Chereads / The Changeling: A Quest For Time / Chapter 14 - Counterattack of the Gods

Chapter 14 - Counterattack of the Gods

It was currently night-time in North Sentinel Island, but there were currently thousands of humanoid silhouettes that were armed from head to toe in what appeared to be crystallized armour and seemed to be in the middle of a heated discussion.

Their armour seemed to glisten in the same radiance as that of the moon and also seemed to be absorbing the ambient moonlight into it. Their armour looked like a synthetic skin-tight suit that was layered with a slab of ice that shone with a deadly might. But there was a common phenomenon that was simultaneously occurring over all the armours that were bathing and absorbing the ambient moonlight.

'Crack' 'Crack'

Cracks slowly formed on the armours and seemed to be spreading to the rest of its surface.

'Snap'

One armour abruptly shattered into numerous pieces revealing the Sentinelese clansmen within it. As his armour shattered into numerous pieces, the Sentinelese clansmen scooped out a few pieces and gave a forlorn sigh.

"They have long since hit their limits." The clansmen stated the very thought that was in the minds of everyone.

"We can create them again." Another clansman said in a hoarse voice.

"Yeah, the records and blueprints of our armours still exist," An old lady said as she caressed the remains of her broken armour.

"We can create them again!"

"We can create them again!"

As all the clansmen shouted in chorus, they were interrupted by a cough. As everyone swept their gazes towards the source of the cough, they saw 10 more humanoid figures appear.

These humanoid figures looked a bit different as compared to all the other Sentinelese clansmen that were conversing till now. Their armours shone with the same radiance as that of the sun but they too were slowly dimming in radiance.

As each second passed in silence, the air was filled with the sounds of cracks when one of the clansmen whose armour shone with the sun's radiance stepped forward. His radiance was the brightest among the group of ten figures.

Everyone immediately ceased their discussions and intently listened to the words of the clansmen who stepped forward. This action clearly distinguished the hierarchy between themselves.

The clansmen who stepped forward slowly spoke, each of his words powerfully reverberating to the ends of North Sentinelese Island.

"Our ancestors had predicted their downfall and the subsequent rise of the humans. So, they made many preparations before they lost the 'Power of Creation' to humans. They have stored many precious materials at the very depths of this island that are necessary to create our armours."

As he said this, he observed the eyes of the listeners lit up in surprise. Clearly, they weren't privy to such details. 10,000 years was too long a period for even themselves who had long lifespans. So, only a select few were privy to such knowledge.

The clansman who was speaking took a deep breath as he went through his mind about the information that he had to deliver in a sequential order.

"We,"

"Can begin to use our memory capsules by tomorrow when the sun sets,"

"Start producing our armours after a week,"

"By the end of the first month, we would have 100 Moongod armours and 10 Sungod armours with us,"

"And, we can finally begin our counterattack against the humans at that point." He declared in his powerful tone.

"Wouldn't the humans have significantly developed by then? Their perception of time is faster than us by a wide margin. We must strike them now while they are still in the dark and at their weakest." A clear voice of opposition rang out from the crowd as a figure walked out. His armour glistened with moonlight but unlike others, his armour didn't even have a single crack or blemish on it. He also wore a crown that was shaped like a pointed hemisphere with a crescent moon attached behind it.

"It's Wutak!" A clansman immediately shouted upon seeing the arrogant gait of the opposing figure.

"No wonder. Only Wutak can talk back against a Sungod clansman." Another Moongod clansman muttered.

The natives of North Sentinel Island were called as the Sentinelese Tribe by the humans but the name didn't originate from humans; it was discretely spread to them by the Gods when they paid visits to their island to establish friendly contact after a shower of spears and arrows.

The Sentinelese tribe were a branch of the race of Gods that primarily focused on researching about the mysteries of the human bodies and the strange power they possessed. It was what they did during the Era of the Gods when they still had the 'Power of Creation' with them.

The Sentinelese tribe had two hierarchal divisions between them based on their research and battle prowess, namely the Sungod and the Moongod clansmen.

