Chapter 1 - The World and The Start

As a child, you are born with a Divine Gift chosen by god's messengers or demigods. Some are born with God's Gift along with a Divine Gift, these are God's Chosen. Knowing that one is God's Chosen is not easily know unless someone with the Mage's Eye ability sees the bright light that emanates from a Chosen's body, seen only at the Chosen's birth. The Mage's Eye ability is learned when one has achieved or is born as Novice Magician. This why most doctors are Novice rank magicians.

At my birth, my mother, who's an Intermediate Ranked Magician, could see that very light. My family, my mother and father, retired from military service to live peacefully from any civilization. To do so, they built a house in the woods along with a garden. This was to keep anyone from finding us and focus on their future children they planned to have. For five years this was the case, we lived as a normal family, but where we lived was a huge problem they did not foresee.

Over the past five years, I have not figured out, nor awakened, my Divine or God's Gift.

This week is like the start of any other week for us. My father goes to find food and my mother tends to the garden.

As of recently I learned to read a little. So, I started to teach myself to read more anytime I was alone.

My father usually comes home with something small and easy to hunt with traps. Though, this time he came back with a deer.

My father begins to skin it and my mother prepares various herbs and spices that have came from the garden or from what shes found in the forest.

While they prepare dinner, I do the workouts that my father does in the morning. My mother seems to laugh every time I do them. When I'm done dinner is usually done, but since he got a bigger animal it takes a little more time. While my father prepares, my mother plays with me for a while. After my father finishes, my mother leaves me to start cooking the meat and my father takes her place and plays with me instead. My father though seems to think that playing is teaching me how to hold a sword.

As My mother finishes with cooking the deer, me and my father begin prep the table. My mother brings the food, which seems to be just the deer with no side dishes this time. Before we eat, we pray to the demigods that watch over us, then we pray to god who has given us this world to live in.

After prayers, we begin to eat what mother has made. Part way through the meal I bring my fork to get another bite, but I noticed my father seems to be concentrating on something. He looks at mother and asks her, "Do you hear that?" A little puzzled my mother responds, "Wha-" She stops to then look up.

My father jumps over the table grabbing me along the way to shield me and my mother from something. Then a sharp whirring sound along with subtle chirps of fire burning begin to encompass my sense of hearing. A fireball created from magic is what it was and it crashed into the side of our house and the shock wave from impact was powerful enough to propel us all, along with the table and chairs, across the dining room. My father seems to be the only one badly hurt, with me and my mother only having scrapes and bruises.

My mother seems to grasp that we are in danger, so she grabs my hand and begins to run. Another fireball seems to hit around us, the impact of which made my mother stumble and fall to her knees.

She waits a little to then look up at me and tell me, "We need to keep running and get out of the house," she stands and continues, "Hold on to mommy's hand tight and keep running and we'll hide in the forest." I nod in acknowledgment and continue running holding her hand.

The sound of my home burning and my exhaustive breaths is all that I can hear. The flames engross my peripheral vision, then a loud crash take over my sense hearing and diverts my attention behind me. I see mother's hand and remember she told me to keep running, so I look ahead and continue.

I reach the outside of my house and catch my breath. I look behind me once again and I don't see my mother, but I see my burning home and the trees burning around it. I look down to see mother's hand still attached to mine. What my mother said triggers in my head again, I have to keep running and hold mother's hand tight. I tighten my grip of my mother's hand and begin to run to the forest.
