Chapter 4 - chapter three

Cursed ring that what I called it, I'm the student doctor at Lenmed hospital, and I'm also a part-time waiter in some lavish pop up restaurant called 'To bee', don't ask me about the name and where it came from because I don't care to ask, I was just happy to get the job, and the pay was not so bad either, so when I went for my rounds in the hospital naturally I was worried someone will see the huge ring but by the grace of the gods no one did, but I was not so fortunate at my next job as it was Valentine's Day, and the restaurant was full of couples and people who were there for dates, and such and people who were actually stood up are actually too observant more than happy couples or rich snobs who think the sun only shines around them, the first customer was the stood up beautiful lady that had long brown hair, nicely done make-up, she sat nicely in the middle of our dimly lit restaurant to uplift the romantic mood

"hi I can red wine, while I wait for my boyfriend please" she said politely  without waiting for.me to introduce myself, and I smiled at her writing it down

"is that all mam," I said, lifting my head to look at her that when I realized she saw the ring, but she never mentioned it at that particular moment, and I was glad for it while I tried to hide it with my small order book

"yes, that will be all for now, thanks" she said, forcing a smile, and I knew it right there that my tip just got even smaller, but I was sure when her date actually came things will change, but I was very wrong because an hour later the mood got darker, and tense, because the stupid jerk of a boyfriend didn't show up, another reason I didn't date, that's when the questions about the ring

started

"you are so lucky you have a loving husband or fiancée is it?" she said, sipping her firth glass of wine, and I knew she was already drunk

"long story mam, and I'm not sure I want to talk about it while at work" I said politely but that's not how she took it

"why because, I'm not married or I'm not even engaged and my boyfriend of three years never even bothered to show up, while he knew it was Valentine's Day?" she said, glaring at me, I don't know how she translated what I said, but she was furious, and shouting causing a scene in the restaurant

"no mam, I didn't mean it like that, and I'm sorry if I offended you, and as for your boyfriend not showing up, I'm sure his busy" I said, trying to at least calm her down

"his a dick and everyone in this restaurant sucks, including you lady with an expensive ring but working in this dump, and you are getting no tip from me" she said, getting up, and my manager was already glaring at me like I caused the scene, so, I let her pay her for drinks and got no tip for my hard work, but I still blamed the ring for it, and I hoped my next table will be better, but boy was I wrong

"good evening my name is Tammy, and I will be your server tonight, what can I get for you" this time it was a young couple, not over twenty years, and the boy really seemed nervous and I knew at the moment why, I already seen that face many times before, and today was the ultimate time to do it, so I expected it from everyone who booked this overly expensive pop up restaurant

"hey waiter, I would like your most expensive white wine, because red stains my teeth and I would be seen death with stained teeth in public, and my boyfriend here will have bottled water first and make it cold" she said, looking at her money maker, I mean her boyfriend smiling, and that's when I realized she knew, he was going to propose, and she was the one that came up with the idea, and I almost laughed but kept it in, and just smiled while writing it down, and giving them their menus

The next thirty minutes, went in a blur as I served other customers, and was also waiting for the rehearsed proposal that was going to happen while they had dessert I guessed, and the poor boy was sweating by then, and he hardly touched his steak tartar that was ordered by the girlfriend while she got a chicken salad, she was forcing this lifestyle on the poor guy, and I didn't have to wait long as the chocolate mousse came, and she pushed him to do it glaring at him and it was like watching a show, and I told my colleagues about the show so all of us were watching some even making bets, it was a nice show, and the was a rule you must be the first one to congratulate them in behalf of the restaurant, so I was already standing next to the couple when he went on his knees and pledged his undying love for her before asking her to marry him and of cause she said yes, and I went to her placing the complementary champagne, and as my luck will have it I gave her with the hand that had the big ring, bigger than hers and I saw the deadliest glare that will haunt my dreams

"excuse me, can we have a new waitress, this one is making me uncomfortable the way she's looking at my fiancée" I was shocked by her words and almost let go of the expensive bottle of champagne I was holding, but by Now, I knew what set her off and I looked at the cursed thing but to my very bad luck my manager was just a table away and heard the conversation, and he came to apologize for my behalf, before dragging me to the kitchen

"Tammy what's wrong with you today? This is the second time you caused a scene tonight, and you're my best waitress, what's your problem?" he said in a hushed firm voice!

"I'm sorry sir it will never happen again" that's all I said I couldn't possibly say, no the curse ring is doing all of this but I knew I needed to find a way to get it off my finger

"It better not Because if it does, I won't hesitate in firing you, but you're excused for tonight, and next time send your mail to your own house because this is a place of work, and I had to open it, just to see If you're not working for the other side, congratulations by the way, I don't know why you didn't tell us, and I won't get, into your personal life, so go home early tonight" he said, smiling before tapping my shoulder, and I wondered what he was talking about as I took the A4 envelope that was already ripped opened, and slowly slid the paper out without even seeing the return address, and my eyed opened wide as I saw the big letters from the department of home affairs!
