Klaus hurried back to a broken down shack as night began to dwell on the light of the Earth. He locked the door behind him as he heard as a sweet voice, "Klaus, is that you?"
He looked behind a saw a female teen wearing a torn shirt, pants and was barefooted. She had a pale and cute face with long black hair.
"Marie," Klaus said as the female hugged him and said, "I was worried, I thought that the cursed have eaten you or worse you have been turned."
"Sorry if I worried you," Klaus said as he ruffled her hair. Although he didn't love her but he treated her as a brother.
Marie meanwhile only thought, "Dense, what a dense guy." She suddenly remembered something and said, "While you were away, some people came here and were asking you."
"Did they introduce themselves or," Klaus asked and he frowned at the end of the sentence.
Marie shook her head and said, "No, but they said that they came from a group called as the Red Raven."
Klaus had a shocked expression as he said, "Red Raven!" Out of all the organizations it had to be Red Raven. Red Raven is a type of organization who only wants to kill zombies, retrieve survivors, not only that they also accept bounty missions placed on human as long as it's a reasonable price.
"I am also shocked you know," Marie said as she was a bit surprised as well. Red Raven is one of the top ten most powerful organizations if not, then the second most powerful organization.
"Probably only scouts, after all the time for recruitment is near," Klaus guessed as he sat down on a broken chair.
The only problem is that the location. There are only roughly 11 cities of humanity left in this world. Each governed by the organization and the last city. It is called city of peace and is the most fortified city for this symbolizes the neutral agreement of all organizations for all Normal humans to survive.
"Really," Marie said as she realized that they forgot about her gift which was something to do with magnetism. She was a living metal detector and a well gifted person in using her gift.
"We could apply you know," Klaus said as he only knew that look, a look that needed money. They were really poor and are leaving alone in the mountains, apparently they couldn't enter the city of peace because all Etherians are not allowed in the city and they could enter other cities if there is no recruitment. Wearing tattered clothes and barely managing a farm, how could they even survive.
"But it's too risky," Klaus said as he was concerned about her well-being. He treated Marie as a sister or perhaps a little sister considering the fact that he was around 18 this year and she was 16. Ever since the day after the Apocalypse they were inseparable though the female started to develop feelings towards the male, who was oblivious to it.
"But it's worth a shot isn't it," Marie answered as she placed her most cutest face in front of Klaus. Klaus only blushed as he thought, "Shameless!"
Klaus coughed in seriousness and looked away with a blush still on his face. But Marie didn't let him go as her face got closer and closer to him. The final blow was an unexpected kiss by the cheeks. Klaus had a surprised expression while Marie blushed heavily.
"Dummy, you know that I can do it," Marie whispered and wanted him to know that she can do it and won't be a burden to anyone. She had long hated her attitude as a princess and wanted to be more mature. She wanted him to know that she isn't some damsel in distress but rather a companion whom he can lean onto.
Klaus was silent for a minute and answered, "Okay, when is the recruitment?" After that kiss, Klaus began to realize and develop some feelings towards Marie. Although it wasn't much but it was growing little by little.
"Maybe a year or so," Marie happily answered as she was glad that he finally noticed she is ready.
"Okay, within those year we have to get stronger and be better since Red Raven trials will probably get us killed," Klaus then set up a schedule for them to train which mostly is learning more about their gifts, killing zombies and etc.
Marie nodded and went inside a broken down room and slept. She was too exhausted in convincing him to let her join and immediately hunkered down on top of a broken down bed and snored.
Klaus meanwhile was still planning when he heard a buzzing sound on his ears. He wasn't disturbed but the sound grew louder until it became silent inside his head.
"Hi," a familiar voice appeared inside his head.
"Soul," Klaus asked as he was freaked out to have a voice inside his head. He suddenly forgot to say to Marie that he had a promise to keep.
"Yeah, thankfully I was able to speak to you because there are a lot of zombies coming towards this place," Soul warned as he was quite sensitive towards Zombies.
"What," Klaus shouted that woke Marie up, she suddenly went outside the room in panic as she thought that zombies are coming. Seeing Klaus dumbfounded for a second, she calmed down and instead asked, "Why did you scream?"
Klaus wanted to say zombies but he couldn't since he can't explain it. "How long till they arrive," he asked to Soul.
