she was looking at me. I arched my eyebrow to hear her solution.
"You will seek someone else to marry you then," she said before something was flashing in front of her eyes. I smiled inwardly as I know that the thought of me with someone else sickened her. It sickened me as much.
"Okay, you have a deal. Shake on it?" I asked as I was handing out my hand. Emily looked at it before she took it. Electric was coming alive in my body as Emily flushed. Well, at least I was not the only one that was being possessed by the demons in my body.
I signaled for the waiter to get our orders. We get something that was not too heavy and we don't want to get too drunk as I wanted to show Emily that we can work this out. If not, it will be wasted for all those 13 years ago.
'I will come back for you,' my fox was purring the words that have been playing in my mind since I first met Emily years ago. I smiled as I was sipping on the champagne as Emily was talking about something that I don't care about.
I was focusing on her lips moving as I was nodding at the appropriate time. I was sipping more wine as I don't want to comment on her discussion. I just wanted to listen to her voice.
'Claim her,'
'Take her,'
'Kiss her,'
'Make her ours,'
My fox was getting restless with the heavy scent of Emily. She was wearing the honey perfume that went with her angelic smile. She had the most beautiful smile ever and I think I was happy to know that I was the one that put her smile there.
"—And that's what happened to me. Jonathan, are you even listening?" Emily asked as I was blinking at her. She was glaring at me as if I was staring at someone else. Emily turned to look behind her when the hostess was smiling and waving at me before Emily turned to a full scowl.
"If you wanted her so much, you might as well go after her, you…you…you jerk!" Emily said as she was getting up from the table and went out of the restaurant. I did not know what happened because it was too fast. But I know that I have to go after Emily right now.
"So, do you want to get out of here now that your date has bailed?" The hostess asked me as I was flashing her my eyes—my REAL eyes—before she gasped. She stepped back as I was putting some notes to cover our meals.
"Keep the change," I said as I went after Emily. She went to the left of the building as I was looking after that familiar black hair but it was nowhere to be found.
"Damn it," I said before I was using my other sense. I sniffed her out and I went after that scent. It was easier when I was using her mating scent and she was crying.
Damn!
I was running after her as I was following at the back alley and it was dark. But I can see in the dark thanks to my genetics that Emily did not know about. And of course of the past that I don't open up to her yet. Then I heard a whimper.
Emily!I went after the whimper before I was seeing at the sight that made my blood boiled. She was being held against her will by the shifters. If I was right, it was foxes but they were rogues. They did not follow the rules of the Shadow Pack put out in the world as the shifters have agreed to follow. Damn it and it has to be with my mate.
"I suggest you get out of here before you injure yourself," I said as I was focusing on Emily. She was terrified before I was focusing on the thugs.
"Or else what, punk?" One of them asked before I smirked.
"Or else, I have to break you apart," I said before I was sweeping in and let my fox took over without changing.
Emily Chloros' POV
I was running out of the restaurant when I caught that the hostess was flirting with Jonathan and he was staring at her without blinking. I was upset when Jonathan said that he wanted me to marry him but he was ogling on others. I felt sick.
Well, not sick actually but jealous.
I know that Jonathan was a nice catch. Why the hell he was not? He's charming, sweet, sensitive, good with kids and he was very understanding. He helped to get through a lot when I was hard on myself and I don't think I would be like now if not for him.
But the sight of him kicking the ass of the thugs was not something common for me. I know that he was lean and muscular and toned but I never knew that he had the skills that he can kill a person on sight. I think I learned more about Jonathan tonight than the last 10 years I've known him.
He was my best friend since high school. He was a loner back then as I heard that his father just died and he had a sister to take care of. He had no relatives but a lawyer to overlook his family business.
What kind of business was unknown to me.
But I know that deep down he was like me, broken, needed to be love. So I went to him one day and asked him to be my friend because we have so many things in common. Not about the dead parents but the way that we can build each other up in the future. Jonathan looked at me and smiled and then I know from the very first day that his smile will always warm my heart.
And I hated to think that anyone can see that smile except for me.
So, here we were, I was leaning against the wall as Jonathan was breathing hard after kicking some ass for some steam. He turned to look at me and I froze in my spot. I don't know why but the sight of his eyes was familiar. Too familiar.
