The knife pressed further into her neck when Hazel dared to speak up, causing her to stiffen immediately and snap her mouth shut. It relaxed fractionally when Thornton began laughing again.
"Everything? Impossible. Tell me, little girl, what do you know about your husband? You did mention the word kill…but no one could truly love a killer."
Will was frozen in shock, apparently still melting down. Her words had to get through to him now or it was all over. She mustered up every ounce of courage she had to speak out again despite the evil eyes of the man who killed her parents staring a hole through her.
"You're wrong," Hazel said as firmly as she could, though her voice shook. "I know he's your son. I know he's lied to me about almost everything. I know he used to be the leader of a smuggling ring. And I know he killed whoever told you about me."
