Chapter 11 - Formation Of A New Bond

After their long and tedious journey, they finally arrived at KOI Hoi An Resort where all the Kindred doctors resided and held their conference. Till this date, Olivia didn't even tell me what was it about. I guess, she abides the rules of confidentiality, when it comes to work. One of the things Sarah and Olivia share in common is the fact that they are both ambitious, ruthless career-oriented women, determined, dedicated, and incredibly obstinate. When I look back at everything now, I can surmise that Vincent does have a type. Basically he is interested in people who are polar opposites to him. To a certain extent, I don't even blame him for whatever happened because it's all science. Who you fall in love with isn't under your control. That is already a foregone conclusion at this point. The fact that you fall for someone who is nothing like you is also highly probable. The fact that you become distant from someone who is exactly like you, is also equally probable. Unlike forces attract and like forces repel. It's just that it's too hard for anyone to see it right now since the events are fresh and clear in the mind. But as they gradually start to fade away, you start to see the other side of the story.

They checked into the hotel annd their rooms were across each other. Upon their arrival to their assigned chambers, Vincent whirled around and asked, "Your conference is tomorrow, right?"

Olivia turned around and responded, "Yeah. Why?"

Vincent replied with a smile, "Oh good! We're staying for a long time here, I was thinking we could hang out occassionally."

Olivia let out a fake laugh and questioned with her arms folded, "You want to hang out with me? Why? You could have nightstand with any woman from a bar. I'm sure they'd love to have the privilege of sleeping with you."

Vincent threw his hands up in the air and yelled, "See!? This is the problem! Olivia, I have known you ever since high school, and you always have to be right. And you always have the right to have a problem with me. So why don't you ever give me the chance to set things right with you! I don't even understand why you hate me so much! You don't even know me! If your husband can be my best friend, then why are you so hung up!?"

Olivia's eyes widened as she was stunned with his words. At that moment, she realized, that she had a hard time of letting everything go. Her memories are all what she had. She lost almost everyone on her journey of life. Hence, she kept shutting everyone and everything that found its way close to her. She didn't want to go through that pain again. When she told me everything, I had no idea who specifically she was referring to. When I asked her about it, she always shunned the topic at hand by saying that I haven't even seen those people or it doesn't make a difference now.

"You're right. At the end of the day, I don't know you. Do you know me and my problems?" Olivia eventually countered after a long moment of silence in the hallway.

"I want to. I want to be your friend. Samar speaks so highly of you that I want to know it myself. I want to know the person who convinced everyone to accept me and my daughter to be a part of your lives. Is that too much to ask?" Vincent articulated as he toned his voice down.

"No. It's not. But Vincent, what are you trying to get out of this?" Olivia questioned.

"What the hell? Why do you keep thinking that?!" Vincent scolded.

"Suppose if we do become friends and you do get what you need; you're not going to bail on me, are you?" Olivia responded as she tried to get her voice out which was forcing itself to be stuck in the throat because it was being skeptical of trusting someone who hasn't broken her heart personally.

Vincent stepped towards her, gently held her hand into his and said, "Trust me, that is the last thing I want to do."

Olivia squeezed his hand tightly as she attempted to transfer her strength of her sorrows to him from the contact of their skins. She closed her eyes and gasped as tears started to formulate in her eyes after having flashbacks of the past. The flashbacks that I don't even know about. Her teeth clenched in infuriation. She looked up to him with her eyes flashing red, and stuttered, "I need help... I want to let go of everything that has detached from me... I know that you know how that feels... so that's why... I am excepting your extended hand towards forming a new bond between us... can I rely on you to never break it?" Vincent was at a loss of words for a reason he knew alone. His thoughts were wandering all over his mind and he had no notion of what to do with them. However, he nodded his head in approval, and unwillingly let go of her hand. He wished her goodnight and gently closed the door behind him. He leaned against it and slowly dropped down on the floor as he wondered, "Why the hell did she give me that look? Why is my heart pounding? Why do I feel like killing myself? Why do I feel like jumping out of this window right now? I know this is wrong! This whole feeling is wrong! And what's worse is that, even I don't know how to let this feeling go..."
