Chapter 1 - Memories

It was a cool summer night. The fireflies danced in between the grasses and the smell of the ocean drifted in the window. Although the atmosphere was beautiful outside, inside stood a girl around the age of 23. She was holding pill bottles and water, her hands shaking violently. This was it. Her last moment before she ended it. All of it. The suffering, the pain, and the memories. They would be erased from her mind just as she was erased from this world. She paused for a moment to enjoy her last moments. And then she heard it: the waves rolling in and out on the sandy beach.

7 years earlier:

Summer was about to end and Krystal was not looking forward to another year of school. It was the same people, the same atmosphere, the same rutty town. She wanted to get out and explore the world. Oh how she wished she was like the ocean: always changing, strong and powerful yet soft and calming. For a moment she left her thoughts drift before-

"KRYSTALLLLLLLLL. YOUNG LADY GET YOUR BUTT OVER HERE," her manger called.

Oh shoot she was in trouble. Currently, she worked at Nini's Seashore restaurant. And old Nini was the lady yelling at her. Nini was a short, squat lady of 45 with hair starting to gray. When she smiled, (which happened quite rarely), Nini's dimples would show. She had a bit of a temper (as Krystal would complain), but deep down Nini truly cared about the people who worked for her.

"Coming!" Krystal yelled and ran into the back.

It was a small restaurant and everyone knew everyone. There was the same usual customers; that one man who always sat in the corner where the light would come in, that girl who came in with a different boy every Tuesday, and the new couple who had a little kid named Sam who was missing two teeth. The staff was quite small too: Krystal, her best friend, Amenia, Taylor, a quiet but sweet girl, Zac, hardworking student who was surprising good at basketball, and Nini of course.

"Honestly hun, what were you spacing off for? Mr. O'Neil needs his order of a coastal omelette and pinapple bread with a half and half decaf coffee ...yes that's him. Watch where you are goi-," Nini shouted, but Krystal had already crashed into a customer spilling the coffee all over and sending the omelette and bread flying. If she hadn't been so stunned, Krystal would have laughed as she had scored of new record of food flying out the open seating onto the sand where a seagull was now pecking away at Mr. O'Neil's breakfast.

She finally managed to look up at the annoying customer she had bumped into. She lifted her eyes up, admiring the strangers' built body to the most handsome face she had ever seen. Sun-kissed hair, a chiseled jaw, and soft green eyes were staring coolly at her. She blinked and stumbled back. He wasn't a usual customer. Infact she had never seen him before.

The boy grumbled, "Watch where you going. I can't believe you ruined my shirt with coffee stain. Honestly this is some horrible service, let me talk to the crack head who owns this place. What a stupid town. This old broken down shack really needs to get better waiters and-"

"Oh shut up already! That's enough Mr. I'm-a-self-centered-jerk. It was an accident and I know I made a mistake, but you don't EVER disrespect this place or Nini," Krystal snapped. She was pissed off. Sure he was a pretty hot jerk. But he was still a jerk. As much as she complained about Nini to Amenia and Zac, she really couldn't stand this random no-good stranger insulting her. Seriously this guy need to stop acting so high and mighty.

Angrily Krystal shoved the boy out of her way and stomped in the back. She ripped off her ruined clothes and threw on her tank top and shorts.

"I'm leaving earlier today," Krystal yelled over her shoulder.

"But wait Krystal," Amenia called, "Work isn't done until another two hours and I was thinking we could-," but Krystal was already biking back home.

She was just so angry. She honestly didn't know why she snapped. Maybe it was because it was the last day of summer. Maybe it was because she knew she would come back to her dad drunk out of his mind even though it was only 10 o'clock in the morning. Maybe it was because she just couldn't handle people's rudeness and egos.

She sighed and breathed in the ocean air. Krystal had grown up in this town. It was a couple hours away from a city and was in the middle of nowwhere and the sea. It was rare for anyone to come her which was why she had gotten so flustered and surprised that it was someone she didn't recognize. She knew she shouldn't have yelled or gotten upset. Oh well she would apologize to Nini after school tomorrow. Tonight was going to be fun after all, and she didn't want to ruin the bonfire with everyone because she was thinking of some stupid guy. Why was he here anyway?
