Chapter 4 - The World, Unknown

PASSIVE SKILL: AURA OF FEAR: ACTIVE

*************************************************

I woke up in what seemed to be a dirt floor while feeling insanely nauseous.

"Where am I ?"

I opened my eyes to find that was in a forest. Light streamed through the richly green leaves and hit my face. Its warmth gave me the energy I needed. My nausea wore off, and I felt refreshed.

I had no idea where I was, or how I got here, but something at the back of my mind told me I shouldn't think too much about it.

That I should secure the before anything else.

First things first, I needed to get shelter, preferably before dark. I don't have any tools, so I'll be better off trying to find a natural shelter, like a cave.

Considering that I was somewhere unfamiliar, and I could be attacked at any moment, It was a good idea to start exploring instead of just sitting around. As I went further into the forest, I began to notice how bizarre it seemed. The plants were absurdly large and somehow seemed vaguely lifeless. There wasn't a single creature in sight, besides the occasional spider or scorpion, yet the tracks I kept finding said otherwise. At least it was peaceful enough for now.

I soon came upon a cave near a stream. It was empty, and it had no animal tracks near it, so it seemed safe. It was a bit damp, and I would probably have to deal with it for now, but it would have to do.

Since I already need to get materials, next I'll need some tools, so I'll have to make them myself. Luckily, there was plenty of stuff around for me to use.

Since plants and wood weren't an issue, I needed some rocks and luckily, the cave had just what I needed.

I looked around it and found some colourful brown rocks.

Nice! Found some chert!

Wait. Why do I know that?

How come I actually know what to do?

And why am I just in some random forest?

RESTORING.....

INDUCED MANDELA EFFECT: REAPPLIED

Huh.

What was I thinking about again?

Anyway, chert is pretty useful. Really hard, and great for cutting when sharpened I picked up a pointy piece of it and some other rocks.

I started to chip a piece of chert and carefully with another piece of chert. Then I hit it against another rock to sharpen it on one side, making a hand axe. I then made some other things for later but first, time for step two, making proper tools.

I used the hand axe to hack away at some vines that were hanging. They were unusually tough and thick, all the better for some makeshift rope.

I then broke off some pieces of wood from some thin logs that were on the ground to use as handles.

Ok, all set.

I use my hand axe to cut some notches in the wood. I placed the stone axe head I made into the notch and, using the vines I tied it all together.

I repeated this process until I had a small but much-needed toolset consisting of a small chert knife, a stone hammer and a chert axe.

It's not much, but it'll do.

"GRRRRRRROOOOOOOOWWWWLLLL"

It was the probably worst sound I could hear in my current situation.

I was hungry.

Well, I should probably deal with this. Since already have a water source, food was the next thing anyway.

Foraging was my best bet since the stream wasn't big enough for fish to be there, so it should be easier to find some berries or something.

As I looked through the forest floor for anything edible, I constantly felt an unexplainable amount of dread. It was something about the silence that seemed....off.

Somehow, out of something like an instinct, I knew where it was coming from.

Above me.

I quickly leap backwards and as I do, a giant, hairy spider leg crashed down.

"SCRRREEEEEEEEE"

When I looked up, I saw what was comparable to a demon. It's eight blood-red eyes, it's shaggy coat similar to a rabid dog's, it's fangs, dripping with venom and it's obvious bloodlust we're enough to kill a man with fear alone.

But I somehow wasn't afraid. My mind was clear. I know what I had to do. Move!

I dodged another strike from the beast. It was obviously hungry. And pissed.

I needed to do something, and fast. I don't have a chance if I ran away since it could jump from tree to tree instantly. I obviously couldn't fight it. I needed a miracle.

The spider lunged at me. It's already too close. I can't dodge.

I was going to die. I close my eyes one last time.

Gods, if you're going to do something, now the time.
