Chapter 81 - Free Training Time

Ye Jiao stayed on the tree for the next few minutes, pulling Eon Energy to nourish both her core and her body. Her eyes watched her surroundings as she wondered what kind of training would be the most suitable.

"This is an assassin's training, what kind of practice does an assassin need?"

She had heard that assassins were people who were good at killing people. They were able to kill people stronger than them because they used some tricks such as poison, traps, hidden weapons….

"I should have learned more," Ye Jiao sighed to herself. "I don't have any of those, not even the knowledge to make one."

However, asking the children to make them would be a bit too much. There must be another reason for the men to push them into the large pit of fire in the forest filled with wolves like this. There was no way they wanted to kill the children.

Ye Jiao opened her eyes and looked to the front. All she could see was trees around her. She could guess that the wolves might not be near her because she couldn't sense them. Occasionally, she would hear their howls, but nothing more than that.

"Maybe they want us to kill the wolves?"

It was not impossible, but it would be hard for them to kill the wolves without getting cornered. They didn't have any weapon on them. Most importantly, how could they fight against numerous beasts that were stronger than them?

That would be insane.

Ye Jiao pulled the branch near her and broke it. Her fingers played with the small and thin branch. "I can make a weapon by sharpening the end of a branch, but can this kill numerous wolves at once?"

Numerous wolves?

How about just one? Ye Jiao's mind spun hard as she thought about it. At this moment, she realized that it was not impossible for her to fight back and kill the wolves. She would be unable to fight back against all of them, but she should be able to lure them one by one.

"Alright, time to hunt."

Ye Jiao jumped down and carefully walked around. She tried to suppress her own breath as it might give away her position when trying to find the wolf pack.

Awooooo!

'They are near.'

The sound signaled that they must be not far from her. With agile movement, Ye Jiao stepped on the ground carefully and approached the wolves. She could see that they were scattered around in a large area. It would not be impossible for her to approach the furthest one.

'Here we go.'

Ye Jiao sprinted from her position and used the branch that she brought as a wooden spear. The wolf not far from her became startled, but Ye Jiao had reached him before it could react. The branch stabbed the wolf's neck, but Ye Jiao could feel the hard resistance from the skin and muscle inside.

The wolf glared at Ye Jiao as it jumped back. Blood trickled down from the wound on its neck that Ye Jiao made.

Awoooooooo!

'This is bad,' Ye Jiao turned around and climbed the tree not far from her as the wolves pounced in her direction. Her heart was beating fast and she tried her best to calm herself down.

With numerous wolves pouncing on the tree, it started to shake, so Ye Jiao jumped to another tree. She had done this a few times in the past to escape the Wei siblings, so it was not hard for her to continue jumping on the trees.

One way or another, she managed to escape from the wolves.

"That's a close one," Ye Jiao looked at the broken branch in her hand. She still remembered the feeling of it stabbing into the wolf's neck. From the blood stain that remained, she realized that it was not enough.

"I have to use a longer and sharper stick."

Ye Jiao broke another branch and used her hand to clean the smaller ones. She frowned when she saw the end of the branch didn't look sharp. It would be hard for her to fight if she didn't find a way to sharpen it.

However, she couldn't think of anything right now.

"Right, the force from my run is not enough, so I have to use another way," Ye Jiao pondered about her method. "How about if I try to jump down?"

Gravitation would accelerate her fall. If she focused her fall on the attack, it should be able to pierce through the wolf's neck. Well, if she failed, the end result would be her death.

"It's worth a try."

With that, Ye Jiao tried to search for another pack of wolves. She made sure that she moved as slowly as possible without exposing her intention. Even though her method was clumsy, it was enough to fool these unranked wolves.

It didn't take long for Ye Jiao to find another pack of wolves, which made her sure that this place was filled with wolves. However, it seemed that most children adopted the same way as her, which was to hide and only attack occasionally.

She inched closer to the wolf as her mind calculated the wolf's movements. Sweat trickled down on her forehead as she anticipated the wolf getting closer to the designated place. When the wolf reached it, Ye Jiao jumped down from the tree straight to the wolf's body.

She made sure that her hand was at the bottom, but when it reached the wolf's neck, her hand feltl the strong impact . Despite it being painful, she kept her hand firm and the stick pierced through the wolf's neck. Her aim missed a bit, but it was still pretty good.

Her body crashed down onto the wolf's body. Thanks to the fur and meat pillow, she didn't suffer any wounds.

Ye Jiao realized that the wolf was still alive, so she pulled up the stick and stabbed it at a different angle to the wolf's neck. The wolf died right away. After that, she jumped away and climbed back up the tree as the other wolves pounced in her direction. They didn't succeed as Ye Jiao managed to climb high enough.

'That was close.'

Ye Jiao wiped the sweat on her forehead as her eyes looked at the wolves with curiosity. Will they follow her by climbing trees? She had never heard that a wolf could climb a tree, though…

"AAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaa!"

A loud scream came from a nearby place. The wolves decided to disregard Ye Jiao and dashed to the source of the yell. Left alone up on the tree, Ye Jiao blinked several times. Now she realized why the children decided to keep their mouths shut most of the time. The wolves were attracted to their voices too.

'Weird wolves, those men must have arranged it.'

Staying silent must be something important for an assassin, so they were trained to not speak at all. Reminders would not be enough, so the best way was to make the wolves attracted to voices. It was really brutal, but she and the other children would never forget to not speak this way.

Ye Jiao chose to not think too much as she climbed down the tree and started to clean up the meat. There was no knife around, so she made use of thin and sharp rock to cut some meat and skin them.

She could only eat a bit of meat, so the rest would be left behind to attract the wolves back here again.

"Time to practice again."
