BELLA
I peeled my eyes open by the sound of knocking on my door. I looked around my room, It was still dark. I rubbed my eyes with my palms to remove the rest of my sleep.
I walked towards the door to open it only to find Lewis standing with his hand in his sweater pocket.
"Bel, good morning. Still sleepy I see? Get ready and neatly dressed up. We don't want other people to see your condition, right? So, wear an appropriate dress from your royal wardrobe. See ya down in five minutes."
I glanced at my things. Was I supposed to take my cardboard bed or a broken wardrobe? Will they provide me with better facilities there or are they going to make me stay in a dog's hut?
"Sir?" Lewis turned towards me and nodded his head asking me to continue."Will I get better facilities there? Or should I bring--" I was cut off by Lewis.
"You don't need to bring this--" He pointed his index finger at my bed. "--junk there. We will provide you with a better piece of furniture. You needn't worry about it. I'm sure, dad must have taken care of your things separately."
I nodded my head."Thank you, sir," I muttered.
He nodded his head making me know he accepted my gratitude.
I sauntered back to my room and started getting ready for today's trip. I am glad that I needn't carry my old furniture with me. Maybe going to a new place had its perks.
I took a long cold shower. After I felt satisfied, I went to my closet and found a decent dress to wear. I wore a long blue shirt and normal black jeans which I brought myself from the yearly carnival. Of course, I had to sneak out when they were not there in the house.
I sifted my hair into a fish plate. When I scanned myself in the mirror I found myself to be almost normal.
I wore my wristwatch and made my way downstairs. I didn't glance back at the attic where I lived for around eight years. It just had many unpleasant memories of mine. That attic was my safe yet unsafe place for me. That was the room where I got raped--
I shook my head to break myself out of those thoughts. Let by bygones be bygones.
"Where are you? It's fucking getting late."
I let out a humourless chuckle because in the last eight years except for the school teachers, no one has ever called me by my name. I don't think my father remembered the name he kept for me.
As I reached the last step of the stairs, I saw my father making out with Angelo. I made a dirty look before masking it.
When they heard my foot hitting the floor they both turned around and looked at me with gagging expression.
Well, I should be the one looking at them like that.
Angelo flipped her silver hair behind her shoulder. "Aww! Look my baby girl has grown up. You look very ugly by the way. Just look at yourself, a word to describe you is 'Eww'." She gagged at me.
My father nodded his head; agreeing with her.
Tears clouded my vision. The verbal abuse was affecting me more than physical abuse. However, I tried to not show my feelings through my face but my eyes betrayed me. Both slowly grinned when they saw me growing sad before striding towards the door together, with my father's arm around Angelo's waist. I followed behind them. I glanced back at the house for the last time before making my way to the car.
"Belwhore, who will carry the suitcases? The ants or spiders?" I received a slap on my right cheek. "Go, carry the bags and put it inside the car," Lewis ordered.
I nodded my head, never once lifting my eyes to look straight and glanced towards the bags. We didn't have much, as the house there was going to be furnished.
When I came to halt in front of the bags and first tried to pull the trolley which was practically of my size. However, with the energy left in me, I couldn't even move it by an inch. I tried to carry my duffle bag. When I picked it up, I immediately drop it as it was very heavy for me to hold.
"What are you doing there? manufacturing trolleys or picking them up?" My father shouted.
I tried again to pick and pull the luggage but it didn't even move from its initial position. I sighed in defeat and wobbled towards my father.
"Sir, pardon me, I couldn't complete your task." I bowed my head.
My father let out a humourless laugh. He yanked me by my hair to make me look straight at his dark grey orbs. I expected him to throw me across the yard like he always did whenever he was angry, but when I opened my eyes, I saw him looking at me in disgust. He pulled his hand away from my hair and cleaned his it with a handkerchief.
"Though I should have punished you, we don't have time for that. You see it's getting late and I don't want to bruise you up. I want you to look like as though you are also a part of my family. Though, you aren't."
I briefly closed my eyes in distress before opening them.
With that, he pushed me to the ground and went to pick the luggage. I got up slowly and made my way to the car. I saw him carrying two bags at a time. I was now seriously curious as to where did he get that much strength from.
After about ten minutes, all four of us got inside the car. Lewis and I in the back seat, Angelo in the front with my father who was driving the car.
As he turned on the car, I gazed out of the window. Kids around 7 years old were going to their school with their parents holding their tiny hands.
The scenery reminded about my mother holding my hands while walking to school. I sighed and didn't allow her to enter my thoughts because I knew I would end up crying.
When we passed by my old high school building, I noticed my main bully Ashton standing at the entrance with some blue water balloons. I giggled knowing exactly for whom he was waiting for.
I heard the sound of someone clearing their throat. I glanced back to see Lewis staring at me with a questioning look.
"Why did you chuckle? What did you find funny?" He asked curiously as he had never seen me give away any emotion other than fear. I motioned him to see the entrance of our now old highschool. He glanced behind and let out chuckled. "It seems he didn't get the news of you leaving school yet." I nodded my head in agreement.
As Lewis was about to open his mouth to talk to me, Angelo's fake sweet voice interrupted him. "You made my son speak to you, ugly mutt!" I didn't understand what she was talking about but soon realized that she didn't like me speaking to his son.
All of a sudden, I felt like I was on fire. As if I was being burnt. I let out a cry making my father immediately stop the car. I moaned out loud again as the burning sensation became more intense.
My vision got blurry as tears pooled. I felt myself losing my conscious but tried my best to keep my eyes open.
"Stop it, Angelo! You are going to kill her." I heard my father shout.
"No! How dare that mutt, she tried to make a conversation with my son! She is--" I heard Angelo start but was cut off by my father.
"Lewis! What the fuck are you doing? You haven't started training yet." I heard my father's frantic voice.
I started feeling weird cooling sensation out of nowhere. I glanced up to see Lewis's grey orbs turning a light shade of green. How was that possible? Maybe it was because I was imagining. Maybe I was not in my right state of mind.
Slowly the burning sensation that exploded all throughout my entire body came to a halt. I fell back in my seat.
Silence filled the car.
"Take deep breaths." I heard Lewis tell me. I did as I was told to but I still struggled to breathe properly.
I got startled when I was pulled into someone's chest. I looked up to see Lewis looking at me with an unreadable expression. Maybe it was pity? disgust?
"Concentrate on the rhythm of my heart."
I didn't pull away from his hold as I was scared whether I would be punished for that too.
I started focusing on his heartbeat. After a few minutes, which felt like hours I began breathing back normally. I looked back up at Lewis with gratitude and pulled myself away from his embrace.
"Don't look at me like that, Belwhore. I just wanted my time-passer to be alive for my time pass."
"But-But you did something that made your eyes to glow..." I trailed off.
"We aren't humans." He shrugged before gazing out.
I sat frozen but didn't feel shocked. I felt like I was aware of it from before. I felt as though I know some part of the information about inhuman beings. However, it was alarming information for me to know. I never knew that I was leaving with a family who wasn't humans. Why didn't they tell me about it? Did they feel it be useless for me to know?
Ah! They're just going to continue breaking me.
Maybe they think humans like me are weak because of which they beat and use me?
But why was I pondering in that question?
"T-Then what're you all...?" I asked hesitantly.
I looked at Angelo and my father who had a smirk on their faces but never replied to my question.
I was now getting curious. What were they?
"Sorcerers," Lewis answered still gazing out of the window.
Sorcerers? As in magicians?!
I didn't ask them more questions as I knew it would only lead to trouble. With that thought, I leaned my head against the window.
