Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: An Unexpected Guest

Today felt cold and lonely, the sound of a storm outside made it hard for me to sleep, not like that'd help with the chill. Looking over at my alarm clock, I wanted to groan; it was only noon! This rain had been around for a week, every day drained me of any happiness that I managed to make for myself.

"Sarah! Get out of bed!" The shrill sound of my brother's prepubescent yelling perked my ears up. I wondered what the best option was for a moment, ultimately deciding to just pull my covers up over my head and ignore him for as long as possible. The fabric muffled all the sound, though it did make it a bit harder to breathe. Nonetheless, I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep once more.

Sleep didn't last forever, no matter how much I wish it did, and I eventually did have to leave the comfort of my room. Walking around the house as quietly as I could, I made my way into the kitchen. It was dark, the clouds above blocking the sun outside while the lightbulbs inside were switched off. All I wanted was a glass of water, and maybe a cookie or two, then I'd be back to my soft mattress. I felt something with my feet, small and cylindrical; it was probably a pillow from the sofa or something, though it did feel a bit firmer than any of the pillows I remember us having.

Pushing that thought aside, I found my way to the kitchen and saw my brother hunched over the sink, his head slumped down as he ran his hands under the tap. I raised my arm up to flip on the lights, and man, do I regret it! He quickly turned towards me, it wasn't my brother. I wonder what would've happened if I just stayed in my room. Well, I have all the time in the world to dwell on the past, not! It happened quickly, which was a good thing; it meant it didn't hurt as much.

Whoever that man was, he sure had a lot of cleaning up to do, with blood getting everywhere and the smell of rotting corpses eventually getting our neighbors' attention.

Back to the matter at hand, me. I let out a long sigh, looking disappointedly at my dead body lying on the floor as the man began washing his hands again. "That was disappointing!" I muttered, hearing a set of footsteps come up from behind me as the world began to lose color.

"You lasted longer than last time. At least it wasn't slow." A hooded figure walked up to me in this white abyss, scythe in one hand while the other was hidden by his long sleeves. I couldn't see his face, but I could somehow imagine him smiling at this scene.

"That one kinda sucked though. I never got to do anything fun after turning into an adult." I reached down for my hip, feeling my clothes with my fingers as I extended out my other arm. "Who's next?"

"A boy born in the UK. Father is unemployed while the mother works at a school as a lunch lady. You'll have Two older siblings once you start." He replied, handing me a disk that glistened gold. "By the way, if you manage to get a degree in culinary arts..." He began talking, but I quickly silenced him by forcefully pulling the disk and raising it up to my eyes.

"Shh, spoilers! See you later grimmy!" I say before the room goes dark. It was warm, wet, and very cramped. This part always sucked, but I guess it can't be helped. I did, eventually, get out of that place.

"Have the parents decided on a name?" A voice called out as I was being taken care of. I've been in this spot a lot of times before and knew that my fun was about to begin the moment I heard a female voice reply.

"William." The mother named me. I guess I'll see how this run goes.
