Chapter 3 - Starting over

When Alan awoke from the strange dream he opened his eyes to once again see the same room. Confused he tried to get up, while it was difficult it was not impossible like in the dream. The room was more furnished this time, while the sword remained, he didn't see the book anywhere, there was a chest at the foot of the bed, a small night stand and on it an unlit candle beside a bowl of water and damp cloth. The previous glass window replaced by the standard open window with shutters, a gentle breeze flowing into the room.

Rough floor told Alan he was not wearing shoes, causing him to search for them. Finding them under a corner of the bed, he slipped them on and stepped into the hallway. Quickly understanding his home had two stories, he saw the other 3 doors and decided to check them out finding another similarly small rom next to his in which he assumed his brother slept, tho finding it empty, and another even smaller room next to that that must be used for storage as there were only shelving and no other furnature. Stepping into the room Alan found the shelves quite empty hoping the room was seldom used and it was not a representation of his familys wealth. The last room across the hall from his brothers was double the size of his own, with a double bed telling him this was his parents room, besides the furnature for storage it felt empty showing his parents most likely only used it for sleeping and changing clothes.

Going down the stairs he found a large room almost the size of all the rooms upstairs only being divided by sturdy looking pillars of wood acting as support for the upper floor. No fancy chandelier no large waiting room made something in Alans mind click 'So not poor but not overly wealthy either.' Alan thought.

Finding the kitchen and dining room one and the same area was understandable but having the harth on oposite side of the room away from the kitchen confused Alan, 'How do they cook?' talking as if these people were not his family but strangers.

Past the kitchen area Alan saw two doors one looked too small to be the entrance to another room, 'I'd say that is the pantry,' while he walked up and threw open the door suddenly starving. "I'm glad im right," Alan spoke aloud as he grabbed a hunk of bread and a cured sausage hanging from a hook in the celing.

"What is this room here then?" confused as he opened the door next to the pantry revealing an almost modern bathroom with a sink, bathrub and toilet. Both the sink and tub were fitted with a strange faucet he didn't recognize with a blue rock set into them.

The toilet simply looked like a bowl with a hole in the bottom. "Well this is unexpected," Alan said outloud.

"What is unexepcted dear," his mother asked behind him causing him to jump.

"I-I- don't know, I'm just alittle disorientated after waking up alone after hitting my head has hard as I did."

"Honey what do you mean, you hit your head over a month ago, are you okay?" she asked him worrying.

"Ah yeah yeah I'm okay, mom, just alittle forgetful" he replyed trying to play it off. "How do I get the water to run again?" pointing to the sink.

"You haven't been good at it since your memory has been fuzzy, place your hand on the water crystal and flow alittle mana into it, that allows it to turn on. Then just do the same to turn it off again." she told him with a smile.

"Water Crystal?" he softly asked trying to play on the forgetfulness he was apparently known for. 'I have to start learning all this if im going to be able to live my life' he said to himself.

"Yes just like the fire crystal in kitchen and the wind crystals in the rooms, they all work the same." she told him with a smile.

"Great thanks, um was there anything I was suppose to do today?" Alan asked his mother since obviously his memories arn't working correctly at the moment.

"Well not specifically, but you could help me out and take this basket of Materials that was delievered to your father at the shop," she said relieved not having to carry the basket any further into town.

"Oh of course I can do that," he said as he went out of the room spotting a fairly large basket sitting on the floor. 'oh great,' he grumbled in his mind at the size of the package.

While he slid the basket over the floor closer to the front door, his mother started talking "Oh Alan by the way, Happy Birthday!"

"What?" He questioned 'my birthday how do I forget my own birthday?'

"Happy Birthday, its your 14th birthday" his mother told him.

"Thanks," he replyed cheerfully but obviously still confused, '14...I'm only 14! What the hell!' he screamed out in his mind.