"An hour at most," Soul arrived as it noticed that the zombies are walking slow like predators in the night.
Klaus sighed inwardly as he explained everything to Marie starting from meeting Soul, their promise, and until now. Marie had a shocked and a doubting expression and asked, "Prove it."
Klaus was stunned as he asked Soul, "How will we do this?"
"Simple, close your eyes and imagine me in your stead," Soul guided as it felt a tug and opened its eyes.
Marie was shocked to see ice blue color instead of warm hazelnut eyes. Even the hair changed from dark brown to a darker shade of blue. The sudden warmth was replaced with ice cold feeling.
"Nice to meet you Marie, I am Soul," Klaus, no Soul said with a deep and cool voice.
"You said that you will give him back his body right," Marie said in fear to lose Klaus.
"Yes, but for now I need a dead body and not turned into a zombie please," Soul pleaded to Marie. It needed a body so bad since it wanted to know its gender the moment it took over a dead body.
"I have a dead body at the back, but since the zombies are coming," Marie said and lowered her voice at then end of the sentence.
"Really," Soul had a bright face and immediately waved its right hand as a low rumble was heard and a mini tremor occurred.
"What's happening," Marie asked and looked outside only to see an ice wall surrounding the flat area of the mountain. She was shocked since she can't create a wall of metal.
"What," she shouted in shock and looked at Soul.
"Body, now," Soul said as he gave a pleading look to Marie. Marie only nodded as they can hear scratching sounds on the ice.
They went at the back of the cottage where two shovels were seen. With a flick of Marie the shovels moved and digged at lightning speed.
It revealed to be a young boy around their age. He wore dirty black shirt paired with dirty jeans and was barefooted. He had ordinary looks with short black hair.
"He died a day ago when we arrived here," Marie explained as she remembered by the time that they arrived here the boy was at his death bed. She remembered that the boy had a smile on his face when he saw that he wasn't alone on this world and died a second after.
"Oh," Soul said as it sympathized at the dead teen. It went out of Klaus's body as a blue orb and floated down towards the body.
Klaus was shocked to see that he was outside and an ice wall to protect him. And he was more shocked to see a dead body before him.
Soul entered by the chest and was shocked to see the past of the body. It had no name for he was an orphan, he knew that his parents were already dead and made the matter worse as the teen was sick.
"Don't worry now, I will take good care of this body," Soul said as he felt the complete control of the body. He woke up and saw the starry night and a felt the ground beneath his back.
He stood up as a spire of ice formed beneath him and helped him get out of the hole. He looked at the baffled look of Klaus and Marie as he just smiled and jumped from the spire.
"What," Klaus stuttered as he was shocked that Soul simply managed to find a dead body.
"Klaus your gift has something to do with gravity right," Soul asked as he could see that there were small cracks forming on the ice wall.
Klaus nodded and that sign made Soul wave his hand and the center of the ice spire turned into a long rod.
"I plan to use your gravity to lessen the amount of impact," Soul then told him his plan that they will ride along the launched spire and each layer of the spire will send them ten meters up before it will shatter. He will try to change to direction eastward where a town controlled by Red Raven is located.
"What about me," Marie asked as she was curious on what she was to do.
"In case that Klaus can't handle the burden of lessening the impact, I need you to use the metal on the shovel to create a semi liquid solid metal net attached on the trees to help lessen the impact," Soul explained as they were already on top of the spire.
"Okay let's do it," Marie said while Soul nodded and soon a tremor began as the spire launched into the air. A small pulse of ice was created at the launch that froze the zombies the moment that they broke the ice wall.
5 layers were already shattered and they were a hundred meters on the air. Soul willed the rod to move eastward as all the layers shattered in a burst of energy that caused the rod to go flying around 40 meters per hour.
Marie was having a blast as the air greeted them. Luckily she created a makeshift metal harness on the rod or else they would have been blown away due to the winds.
Klaus was terrified as he controlled the rod to slowly descend along with Soul. They managed to reach a very long distance from the mountain and greeted an expanse of huge trees.
"Ready now, brake," Soul ordered as they both controlled the speed of the rod. Marie was ready with the metal net as she sent it attaching across sturdy trees.
The rod greeted the net but the impact caused the trio to fall down from the rod and unto the grassy ground.
