Chapter 40 - Zombie Transformation (Part-1)

A thick purple snake gushed into the body of Prakash and activated his 'Purple Transformation' as his eyes and hair turned purple while veins popped up all over his skin which was maintained for 30-40 seconds before it stopped. It took a further 20 seconds for Prakash to break out of his daze when he gazed at a mangled corpse that lay in front of him.

Honestly, such a scene would have revolted Prakash when he was big but all it did now was made him frown. It wasn't like he had gotten used to such gore but was more like an instinctual part of him didn't seem to be concerned with the mangled remains of other creatures. It was a conflicting emotion.

After it had feasted on the corpse of its foe till complete satisfaction, the puppet pigeon once again took off into the skies towards another pigeon. But, just when it was about to dive into the fight, some of the surrounding wasps immediately pounced upon it.

"That's an ally!" Prakash bellowed to his utmost limit by straining his vocal cords when he noticed that the insects had assumed the puppet pigeon to be one of their enemies.

His bellow had been heard by the insects nearby which immediately communicated with the others with a series of hand motions. A few seconds later, the swarm of insects opened a path for the puppet pigeon which was riddled with minor bumps all over its body that had been a result of the wasp stings.

Since it couldn't feel pain in the first place, the puppet pigeon disregarded its minor injuries and tussled with the injured pigeon.

'Bam' 'Bang'

Two pigeons crashed into the ground as the surrounding insects danced in the air in joy. The two pigeons had suffered heart attacks due to the poison of the wasps that had accumulated in their bodies to a significant amount leaving them to twitch helplessly on the ground.

Prakash immediately transformed into a puppy and pounced upon the two fallen birds and bit into their throats. He dissolved his transformation the moment he confirmed that the two birds had been killed and awaited in a patient manner as two purple snakes streaked from the two dead bodies and entered him.

Purple snakes weren't attracted towards you on two conditions: one, you weren't the one who killed the creature, two, you were still in your transformation.

The battle in the air had taken a turn for the worst, the remaining pigeons slapped the surrounding insects with their wings and immediately began to flap their wings with the intention to regroup themselves.

The wounded insects fell on the floor and made pitter-patter sounds like rainfall.

The pigeon that was fighting with the puppet pigeon failed to separate itself while the others took off to the skies and huddled together at the rooftop of the shopping mall as they gazed below while craning their necks.

As time passed in an impasse, numerous stumps began to grow on their bodies as the grouped birds shuddered in pain.

Since the toxicity of the poison in their stings was very low due to their transformations only being that of a baby wasp, it took a long time and a significant number of stings for the poison to accumulate in the bodies of their foes and begin to take an effect.

Most of the flying insects landed on the ground and dissolved their transformations, revealing people that had blue skins. However, some of the insects that were still caught up in their battle reverie began to fly upwards to the pigeons when their transformations dissolved into purple smoke which made them fall.

'Thump' 'Thump'

Some of the unfortunate ones fell on the hard floor and died while many other human figures fell on a net made from spider web as clarity returned to their minds. But before they could free themselves, their pale blue bodies began to burn under the sunlight that shone through the gaps in the glass roof of the shopping mall.

"Bring in the water spray," Vikram commanded in a hurry when he saw the dire situation. They had fought in their transformed selves for too long which had resulted in their 'Zombie Transformation' beginning to take effect. Even though exposure to sunlight could cure them of their 'Zombie Transformation', but without water to heal their bodies, the sunlight would burn them to a crisp.

A man sprinted towards the three lego towers on his command and immediately afterward, numerous people rushed out carrying with them a series of long tubes that each had numerous small holes on its head while a balloon-like apparatus was attached next to the head.

The tail end of the tube was inserted into a huge water container that had the capacity to store about 50 litres of water.

As he understood their intentions, Prakash transformed into a puppy and volunteered for the job. The force he could exert in his transformed form was many times greater than the combined effort of others.

As he pressed the balloon-like apparatus of one of the tubes in a rhythmic manner, water was sucked into the long tube from the water container and gushed towards the head. Due to the pressure developed in the water upon his rhythmic application of force, the water impacted the porous nozzle and gushed out in the form of tiny water droplets.

The tiny water droplets sprayed in the air and fell upon the bodies of the burning people who were trapped in the spider web a floor below them and began to work its magic.

Anguished cries filled the air that was a mixture of both the humans as well as that of the pigeons. The humans were screaming due to being burned under the sun while the pigeons screeched due to the intense pain and irritating rashes that had formed all over the stumps on their bodies which were a result of the wasp stings.

