Siv sits on her bed as Gary drags a chair closer to her and faces her. She feels nervous. Even though Gary is smiling, she can tell that he is tense.
"Do you love me?" Gary asks, sending Siv into shock. She expected him to talk about the prisoners, the meeting with the chiefs tomorrow, or some kind of problem that they need to take care of. But this question is too direct, too serious coming from Gary.
'I am in love with him, right? I have never felt the same with any other man. Not even Brandt who was technically my idol.'
Gary is waiting patiently for her to answer. He does not want to utter a sound, afraid that it might make everything he has shared with Siv disappear. Afraid that a simple sound might turn that dream into a nightmare.
