Chapter 39 - Shocked

On the other side, the old man who was swiftly tracing the divine soul mark and chasing it to get back his cosmic bag suddenly stopped. His face contorted into an ugly expression of fury and unwillingness.

It's broken!

The divine soul mark was gone! Someone removed it!

To remove that divine soul mark, the person's ability must be far above his. Even if he continued chasing now and eventually caught up with the person, he probably wouldn't be able to get his cosmic bag back.

Realizing this, the old man's heart was engulfed with unwillingness and anger. That was a spiritual fruit which could increase human life by ten years! It takes the plant 50 years to bloom and another 50 years for it to bear fruit. That was the only fruit produced in the last 100 years.

He did so many preparations to obtain this Red Solar Fruit, and yet, in the end, all his efforts benefited others!

Knowing that his time was almost up, and he could no longer advance to the next level, the old man felt anxious and sad. Without the Red Solar Fruit, he was afraid he wouldn't have much longer to live…

At the same time, after entering the forest, Tang Ning started picking the medicinal herbs around her. She noticed that this dense forest had an abundance of medicinal herbs, and even though these herbs might not be very precious, they were very useful to Tang Ning.

Tang Ning was perhaps still in the outer area of the forest, therefore other than the two monsters from before, she only saw some snakes hissing and cicadas singing on the tree branches. Other than that, she did not encounter any more fierce monsters.

As Tang Ning continued picking medicinal herbs, she moved further deep into the forest. Tang Ning noticed that the air was getting moister and the foliage becoming lusher. When she looked up, she noticed that sunlight was blocked by the dense canopy of trees and so even the soil under her feet was still damp.

For some unknown reason, as she kept moving deeper into the forest, she could no longer see any snakes or cicadas. The air was still and quiet, and the atmosphere was stifling.

Tang Ning pursed her lips and became more attentive to her surroundings. Suddenly, her gaze narrowed as she focused at a bush, and met a pair of bloodthirsty beastly eyes.

The monster also did not expect that the human would notice it and meet its gaze. The monster growled and immediately pounced towards Tang Ning. The instant Tang Ning saw the monster, she turned around and climbed the nearest tree.

"Wow! Shocked me."

She sat on the tree and patted her chest. Who knew that these monsters were so intelligent that they were capable of creating traps? If she did not notice the monster and continued to pick herbs, she would probably have been killed by now.

"Roar!"

A low growl sounded from the bottom of the tree. Tang Ning just caught her breath when she saw the monster at the bottom of the tree slowly retreating.

"What are you trying to do?"

Tang Ning, who was originally sitting on the tree, stood up. With one hand she supported herself against the tree trunk and held a dagger in the other hand. She stared at the monster, and her instincts told her that something was wrong.

As expected, the next moment, the retreating monster roared and suddenly ran a few steps and leaped onto the tree.

"Shit! How does it climb up the tree!"

She let out a soft groan and immediately jumped down the tree. Just as she landed, she heard a roar behind her, and before she could stand up, she felt a sharp pain in her shoulder.

The monster's attack was so fast that she didn't even have a chance to respond. Having no time to care about the injury on her shoulder, Tang Ning immediately rolled on the ground, and then she saw the monster's sharp claws fiercely slashing at the place where she was a second ago. The razor-sharp claws had dug into the ground, leaving behind deep claw marks.

Tang Ning squinted her eyes as she saw the blood, and the air around her became colder. After she got up from the ground, she held the dagger in her hand and attacked forward instead of retreating.