In the meantime, the puppet pigeon ripped apart the wings of its foe and forced it onto the ground. It held the injured bird in its hold but didn't deliver the killing blow yet as Prakash was currently in a transformed state.

But a few seconds later, the cries of the injured bird stopped as it seemed to have suffered a heart-attack and died due to being unable to cope up with the pain. A purple snake drifted out of its body that was immediately pounced upon by Ugly Shaggy that had come out of the mind of the puppet pigeon.

Everyone who had been hiding in the shelters till now rushed towards the warriors with each of them carrying a plastic cup that was filled to the brim with water.

On the signal of Vikram, five of his men walked towards a certain installment placed at the corner of their base and pulled at a thick thread. A huge lens that was placed under the sunlight-filled region in the middle of the shopping mall on the fifth floor tilted towards their side and refracted the rays of the sun to them.

The intensity of the sunlight refracted through the lens was focused on a small location in their base that covered about 20 square centimetres in area and had probably only about half that of the sunlight which shone on the humans who were trapped on the spider web.

The warriors who had participated in the battle just now stood in a line as they began to stand under the sunlight-filled region in sets of four.

Screams immediately resounded through the air and a smell of burning flesh filled the region. People who were ready with plastic cups filled with water immediately sprayed the water on their bodies in a practiced manner.

Their burning bodies turned normal within a few seconds as the next batch of warriors stood under the sunlight-filled area. Most of the warriors only had light indications of their skin turning blue which was a good sign.

Another group of people who hadn't participated in the earlier fight threw ropes down the floors and reached out to the people trapped on the spider net who had fallen on them when their transformations suddenly dissolved mid-battle. The spider net was created by Vikram as a safety net to catch fellow warriors when their transformations dissolved in battles mid-air.

Each of the groups that descended down the ropes was a team of five people each with each of them assigned a designated spot of rescue.

One of the groups that consisted of three youngsters and 2 adults in their mid-thirties stepped on the net made of spider silk as they walked unhindered on it due to the special clothing they wore on their bodies.

Their designated rescue area was a dark damp place situated underneath an advertisement board along the wall that ran below the fourth floor to the third-floor area which was basically a place where they had rescued more than 20 people after the previous battle. So they expected a similar amount this time too.

'Rooaarrr'

Suddenly, the calm and collected group who descended along the ropes to save the trapped people shuddered in fright as they gazed towards a spot under the advertisement board that practically looked like it was nighttime there.

They saw a humanoid figure that tried to free itself from the web attached to its body without caring about the skin that peeled off during each pull at the spider web.

"Alert the leader," A man in his thirties who was the person in charge of this group commanded a youth as he warily gazed at the humanoid figure before him.

As the youth began to spring atop the net towards the silk rope that reached up, the humanoid figure hiding within the shadows noticed his retreat and viciously tore off all the silk threads attached to its body. The humanoid figure then stepped out of the shadowed region as sunlight shone on its deep blue skin that was almost pitch black.

Deep blue skin, wings of a dragonfly, mouthpart of a mosquito, and a stinger of a wasp in place of its legs, the humanoid figure sent a chill through the bodies of the remaining four humans.

"All of you retreat! That thing is beyond your fighting capacity," The group leader immediately gauged the difference in their abilities and commanded the others to retreat as he transformed into a wasp and charged towards the bluish figure.

'Rip'

In the blink of an eye, the wings of the wasp were torn off by the bluish figure while the wasp dissolved to reveal the man who had his face etched with fear. He immediately transformed into a housefly with the intention to escape.

"No!" Fear gripped the man's heart as the speed of the bluish figure was even greater than his housefly-form, which was the creature with the fastest speed in their base.

The mouthpart of the bluish figure split open to reveal a mangled jaw filled with sawlike teeth that chomped on the wasp wings it held in its hands. The strangest thing was that even after the man had dissolved his wasp transformation, the wings that were torn off from his wasp transformation still hadn't dissolved into purple smoke.

'Guuwrrraaaw'

The bluish figure gave out a guttural roar with delight as it relished the wasp wings. Even while it munched on the wasp wings, it still cornered the four humans who tried to escape from its range.

'Swish'

The bluish figure sped through the air and appeared before a housefly as if it had teleported and plunged its mouthpart straight into its body. The mosquito dissolved into purple smoke and revealed a man who gazed at the monstrosity before his eyes with a shocked expression.

"How?" That was all he could mutter before breathing his last. The attack of the bluish figure actually harmed his main body while in his transformed state. Its mouthpart pierced into his heart and sucked his body fluids voraciously.
