Slash!
"Ai Jiao!"
The tip of the blade hit Ye Jiao's arm as the girl evaded to the side. From the wound, Ye Jiao felt sudden searing pain as she realized that Lu Wan must have smeared his blade with poison. It was no wonder that Lu Wan wanted her to change the tempo suddenly.
However, their coordination was still messy.
"Eat that, you brats…!"
The governor was laughing as he twisted his axe to Ye Jiao's direction. However, Ye Jiao read his attack as she rolled on the ground and landed on the governor's side. She raised her blade and used it to pierce straight to the governor's foot, to be exact, his toe.
Even though the wound was small, the pain was immense. Humans were sensitive in their fingers because they were used to sense what they touched. With Ye Jiao attacked his weak spot mercilessly, he could feel his soul drifting for a split second.
It was just a split second, but it was enough to seal his fate.
After Ye Jiao got hit, Lu Wan pulled his chain back and twisted it to the governor's direction once again. This time, he made sure that he made the attack nearly at the same time as Ye Jiao's attack.
Slash!
The blade slashed the governor's shoulder. Searing pain suddenly emerged from the wound's location and the governor's face changed considerably.
"W-what in the world?"
The pain intensified as it entered his blood vessel. The governor panicked and tried to attack once again.
Clang!
Slash!
Ye Jiao blocked his attack while Lu Wan's blade reached the governor's back. It made another wound, a shallow one but fatal as it contained deadly poison.
With another wound, the pain entered his entire body to the point that the governor was unable to stand upright anymore. His face contorted in pain and he screamed loudly.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!"
Ye Jiao and Lu Wan stopped attacking. The noise this time would surely be enough for the villagers to gather in this place.
"Yu Shui, can you write the word Bao Fu? I'm not sure how to write the letter."
"I can."
Lu Wan held his blade and carved the word Bao Fu on the ground. This was one of the traditions of assassins in Bao Fu Organization as they would leave their mark for every mission they did.
After the word finished, the two of them tactfully moved to the wall nearby and used it to jump to the roof.
"Is it over?" Ye Jiao asked, her breath uneven.
"Once you digest this poison, it'll enter your blood vessel and destroy your organ. After 10 seconds, you won't be able to stay alive anymore," Lu Wan explained.
Ye Jiao stretched her hand. "Where's the antidote?"
"You already have it," Lu Wan smiled wryly. "I gave the far weakened version to you from a long time ago, so you already have some immunity. Don't worry, you will only feel slight pain, but it won't destroy your organ."
"Your poison became even scarier as time passes, Senior Brother Lu."
"I didn't make this one. This is one of the deadliest poison available in Bao Fu Organization. Master gives it to me for experiment and fight," Lu Wan pointed to the man before them. "I think he knows that we're not capable enough to break the defense of Eon Energy Master rank 2."
"Yeah, you're right."
Looking at the man wailing in pain before them, the two of them didn't feel anything. After hearing what he had done, the two of them thought that it was natural that this man met his end. It might be cruel for them to think that way, but they knew that this was just how the world worked.
Only the strong would be able to stand at the end.
The villagers came outside when they heard the sound. When they saw the governor in wretched state, they were surprised but no one was willing to help.
"Y-you! Medicine! Med-medicine!"
Smack!
"So this is the almighty governor. You're nothing but someone at the verge of death, aren't you?"
"You think you can order us again?"
"In your dream!"
Instead of help, what the governor got was another harsh beating. The villagers were venting their rage as they were angry with the governor's treatment to them all these past few months. Seeing him in this condition, no one was willing to help.
"Look, it's Bao Fu!"
"Yeah, I'm glad that they manage to come here and help us."
"It's truly the right decision to issue the mission."
As the governor breathed his last, he finally understood that the children who came here before were assassins from Bao Fu Organization. It seemed that some villagers managed to sneak away and posted the mission, thus bringing his bitter end to him.
"It's nice," Ye Jiao muttered as she watched.
"Yes?"
"Seeing them happy," Ye Jiao pointed to the people before them. "They might be just strangers, but seeing them happy like this, I think it's a good thing."
Lu Wan nodded. "Yeah, I guess so."
The two of them stayed quiet as they watched the villagers celebrating. It was still early at night, so the people hadn't slept yet. Right now, they didn't seem like they were willing to have any rest.
"Jiao'er, I'm sorry."
"Senior Brother Lu?" Ye Jiao was stunned. "Why are you apologizing?"
"The wound on your arm," Lu Wan pointed to Ye Jiao's arm. The blood had dried and it had started to heal because it was just a scratch. "If only I'm able to control the chain better, you won't get hurt like this. This is my fault."
"Ah," Ye Jiao looked at her arm. "It's nothing much. You don't have to worry so much."
"But! I nearly put your life in danger."
"I'm an assassin, so it's normal to put my life in danger," Ye Jiao showed her arm. "Compared to the danger we're going to face in the future as we grow and our opponent also grows stronger, this is nothing."
Lu Wan was silent for a moment before he nodded his head. "I understand. We're still growing and we have to face much stronger opponents in the future. This is just the beginning."
"if you're sorry, you just have to train again, Senior Brother Lu. That way, you won't repeat the same mistake again."
"Yeah," Lu Wan showed a relieved smile. "You're right. Let's train hard again when we come back."
"Ok, now, let's have some rest."
"Don't you want to celebrate too?"
"No, thank you. I reek of sweat and blood because of the fight, so I want to take a bath and sleep."
"Ok, let's go back."
Silently, the two children returned back to the inn without anyone noticing.
