Hazel felt slightly suffocated since she was still trapped in Will's arms and was overloaded with information. She couldn't deny that he had eventually come back to take care of her…and his side of the story made more sense now that he had explained it.
But she was still mad. Sixteen years' worth of hurt had been bottled up and finally released. It wasn't going to be okay in an instant.
"Why didn't you take me with you?" Hazel mumbled wearily into his jacket. "I would have run away with you in a heartbeat. We could have struggled to survive together."
So many misunderstandings could have been avoided if he let her come with him. That last night they had together she had told him she wanted to be with him no matter what. Had he forgotten that so quickly?
