I slowly opened my eyes and rose off the floor with a slight headache.
"*sigh* Passing out over and over again gets old really fast...."
I thought over the conversion I had in my 'dream', though I knew deep down, all of it was real. The frustrating part was that I had to depend on luck to get powers I don't know the first thing about, just to have a CHANCE of survival.
"Well, no point in overthinking it.... I'll do what I can before worrying about what I can't and work with what I got....."
I went back to the cave and started setting up for a fire near the mouth of it. Then I did the basics: clear the area of anything that could ignite and make a ring of rocks to put the fuelwood in. For the fuel, I cut up some of the larger branches into logs, though, even the smallest ones were oversized anyway. Then, I laid two logs parallel to each other, then stacked a row of logs on top of it. Just repeat four times, making sure to make each layer smaller and voila! A fire that won't have to be watched all night since it burns downwards.
"Now just need some tinder and kindling, but I'll worry about that a bit later..." I said as I wiped the sweat off my forehead, "But first, food...."
I picked a random direction, and set off in a straight line, carrying the axe with me, just in case.
While I walked, I started to notice this strange sensation at the back of my mind. It felt like things were moving around me, even though I couldn't hear nor see anything like that. And if I tried to focus on one, I could almost make out a blurry outline of what was moving. In fact, it looked like one was.... right next to me?
I looked to my left and noticed a slight rustling that wasn't there before. I walk up to it slowly, axe ready in case it jumped at me. I pushed the bushes apart to find....
A... really big rat? It didn't seem to notice me at first, but when it did, it let out an ear-piercing shriek, then all of a sudden, it felt like there were hundreds of it around, all of them moving towards me, and fast.
".....Shit."
I turned and ran, and the horde of rats followed closely behind. I was already out of breath from setting up the fire, so I was struggling to barely keep in front of them.
Soon, they were mere inches away from me, speeding up. To make matters worse, one of them scraped at the back off my leg, causing me to tumble to the floor.
Just hen I thought I was going to get trampled by rats, I was pulled into a trench I didn't notice before.
After wiping some dirt out of my eyes and looked up, to see.... a woman?