They were divided based on their armour compatibility and the energy their armours absorbed. The Moongod clansmen were inferior in all aspects to the Sungod clansmen ranging from their thinking speed, body strength, wisdom, and lifespan. The only area where they surpassed the Sungod clansmen was with their higher reproduction rate.

After donning their armours, a Moongod clansman could live up to 150 years while a Sungod clansman could live well past 400 years. Without their armours, both the Sungod and the Moongod clansmen could only live up to 100 years. Sometime, they would live for a bit longer if no accidents occurred.

Wutak was special among the Moongod clansmen in that he started to regain the 'Power of Creation' from more than a decade ago. Every other clansmen, including the Sungod clansmen, started to recover their 'Power of Creation' only after humans had exhausted theirs.

This gave Wutak an advantage of more than 10 years where he could concentrate on improving his knowledge about the world of humans, repair his armour and also increase its capabilities to a whole new level.

Wutak had secretly observed humans for over a decade and managed to learn a significant amount of information, knowledge that their race could never understand. Their race could create many wonders, but anything that is meant purely for the sake of destruction was something they could never even think. This was their racial limit even when they had the 'Power of Creation', or more in the sense that their 'Power of Creation' was the culprit that inhibited their destructive tendencies to a large extent.

But, humans were different. They were blessed with an abundance of greed, cunning and killing intent. They could easily create weapons of mass destruction with a flip of their hands. Humans couldn't accomplish the same feats as the Gods even with the 'Power of Creation' but they were unrivalled in the art of war. They had once beaten the Gods into submission for over 10 millennia so much so that they couldn't even have a breath of fresh air and could only hide like rats in the most isolated places on earth.

As someone who managed to reclaim his 'Power of Creation' while the humans still actively used it, Wutak managed to obtain significant gains in the field of pure destruction for the sake of destruction.

He was the sole God that managed to overcome their race's limitations, even if it was only for a short decade. But, he managed to create a solution for their race.

"Wutak, not everyone is like you. We currently don't have the capability to contend with the cunning humans, unless we can rebuild our armours at the very least." The Sungod clansmen stated in a calm tone; killing a creature for the sole purpose of snuffing its life out went against the primary instinct of their race. Wutak was the sole exception who seemed to be able to suppress this instinct to a certain degree.

"This is precisely why I want us to act now. The current humans are scattered and weak. It is easier to either capture or kill them now. After a month when they could fully employ their powers, they may be able to pose a threat to us once again." Wutak retorted.

This was precisely the reason why their race was almost annihilated by the humans in the first place. A race gifted in battle should never be underestimated, even if they were weak. Their final days before they had to go into hiding were clearly recorded in a memory capsule hidden in their sanctuary. It was a tragic scene where humans trampled upon them like ants; they did so in an overbearing manner as if the very notion of killing gods were as easy as stepping upon tender grass.

Wutak was terrified every time he recollected the memory that he had absorbed from the memory capsule after regaining his 'Power of Creation'. Humans were terrifying! This was a conclusion he finally came to after absorbing the memories from many secret memory capsules.

The others underestimated humans too much due to the behaviour humans put up during the peaceful time of the 21st century. Words were the human's only weapon of use while they preached about peace. Only Wutak knew about the existence of the world rending weapons that humans kept under their thumbs to maintain said world peace.

A dormant volcano is still a potential natural disaster even if it doesn't erupt.

"If you want to sit back and wait for our slaughter, feel free to do so. I'll fight for our race's survival. If you want to stop me, do so after you absorb all the memories of our hidden history chamber." Wutak retorted as he walked away, confident that no one had the capability to stop him.

"You….." The Sungod clansmen shouted in anger. He felt insulted to have been mocked by a Moongod clansman. But, the current him with his broken armour couldn't even scratch Wutak. The Sungod clansmen grit his teeth as he angrily stared at the retreating back of Wutak.

There was a rustle among the Moongod clansmen as dozens of figures followed behind Wutak.

"You guys! Get back here!" The group of dozen Moongod clansmen ignored the raging screams of the Sungod clansmen as they followed after Wutak.
